I remember reading an article by the designer who said they sent Tiger 3 identical clubs and Tiger sent a note back saying he "liked the heavy one". They had to weigh each one to find out that one of the clubs was only a fraction heavier than the other two. I tried the clubs when they first came out and went back to my Callaway "Hawkeye" driver.

Thanks for one more interessting video. I remember from the early 00's, that Tiger was playing a big tournament, where he didn't use his driver
very often. Instead he burned most of the courses with his T60 3-wood, where most of the other players were using their driver. I remember that
this T60 panzerwagon nearly became legendary. I bought a T60 4-wood on sale, used it often from tee, and I loved this wood for many years.
I wish that you can make a little video about that T60 "Tank".

Every Nike club I ever hit in a store was absolutely awful. Then they seemed to finally start getting it right with the Vapor line right as they got out of the market. I only tried the Vapor on the recommendation of a Golfsmith employee after he said the contact felt good and they felt like they created spin. I was impressed and then the following year (I think) they got out.

I had one of these. It was my first driver (other than the wooden one my dad cut down for me).I cleaned out my uncles garage and he gave it to me. I couldn't keep it in the fairway. :) One day when I was 14, the head snapped off at the range and outdrove the ball. The proshop had a Titleist 905 demo that they let me use for the round. Been bombing it down the middle ever since.

It looks just like a Mizuno Pro 300S which was in the region of 300-320cc in headsize. These drivers were part of the early evolution from steel to titanium with high COR (“spring face”) technology. Compared with larger sized, multimaterial composite designs these days, the sweet area is small. That said, for old timers like me, it was massive back in 2000 when compared with persimmon heads!
Beautiful classic clubs, but like an expensive lady, best admired from a distance, but don’t touch! Thanks for a fun trip down memory lane. 😁
(Disclaimer: I am a 48yr old who plays off 7, still using a Mizuno 300S and MP33s which includes a 2-iron. Since my tournament days are well behind me, I haven’t ever felt a need to upgrade my set from 2002. And at my age, I’m content with 280 up the middle!).

Granted I don’t get out to play much nowadays so haven’t bothered changing it but I think I’d keep the 4 wood as it’s so easy to hit off the deck. I’ve always wondered if it was just my driver but does the face sit slightly closed on these when grounded? Compared to every other driver I’ve tried the face sits more closed than any of them.

    • @mattthomas1442
      @mattthomas1442 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

He was actually hitting the driver much further than that. Back then they calculated your driving distance by picking out a couple holes a round where they figured guys would use driver and just average the numbers out. Well Tiger didn't always use driver at those holes cause of his length so his "stinger" or 3 wood would get counted as a "drive" even though it wasn't a driver. If you actually just used his driver it would be over 300. I was just watching the 02 US Open where he used this and when hitting driver he was routinely carrying over 300 with 320+ being the total distance and that was hitting into tight fairways with a more controlled swing.
I bet Tiger was easily swinging 125+ back then.

I easily smashed this one over 300 (sometimes 350 at altitude) as a teenager and student. But mine is 9.5 degree. I’ve hit other drivers, but just never got used to bigger heads.

I had this driver and at the time it was as long as any driver on the market. I averaged about 280 with that. My taylor made 320 was 15 yards less. Of course I Switched away from it 2 years later for the titleist. I believe that Nike came with a fujikawa shaft witch became my 1st choice till the nv shaft. Nice job. When I bought it it was bigger easier to go up than down in size. So good on you Rick

I just loved my Powerbuilt Citation persimmons and I won many long drive contests at 300-340. !!! I didn't change until my faces wore down to a point that they were at 5* and unplayable.......tested many new ones and ended up with GBB 8* and gave me similar distance !!

Rick. I e told you this before. I joined Rishton Golf club. I got my hands on a half set of Titleist, golf clubs and only half a set or least, I in the day of proper Ladies handicapping. From starting as ladies did in the day from 36 *P. I dropped my handicap in that first year, from 36*P down to 17. My dad then said, he’d take me to Golf world at Preston, to trade in my half set, for a full set. As it turned out, the Titelist clubs I’d been using were kinda out of whack and bent??? The man at American Golf ⛳️ in Preston, Lancashire, found it it hard, I’d dropped from 36 *P to 17 with the half set of iffy clubs, I had actually been playing with? The my dad and I went to American Golf in Preston for my first proper full set of irons. They were, Yashuda. Never heard from them?? But eventually dropped to a handicap of 8. While having multiple knee, hip and back surgeries. Never mind two new hips. For my 40th Birthday. All my family chipped in to buy me my very first big boy clubs. I bought them, from a chap, leading in too Booths car park at Windermere. We had to go in the road to see how they swung for me!!!!!!! He was really super impressed with my swing, even more so, when I’d tell him, I hadn’t had lessons. The clubs, were Big Berths. They felt, just so natural and perfectly weighed for my swing. I loved the feeling from the start. My mum, dad and sister payed for these clubs. I recon I’ve used them in total, 5 times?!?!?!? It’s flipping heart 💔 breaking, having them in my front room. I’m 54 in June this year!!!!!!! I really and have to play at least something, looking like Golf??? I’ve missed it sooooo much, it’s actually surprised me??? Fingers Crossed for this year. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, to give my body the Umh, to keep going. I thank you all, from the bottom of my heart 💔 for your help and best wishes. Stay Safe all of you. Take Care and God Bless, one and all. 💔💕❤️👍😇💖🙏

I had one of these right after it came out. It was a hook machine and I have learned the shaft wasn't stiff enough. It wasn't long either. My current driver is the epic sub zero with a rogue max 85gram x flex shaft.

I still hit mine. My high school coach was sponsored by them and got great deals on equipment. When he bought something and didn’t like it, he would just sell it to one of us on his team for what he got it at. I played regularly through HS and sporadically in the military. Now I’m getting back into the game regularly and still hit it decent. I won’t lie though, I’m likely to “upgrade” soon.

Nice video Rick! How about doing one with really old club.
Next step, two, three clubs from the early 90th Start with; Tommy Armour 845s Silver scot Allt the woods and the irons?! The video after that you can take the early 80th. Perhaps Macgregor cg 1800 Jack Nicklaus cavity back iron and the early titanium woods?! (We can go on forever...) Plenty of old gems out there (the irons - most would go right in the anybody's bag, no problem at all) and plenty of woods nobody use anymore (for good reason.) But still interesting to see how far you can hit them.
Why not give it a shot?! I bet you can fins 3-4 set of old irons for the low, the middle and the high handicapper.
Give people a chance to learn the best bargain they can find according to you.

After a year and a half of playing my Grandpa's crappy hand me downs, my parents bought me that driver for Christmas in 97. They also got me a set of Tommy armour irons as well. Anyway that was my first non persimmon driver and I thought it was awesome. Held onto it all throughout high school and my first two years of University.

I actually had this Driver in a 9 degree with a rifle 6.5 steel shaft in it! I did loose about 10-20 yards distance on it, but man the control I had with it was just brilliant, but as we do I fancied a chance ended up with a burner tour driver got mad distance with no control regretted getting rid of the Nike so much! Loved that driver!!

You should do 9 holes with Tiger's '97 Masters irons. He had a mixed set of Mizuno MP-14s in the shorter irons, and MP-29s in the longer ones. I am not sure where the break was. That would be a great vid.

I think I saw in your Q&A session with the Bad Golfers that you said you have 100s!
How about showing us your collection at some point?
The highlights, the favourites, the ones that promided so much but just never really performed - and the stuff you'd completely forgotten you had!!

I used to go to Golf Galaxy or the PGA Superstore or something and find the oldest looking driver they had and see if I could hit it 300 yards. Best I've done was with an old Titleist 983k which was a year after this Nike driver that I hit just over 300. Fun to see the difference over time. Distance hasn't increased a tremendous amount due to clubs, but the forgiveness is night and day.
