After finding my first ever gold ring while metal detecting, I do a little detective work to track down the original owner. The ring I found was a big1960 gold class ring from a nearby high school. After a little research, I found that the school keeps the photos of each graduating class and hangs them up in the main hallway. After finding the class of 1960 all I had to do was find the person with the same initials that were on the ring. as luck would have it, there was only one match. I instantly punched his name into Google on my phone and to my surprise, he was the first person to pop up. After contacting this person, and asking him if he had lost a class ring, we set up a meeting so I could return it to him. He and his wife were thrilled to see the ring again after over fifty years of being lost, and I was glad I could be a part of its return.
Happy hunting!

I found a class ring from 1969 on beach and posted on a lost class ring site. Someone from that class contacted me and took the initials and looked up the person who lost the ring. He contacted her and then gave me her information. I contacted her and she told me she had allowed a boy to wear her ring to prove he had a girl friend. She never saw him again, but heard from his family that he had moved out west to a town in California. She gave me the name of the town and it turned out to be the town I live in. I returned ring to her overnight mail.
She came from a poor home and had worked all summer in order to buy that ring. She thought she would never see it again.
it would have been creepy if the title was "500 year old lost ring returned to original owner"
That ring looks like it can summon dragons from the void.
yep it can do that
That is the ugliest thing I have ever seen.
pinz2022 look in the mirror
it looks like it can summon a iland dragon
I hate it how some people are like "You just should of sold it." How would you feel if you lost something important to you, then someone melted it and sold it? Nimrods...
.
I cant believe this, hats off.
***** Thanks so much for watching!
I did this same thing when I found a 1967 Syracuse University ring while metal detecting. The man had prayed for years to find it and had given up hope. His prayers were answered with my metal detector. The gentleman was so happy to see the ring after 40+ years. I enjoyed your vid!
hats off to this guy! most people wouldnt have done this!
***** Thanks!
That ring is just.. *Beautiful*... That video.. *Beautiful*.. That act of kindness... *Beautiful*
I am AWFULLY proud of you!!!!!!! Your mom can be proud of your upbringing - Your morals and values are truly high!!!!!!!!
no its only 50yrs old, the monetary reward would possibly outmatch the rings value as to the owner it might be priceless.
;-)
this guy has mad karma points now
Wow, that is so amazing, love this story and love that you returned the ring - you're an amazing person with a good heart.
I really love stories like these. simple, human, friendly, and without any sense of glory.
well done, and thanks for sharing moments like this.
Patrice CHARPENTIER Thanks Patrice!
how the hell did I end up here? I was searching how to program my garage door opener
I was looking at airsoft stuff xD
Hawker .Tech hahahahahahah i was looking at 3D Printers youtube :)
Good on you for going through the trouble to find the owner and return the ring. I'll bet you made their day. Im sure this chase, search, and reconnection is worth more to you, than any monetary value the ring could have brought. Good to see some human compassion still left.
You are a very kind man to go and return that ring!
What a great story. The feeling you get from ppl when you return a lost treasured item is amazing. I found an old diamond and sapphire ring and the lady who lost it said it was her mothers who passed on recently. She said it had never been off her finger since her mum passed. I saw the advert for the lost ring and rang her. She described it perfectly and when she came to pick it up she was in tears and couldn't thank me enough. She said she thought it was lost forever, she was overwhelmed with happiness
Antipodean33 Thanks for taking the time to comment on the video, it means a lot. Please feel free to share this video.
may the Lord Bless your Soul for doing the best thing and returning it.your a hero in my book.God Bless.
Bless you. You did the right thing. I graduated in 1962 and I would have been overjoyed if it were me. I still have mine.
My friend found hundreds over the years at various beaches. He contacted the high school with the year and initials of every one he found and returned every one that responded to the original owner. He found the owner =s of about half of them. When gold got so high he sold some of the ones that were never claimed and bought a new car
Nice to see young people like that. You made an old man happy, and I thank you.
I thank you for taking the time to post positive comments. Cheers.
Just watched this video from a link posted on a Swedish Metaldetecting group and just loved it. Coins and relics are great enough, but returning memorial things to it´s owner are fantastic. Liked and Sub.
i came from same place. lol
That's incredibly awe inspiring to know that there are still good people like yourself out there in the world. Kudos to you, Sir.
We try to do the right thing and show that metal detecting is also a good thing.
I've only just begun to metal detect with my cheap Tesoro and I get approached by some people who think what I'm doing is stupid, rude, against the law, you name it. I actually look forward to finding things like this so I can get them reunited with the original owner. Haven't come across anything yet but I would think this would be better than finding a big pile of old coins that are worth a lot of money. Just the pure satisfaction of seeing the look on someones face when you return it to them has got to be worth more than any amount of money. In other words, priceless. Good on you, kind stranger. These are the videos that make it worth going out and treasure hunting. Keep up the good work!
good on you for returning it to the guy who owned it :) that's so amazing :) you're looking for gold buddy, but the real gold lies in your heart :) hope you know that :)
It's a great example for people that find things like these and have the possibility of returning it... It feels a lot better to see a long lost valuable item returned to it's owner
Very awesome for you to return it bro !
this is weird i went from your vids and this was suggested for me and you commented lol

Most of us detectorists are actually good people and we enjoy returning special items, when possible. Thanks for the kind comments.
Not a lot of people would be willing to do that good on you
You got a heart of gold, my friend. Great video.
Class ring stories are my favorite detecting stories. Seeing someone find one with no intention of return rank as some of my least favorite. Good job. Thanks for posting.
You're awesome for bringing that back. Can only imagine what he felt like when somone showed up at his door and said "Hey, I have your class ring from 1960"
He did the right thing to return it to the owner .
You're a awesome person for taking the time to do that!
3cardcredit Thanks for watching and taking the time to make a comment. We would love it if you shared this video out to your friends.
Awesome story, cheers!
Stumbled on your video and just wanted to say that was really sweet of you to return the ring to the guy. It's great to know some of the metal detecting guys (and gals) actually do right by people if they can :) Great find by you and your machine!
How crazy. I stumbled on this video by chance...I live there, went to high school there and my kids go to the new high school you went in. Good on ya for returning it...
You may have found a gem, but can I say with a huge smile in my heart, you are a gem. When ppl like you were made, they broke the mold after. That's a compliment by the way. That was very touching. Thank you so much for sharing.
Grey Line Thanks for your comments Grey!

I mention that i do it. boss asks, whats the best thing ya ever found?? Well, this ID bracelet....he knewos the guy!! Town building inspector!! he lost it in 1941.

Great story and incredible act of honesty being it was your first! You can't beat the feeling of returning a lost treasure to it's rightful owner! Way to go man, Thumbs Up for sure!
you did the right thing because most people would of kept it and sold it but good job :)
We don't make judgement on what others would do. We do what our heart tells us. You are probably right though.
What a beautiful story!
it's people like this young man that makes me realize there are still good people. Good people. Thank you buddy. this video made my day.
That was really exciting you found that ring but what made this so much more meaningful was that you returned the ring to the original owner. Very cool.
Good Karma. Kudos to you.
We collect Karma
thats generous, hats off to you bro
Thanks for the extra support Darren. This hobby needs all the good we can find.
Kudos for the thoughtful return of the ring. It's things like this that not only touches the lives of the one's whose property has been returned but it is good PR for the sport of metal detecting!
That was a great thing you did man
You are amazing, you really are. I deeply respect you for doing that. May God bless you for your good deed! :)
That's a beautiful ring, it's also awesome that you managed to return it.
Doing good things for strangers always makes people feel good and happy. Glad you enjoyed it.

Awesome video. A huge thumbs up from me. 154 dislikes on this video? Some people need to get a life. How can anybody p[possibly dislike such a moving story? Keep up the great work guys.
robbiefishing Thanks for watching!
A really good deed... Taking it to the owner! Very unselfish! Hats off to you as well... an inspiration for many people.
I am glad there are people like you around. Most treasure hunters would have either kept the ring for themselves or pawned it for a quick buck. I commend you good sir!
I really want a metal detector in the future! :D
Yes I do to
omg, in Spain it's illegal use metal detectors to find things!
As well solar panels... -_- Sun is not for free!
Can u believe that, guys?
Law is stupid
xDD hahaha Indeed, as well in the rest of the world...
There are no owners on sources or discoveries, simply everyone should use it, in a fair way of course. They are banning one the most important thing we are able to enjoy, as well in the whole world with other things.....
That just simply can't be. They will set free, and we as well :D
Lol
jj ones u mean, "yes i do too"! with double o
Nice of u to give it back but that rink looks very expensive ...
Kudos to you for seeking and returning the ring to the original owner! You're a good man!
Very cool video and the fact you were able to find the owner...ALIVE...is amazing...congratulations and thanks for posting this video.
The old guy was very surprised, and happy to get it back. And I just this summer, found a aluminum plaque, with a name on it. And we found his grandson.
Great story.
So much respect to you! :)
You have done a great job mate. Just feels so nice
I love how you were so nice enough to go and search for the owner and give it back some people would just don't even care and either keep it for show or sell it for money so much much respect to you keep making videos and doing what your doing :)
It's great to see something like this. There are still good people out there.
More of us than most people realize.
Gerry, you are truly an amazing person. Most people would have sold it or something else. Not taken the time to find the original owner. I lost my class ring up at Winter Park in Colorado in 1977. It was my graduation gift from my mother. I have thought about buying a metal detector to try to find it. It means a lot to me.
Rayrod2000 Contact a local metal detecting club. Good Luck.
dude your awesome deffenatley a class act my hats off to ya
Share the love.
Thanks to you that ring will get passed down from generation to generation, with a wonderful story attached to it..priceless!!
Touching story. Made me cry. You are an incredibly good person :)
That was seriously cool to watch! My hat goes off to you for returning it my man! Mikew12006 got it bang on right, that is a class act indeed!!!
But, as always, that's just my opinion! :))
Soup GDWinney Thanks for watching and taking time to comment. Much appreciated!
You are very welcomed Gerry.
I have to say though, It sure was a huge honkin ring. Almost kinda "ugly" in it's own unique way! lol
But its folks like you that make me still have some hope for us all. You are a fella I'd shake hands with any day! Take care and happy hunting!
I found $28 dollars in the parking lot of the place I work at. I thought at first SCORE. Then the next day I asked if anyone was missing any money. A coworker (waitress) said she was missing a $20 $5 and a few singles from yesterday. I gave it to her.
You absolutely rock!! Well done, mate.
Dude you're so honest... Around of applause for you
Great story, but it was too edited. I would have liked to has seen the reaction on the owner face when you showed him his ring from years ago. But as I said, great story. Well done.
wait a minute. they were married in 1959 and he had a class of 1960 ring?
According to the US Bureau of the Census, in 1950's and 1960's the average age to be married was 22.8 for male and 20.3 for females. As of 2010 the average was drastically increased to 28.2 for male and 26.1 for female. Figuring averages that means there are plenty at 18 or 19 years of age, all the way up to 40+. Also, underage marriages are legal with parental consent even today, and in 1950 the number was much higher to be married legally then there are today.
And plus like in the 1910's people would sometimes even get married at 15 sometimes 14
The thrill is not in the metal so much as the adventure. Once in a while, it lets us remember, humbly... what life is supposed to be about. Thank you Sir.
What a great story. I am So amazed, on so many levels. Kudos for taking the time to find this man. I can only imagine his reaction when you first contacted him. What a neat blessing.
Good on ya!!! And they're still married nice kicker!!!
What the heck. I'mm crying tears right now :( when the last part took mah heart away!
OMG, You're great! Every hunter shuold see this and learn...
Two amazing finds. finding the ring and finding the one who lost it so many years ago! You did the right thing.
The hunt is half the fun my friend.
hats off to you, what you did only a few would do in this world
More of us than you think, but as a whole, you are probably correct.
Good work!
Thanks
Metal detecting people are some of the most honest I have encountered.
thats great! Very nice of you to find the person and return it!!
u done the right thing brother
JOB WELL DONE...
Great job on finding and returning a memory to it's rightful owner!
I'm very glad you're a great person and this what you did. Honesty isnt that respected much anymore in these modern days. Keep finding treasures :)
who the hell could dislike this video i dont get people what is not good about this. did they want you to pawn it for dope money like they would have. good work sir keep it up youll get yours for doing stuff like this.
Good on ya.
That had to be the coolest ring I have seen in a long time. I cannot believe you did all that to give it back to the owner. I would have never thought to do something so great. This is one awesome story, I won't forget it. You are a really cool person in my book!
that was amazing after 50 years wow if that happened to me i would cry and hug you the moment u showed it you gave that man back a long lost memory and thats more than the ring is worth :) good job and keep up the good work :)
