    I am just a lowly collector and casual user on a budget, but my D2 Bestech Komodo in green and black, and the Swordfish in orange and black are my favorite shredders of my empty beer and Amazon boxes. Their ergos, action, and looks are just excellent for the money imho.

    I had this knife, it is a real beast actually, I loved it -- I put a shallower edge on it with a coarse and fine diamond stone set. It's definitely not for fine cutting, the stock is so thick it can have a hard time with cardboard or slicing salami, but if you need to punch it through a car door, that tanto point will get it done. --- EDIT: I would buy it again just for the fun factor 😄

    Cool knife and it's in army green which makes it 100% better!

      That's been happening to me on channels I watch regularly. I'm not sure what's going on.

    Can you do a summary Video of your testing history that takes from each common major steel from 8cr14mov up to magna cut one bad knife, one mediocre knife and one super knife in regard to edge retention and list the inches it cuts fine/working edge, hardness (if known) and also the stropping-effectiveness (maybe estimated # of strops before new edge needed). It should just be a representative results Video that does not show the tests, but the test videos can be linked in the Description. Ofcourse we can Watch your whole Video Archive which is very interesting for enthusiasts. But a summary Video is a great way to get an overview in a short time, also for new visitors.

      He does have a spreadsheet that is linked in all of his video comments. I would recommend watching his videos from the beginning of you're into sharpening and knife steel performance. Top notch

      I do plan on a video that covers the data sheets. As far as stropping goes I can see about putting a video together covering what steels strop well. I have done some testing covering how many times some knives did after testing. I covered XHP and S35VN in depth this way. I did 8 or 10 runs, strop and see how much more cutting ability the knife had then repeat.

    Havent been THAT impressed by my civivi, ontario or sog D2. They take a sharp edge easily but fall off a cliff out of nowhere when breaking down boxes.
    Id like to see you test GEC 1095.

    I just finished a carry test on a "D2" knife from a company that is trying to step up their game and improve their reputation. Unfortunately they put a lot of effort into everything but the blade. Butter soft and easily one of the worst in terms of edge retention that I've ever had in hand. Nothing ever changes

      I'll only be doing any Bestech stuff if someone sends one in to test. I don't buy many budget knives, I know I won't end up using them. I have too many I already like to keep buying more.

    Is there a chance that it's actual k110 with 1% Vanadium instead of the .1% Vanadium Cr12 that comes out of China labeled D2?

    • @BenoJ3000
      @BenoJ3000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bestech seems more reliable from most. But jeez who really knows.

    • @Outpost_76
      @Outpost_76  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way the PMI scans went with all the different scans Kurt did then LTK continued doing I doubt it's K110. Could juat be a better mix for that particular run of D2.

    • @tacticalcenter8658
      @tacticalcenter8658 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      D2 after heat treatment doesn't have any vanadium carbide's. Its all chromium carbides. 1% is too little and is used as a tool to bring out other properties in d2 during the heat treatment process.
      So yeah the k110 variant with around 1% vanadium is going to be better than the d2 variations with much lower vanadium. Its not like your going to have vanadium carbides to help with edge retention.
      There's a reason why China d2 performance is far lower than USA custom hest treated d2, and it's based on the heat treat protocol.

  • @RobNC-OG
    @RobNC-OG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yep, sick of seeing D2. Let's move on up to 14C28N and obliterate D2 off these lower end knives. Even 12C27 would be better probably.

  • @BenoJ3000
    @BenoJ3000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Gerald, I have to say, I think I remember a lot of the s35vn you have tested not being much better. 150s? Just don't trust a lot of Chinese makers with either of these steels. Taiwan yes.

    • @Outpost_76
      @Outpost_76  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, the China S35VN I've tested has been not so good. The one WE knife barely broke 100 feet of total cutting. S35VN mostly falls around the 150 foot mark for total cutting. The stand outs have been Demko, CRK and the Medford did better than most.
