- Another model car building and painting video for this week. This is the AMT 1966 Chevrolet Nova Pro Street in 1/25th scale and I cover how I build and paint it.
As always thanks to you all for the support, the community is amazing and I am continuing to work to improve these videos. Plenty more builds on the way :)
Happy model building!
This from 2 years ago so I hope you're still at it. I really appreciate people like you thats into this. Im starting up and excited. This will be a life time hobby for me. Hopefully one day I will motivate someone🙌
I’m still here :) I’m working on a new one now 😎
Thanks for the kind words appreciate it
But I love it I was thinking about getting that kit and the 67 chevelle ss pro street as well
Pro street kits are really fun I always get a kick out of the big rear wheels!
@@ChickpeaHobbies yea love them to I'm building the 68 rt charger into the super stock and it's coming out ok ig
I haven’t seen that kit who makes it?
Sounds tempting 🤔
@@ChickpeaHobbies I think it’s Revell
That car was my first when I was 16 years old
Nice! It’s a great car 😎
Mine was a mustang 🥰
Very clean build! Nice 🤙🏼
Thank you 😊😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Looks great! Did you do any backscribing? ( because those a some of the sharpest lines I've ever seen- they just begging for some panel line paint )
It’s actually funny you say that! I always forget to use panel line to actually fill in the panel lines 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I didn’t cut the lines in deeper, just got a bit lucky I suppose? Maybe they tidied up the molds ?
@@ChickpeaHobbies you can say that again!
Im looking a TH-cam channel where yard sale/ flea market or bought from ebay amt, revell, mpc, monogram model cars kits and are completely torn down and did a master rebuild on these kits! Would anyone have any channels in mind
Hey mate! I am not sure but if I see one I will let you know :)
You meant to say overspray
only thing about this kit is the mold line's on the fenders I sanded mine off looking good buddy
Thanks mate ! Appreciate it!!
My first car my first job I was making $72 a week and love love that car it was blue with a white vinyltop on white interior
Sounds like a sweet ride! I wish they still made cars like that now
Hey there! Just found your channel. I love what you have going on. Nicely done even. (Subbed you too!)
Many thanks for your support. Looking forward to uploading again soon.
How long have you been doing this?
Hi Earl,
I’ve been building model kits on and off for about fifteen years, in and around my other hobbies. Hope that answers your question :)
I built them a lot when I was in my teens, but I stopped when I got married. That has been over 40 years ago.
It is one of those timeless hobbies isn’t it. Who knew so many decades later it would still be so popular in its same format.
SEE WHAT YOU CAN DO WHEN YOU DONT EVEN TRY
😂
AMT needs to update those whack-ass 1985 wheels! Nice build though.
Thanks mate! I appreciate it 😎
That came out nice. The paint job is awesome, even with the little smudge.
Thanks David! I should have checked the cloth but was filming and tired, never model tired 😂
Nova turned out really nice!!!! I keep going back to your Mack Cab Over truck videos because I'm wanting to get that kit out.... 👍🙂😉 Again, great job on the Nova!!!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Do you have the Mack kit? The only bit I found tricky was I had to cut up into the interior base because the intake thing for the turbo wouldn’t let the cab sit down low enough. I had the iPad beside me with pictures building the kit to get a good view of how things were meant to look 😂
Very nice job on this build....I have several of these kits,,,but I have never built it.
It’s been sitting on my shelf but was hard to resist building. Those big wheels 😎
Hey did you have a hard time with this model kit with the rear axle
Hey mate
I can’t specifically remember but did have an issue that led me to adjust the rear wheels to sit the way I did. I wanted the car to sit low and it gave me an excuse to adjust it 😂
Hi, what kind of color spray do you use for this or which one you recommend me ?
Hi there
I used Tamiya Light Metallic Blue TS54 for this one
@@ChickpeaHobbies thank you!
They are cheap amd work great for other pro stock/ street applicaions.
They sure do 😎
Do you have to sand it down before and/ or after applying the primer?
Usually after I prime but if there is an obvious issue I will correct it before I prime. If the primer lays down without revealing any issues there’s no need to sand but usually it reveals things to tidy up
did a great job
Thanks for the kind words John, have a wonderful weekend and happy hobbying!
Same...I enjoy your builds.
It's good to see another Aussie at jt. Great to see you're still here. 👍🏼. 🦘
Thank you mate truely appreciate it !!!!!!
Very nice build. Do you ever paint your chrome trim?
Hey Ken
No I generally just use the chrome as comes in the kit, and touch up any that flakes off with the Molotow chrome pen
I then put Tamiya panel line accent on the bits where I want to add depth
I’ve seen other modellers who soak the chrome plating in liquids that remove it and then they paint it silver but to me the Tamiya panel line accent settles it down enough to look less “toyish”
But then what do I know I am learning too 😂😂😂
I wondered that too. Your reply makes sense. Thanks.
You got a magnificent finish on that body paint job, congrats. You have to fix the oil leak on the gearbox 😊
Thanks my friend, I appreciate it! 😎
This build came out great, I really like the color on the body. Bummer about the glue on the paint but, it happens. Great work. Have a great day. -David
I still have no idea how that happened 😑 thanks David have a great weekend
beautiful build my friend....beautiful 😍
Thank you for your support ! 😁😁😁
What are your thoughts on kitbashing this with the AMT wagon?
I’m really keen to try I have ordered another one because this is one of the more interesting kits I’ve come across, something about the rims and stance appeals to me . Sorry about the delayed reply I got a new phone and couldn’t work out how to set the app up on it 😑
I think off memory I slightly modified the rear shock levels to make it sit slightly lower anyway, but memory isn’t 99 percent sure 🤔
Nice job mate. The whole build process was shown. Very educational.
Thanks so much! I’m really trying to cover the end to end process as best I can. Thanks again.
The one thing i do is put the can in warm water for 5 - 10 min. before i paint my cars.
That’s a great idea I’ve heard it makes the paint lay down smoother ?
@@ChickpeaHobbiesprobably make it flow better?
I never heard that.!! I should try it.
Chevy engine orange for the block. Local car parts store should carry it mate
Thanks mate I will check it out 😎
She looks Great!!! Love the blue!!! I'll be watching
Thank you so much ☺️☺️
Out doors is the best for spray cans !
Nice build and the blue turned out really nice. Love the Pro Street rides.
Many thanks for the kind words!
@@ChickpeaHobbies 👍
Mopar orange
Chevy red
Cat yellow
Great colors
Thank you 🙏 appreciate it
I built this kit, horrible fitment issues, but looked good when done..
Oh no, that is very unlucky !
Awesome job on 66😎
Thank for the kind words it means a lot 🥲
How much time between paint and clear, and between clear coats mate?
Hey mate
Between my mist coats, extremely short time. Like a 1-3 minutes at a guess. Just enough for the paint to gas out a little (so I don’t get runs) eg it sort of evaporates before your eyes.
Between each of these mists I pop the model in a dust proof thing to sit. However take that with a grain of salt as a few on here have said I use too much paint. I just paint the way that suits me, Tamiya paints are pretty thin and I find doing multiple coats works for me so will keep doing it this way
As for clear coat, I let the paint cure for at least 24 hours. Just because it’s touch try doesn’t mean it is fully gassed out and can still be curing and changing shape. Applying clear before the bottom paint layer is fully cured and gassed out can result in that wrinkled paint, as the paint and clear are curing at different rates
The basic theory I work to is that as soon as paint starts drying at all do not apply anything on top till it’s completely dry otherwise you get wrinkles because you’ve got semi dry paint curing under new paint and it gets ugly.
So with Tamiya paints that start drying really quick I would eg never ever wait an hour between paint coats, it’s either the next coat misted on a couple of minutes later, or a very long wait.
So this model would have been like
Prime & wait half a day to a day
Then Mist paint coats with a few minutes between each coat, keeping an eye on it to make sure nothing is going to run
Then a long wait at least 24 hours
Then clear
And if I use multiple clear coat mists, it’s only a couple of min between each mist
Remember the more you handle the model and move it around the more risk of dropping it and getting dust all over it so look into a little spray booth or I’ve done a foam shelter to sit mine in to dry by lining foam with baking paper type stuff to make it relatively dust free and I sit the model in there after spraying outside .
Hope this helps and I am no expert at all so take what I say with a grain of salt 😂
Awesome job!! Super cool looking!!!
Thank you my friend! That means a lot 🥲😎
That came out pretty good. When I built mine I scratch built a bigger cowl to fit the carbs and air cleaners. I love that kit.
It is a cool kit! I haven’t scratch built a cowl yet. Interesting idea 🤔
Awesome build
Thanks ! That truck in your pic looks awesome too!
@@ChickpeaHobbies thank you very much.
Nice video, good job 👍😎👍
Thanks mate : ) appreciate it 😁😁
im taking the tires, wheelie bars and engine and putting it in the 80's el camino
Genius 🤔 who makes the el Camino kit ?
@@ChickpeaHobbies revel if i remeber right.
Just bought this kit last weekend for the winter.
It was fun I am thinking of buying it again and doing it another colour 😎
Nice Build.
Thanks for the support Dennis, means a lot.
Turned out nice.......
Thanks so much 🙏 😊
Nice paint color .
Thanks Barry! Appreciate it
Beautiful and clean job, ✊
Thank you my friend!

Thanks very much Wayne appreciate the support. More to come!
Nice! 😎
Thanks Dave 🙏😎😎😎😎
Id give it a 10/10 😎
Thank you so much!!!!!
Me too!
Bloody looks great mate. Love the video.
Thanks brother! Model on!
Excelente trabajo! Felicitaciones
Thank you my friend !!!!!
For Chevy engines I like to use rustoleum satin paprika because it’s kind of orange
Many thanks for the advice, I’ll see if I can source it locally and give it a try. 😎
CAPO AUTO BUENO VIDEO
💯
Thank you my friend !
That is a Beautiful job , have you ever used nail polish to spray the model ?
Hey Bryan, no I haven’t - interesting idea, is that thinned and through an airbrush?
And thanks for the kind words 🙏
@@ChickpeaHobbies yes it is thinned and ran through an air brush , you can find 1000s of beautiful colors you should give polish a try .
@@ChickpeaHobbies I use Mr.Color Leveling Thinner 400 and cut the nail polish 1:1 - the metallics need more air pressure and may need a bit more thinner also open fluid needle a bit -
Nice build
Thanks brother!
Great job
Thank you !!!!
How many hours on this one mate?
A couple of days all up but depends on if I’m on holidays or not, when I’m working I get less time 😖😖😖 maybe half a week on this one as I was on leave
Model building is my escape from reality in my little hobby space so I don’t worry about the time haha
@@ChickpeaHobbies 👌👌👌

Thanks so much I am still learning as I go, this kit was one of my favourites, love the fat rear tires in the kit
