The 36th America's Cup presented by Prada will be contested by the winner of the 2017 America's Cup, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron represented by their team, Emirates Team New Zealand, and the winner of the Prada Cup, the challenger selection series which takes place in January-February in 2021.

Never ceases to be exciting - well over a ton of boat and wind pressures supported and balance on a main and rudder foils. On and off-board commentaries add to the realism what these high tech machines are doing.

The excessive noise from racers /commentators doesn't make sense. They're trying to add a little excitement via the conversations between racers. At least try not to commentate while sailors are speaking!
Or mute sailors if commentators have something to say.

The one downside was having 3 running commentaries at once. Made for some confusing audio.
Being a somewhat small sailor, for me, that was awesome.
Trust me, this was still amazing for someone who sails a lot (mainly dinghies)

Maybe take advantage of stereo. Left channel for commentators and right channel for on-boat comms.

Raimando, Why do you think Luna Rossa had a valid penalty call? Ineos was in front and both boats were sailing magnificently at the crossover. This was an epic race.
@@CliveGregory credo che per regola l ultimo incrocio INEOS doveva virare perché non aveva le mura a dritta ed era dentro la zona di sicurezza... Luna rossa è stata penalizzata dalle irregolarità spregiudicate di manovra... Oserei dire aggressive di Britannia.
Comunque è stata una bella regata, certo per britannia essere stata a più volte dietro anche di 250 metri e vincerla e straordinario dobbiamo capire se esistono i miracoli, o gli errori, che per me sono stati commessi da entrambi, ma di diverso tipo...puoi sbagliare e perdere il vantaggio o rischi ai limiti del danno che puoi creare all avversaria ma, al quel punto hai commesso un irregolarità e sei stato antisportivo.

That not sailboat racing. It’s when all boats are racing for the same mark, you’ll are just speed racing .
it's all nice to see, but there are multiple issues:
1. make the audio work, we cannot hear either sufficiently. Choose more wisely or master it.
2. explain more about the sailing itself (VMG, TWD, right hand shift ...)
3. implement some sort of visual aid where the wind is coming from w.r.t. to to the course we are seeing. More so for the "wind shift" you keep talking about.
Otherwise, keep it up!

This is a messy mix with constant coms wind noise and commentary all at same level ?. Had to turn off the sound and simply watch .

55.5 on bear aways this year! Saw some moments of downhill running where speeds were jumping between 48,49,50. The pairing of GB and Ita never dissapoints!

Completely disagree. Some of the commentary coming out of TVNZ is incredibly poor. And 'The Big Race Day' is a cringey embarrassment. Replete with talking heads who can barely read a teleprompter, cringe comedy interviews and the usual shit on TVNZ.
yeah, the TVNZ commentary team is much better, in that they dont have talking hairdos speaking during the race.
And they shut up to hear the teams talking.
For those commenting on the audio, a positive observation if I may? I appreciate this may not apply to many but I am able to listen via headphones (and, likewise, acknowledge this might not be an option for many) and had little problem with this shortened version of the full race coverage (or the other recently released shortened RR race broadcasts). From my perspective, it was fine and allowed an insight into both team’s comms as well as the observations by the commentator’s - all of whom did a terrific job IMO.

I don't know who is responsible for this broadcast, but it's a mess. What's the point of broadcasting the crew's words if you can't hear them for the commentators, and what's the point of a commentary sabotaged by the crew's chitchat? They should take a look at the UK coverage of Formula One. Selected team communications over-ride the commentary. There's no clash. It's called production values . . .
It is a disgrace that the bbc has not featured any of this to its fee paying audience. Hundreds of millions have been following this but not that 1camera Station BBC. Shameful!!!

So the audio mixing is an obvious issue. Another thing that would assist the broadcast would be to follow up with what the penalty was. The non-sailing audience won’t know what a port - starboard is.

It Looks like the crew are wearing wet suits...and who is the Orange " RITA" on the word bRITAnnia on the side of INEOS? Is it a secret code for agent 007? Bond? James Bond?
All of Ben Ainslie's boats since he was a junior racing in Optimists have been called Rita.

Well there you go, at the start of all this I must admit that I was a bit sceptical of our commentators but as the days have gone on I have to say that they have been very good and made me smile. What with the sandbagging, the clock, praise for good moves, painted foils and their positions, Shirley's predictions and that glamorous tack it has been a very good mix and kept my attention going. For me I say well done. All that and Hollywooding.

no!!! too much time spent trying to explain basics and they are missing key events, like a poor tack.
Google is your friend, where you can learn about match racing, and terms like pressure, hip, VMG etc

Amazing these guys don’t cover. The left side of the course seemed faster to me.
Because tacks cost as much as they do the gap to the boat behind shrinks dangerously fast, so there’s kind of a window where tight cover is possible, too tight and there’s nothing to be gained but increased danger, and then too loose and you’re not actually accomplishing much. Also with the high apparent angles it’s still the leading boat that will control the power to the sails of the other boat. No blocking downwind breeze from behind.
Fascinating how this class has evolved in just a couple years.

I think yes but I am not sure maybe they did place it inside the mast🧐
All boats are required by the class rules to use batteries to power the hydrolics below the waterline (foils).
The grinders power all controll systems for the sails

I love the boat audio, I find it facinating to hear the crews talk. It's rare to hear this up close and brings you right into the action with them.

Quite the oposite. I thnk its mixed this way for a reason. If you dont like it, there are plenty other videos and viees from this race available. The video team is absolute top notch. The delivery of this event has no match. The editing, the music, as a package I really do enjoy every second of this. Well, except the post race interviews.
