Picture this: You’re wandering through a post apocalyptic city, hunting rifle slung on your back. Your flashlight shines on a sign titled “Mall.” You step inside and search around for the breaker. You find it and turn the switch. The power generator whirs to life and this song comes on along with the lights. You stop for a minute and sit down and just relax.
and a there is some sort bird nested on top of the fake trees and a small gust of wind blows through a broken window in the ceiling and there is plant life everywhere and small chickens pecking at the ground and a cow eating grass at an old shoe store or something.
Imagine hiding in an abandoned shopping mall during the zombie apocalypse. You're hiding behind some racks, hoping they don't see you and this song starts to play while they're limping around the place. The atmosphere is eerie...
That is a good idea! What I imagined is you got separated from your kidnapper and you are hiding from the serial killer inside those clothing racks during closing hours.
You're in your Post Apocalyptic hometown. You are hiking along an abandoned freeway, stepping on rusted parts of abandoned parts, broken glass, and bullet casings. You loot cars for food, gas, meds, and possibly a weapon. But no; you only find remains of those who haven't survived the end. It's getting around dusk. The sky is dark, and and you start heading Screams paired with low rumbles of thunder; you see an abandoned mall. You go through the parking lot desperately looking for cloth to plug a cut you got while trying to run from those... those... things... You step through the broken front glass door to be greeted with the smell of rotting corpse, and you find benches to barricade the broken door you came through before the dead can get to you. Youre limited to what you can carry however; you have a cut on your right pectoral muscle. You find and search the food court, only to find used napkins and an overturned baby carriage and a stuffed monkey with a heart on its chest, stained from the baby slobber from when it has seen better days. A trail of blood leading from the carriage to a dark corner. You keep moving, not wanting to imagine whats left... You go to the movie theater in the mall you and your friends have gone to before all of this happened. You take paper towels and hold them against your open wound, and you look around at what's left of the mall you loved. Looking at the movies, you click on a flashlight and start heading towards it; just as you get past the admittance booth, you hear a slight groan in the corridor. There you find a can of food and a damp sticky note that reads; "Tell momma I tried, and I'm sorry for everything I've done wrong, her little bear" You don't know what to think, so you keep moving along the strip of empty stores, shelves, and mannequins scattered throughout the two floors of stores and etc. You sit down and on a corner and ponder your life: Where would I be if this never happened? Am I the only one left? Is it like this all around the world? Is this my life now?
This is metro north mall. Its in Kansas City, MO. It was just completely torn down in the last year. Its now a vast empty space of old parking lot and flat rubble. I think they are redoing the mall as an outdoor plaza type of thing but I will never forget those balloons in the center of my mall.
POV: reaching an old abandoned mall you decide to scope it out for supplies. When walking down the walkways seeing all the stores either ransacked or graffitied, occasionally tripping by over lose debris. You find the breaker room. Flicking a few switches a buzz rings through the sound system and this starts to play. You sit back at an old cafe a few stores away and enjoy a moment of peace you haven’t had in years.
There is something so grounding about this. I grew up listening to The Beach Boys and this puts a whole different twist on the song, it’s very calming I love it
I don’t know why but since I was little (15 now) I’ve been in love with empty, flat spaces. To me they just seem very calming. Peaceful in a way that I hope others understand. I’ve always wanted to just lie down on the roof of some large building and just absorb the sounds. My happy place is an empty parking lot I made in my head where I can rest and reflect.
Other oldies songs I wanna hear in an abandoned mall: Doris Troy-Just One Look The Champs-Tequila Four Tops-Sugar Pie Honey Bunch (Can't Help Myself) The Doors-Light My Fire Procol Harum-A Whiter Shade of Pale The Animals-House of the Rising Sun The Who-Pinball Wizard ? and the Mysterians-96 Tears Roy Orbison-Oh Pretty Woman The Monkees-Daydream Believer The Tornadoes-Telstar Smokey Robinson & The Miracle-Tears of a Clown Three Dog Night-Mama Told Me Not to Come Creedence Clearwater Revival-Down on the Corner
Hi Cecil. Jia Tolentino's article in the New Yorker brought me here. I love this song. You have rendered it even more heartbreaking than it already is. Those sleigh bells...
It reminds me of the scene in "12 Monkeys" where Bruce Willis's time traveler character hears Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill" on the car radio and tearfully smiles and joyfully says: "I love the music of the 20th century!"
The question is . . . does this still play when nobody is listening? Kind of like a tree falling in the forest if no one is around - does it make a sound?
Do you have any Rolling Acres pics? I'd like to see one as the backdrop for the James Ingram song "I Believe in Those Love Songs" that played in the food court the last day that mall was open...???

This has some Fallout 4 trailer vibes :P
Reminds me of the Blade Runner 2049 scene when K finds Deckard's hideout out in the ruins of LA.

This makes me so sad, it's awful.
Yet I keep watching and listening...
What the hell, your channel is genius
Haven't seen it in the videos list but imagine by John Lennon in an empty mall?
It reminds me of the scene in "12 Monkeys" where Bruce Willis's time traveler character hears Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill" on the car radio and tearfully smiles and joyfully says: "I love the music of the 20th century!"
The song that will play when the world ends
This should be the opening shot to an indie post-apocalyptic romance! Just a still of the mall, with the song playing.

There is beauty in decay.
And beauty *in* decay.
It is Wabi-Sabi writ large.
Fantastic project. Just beautiful.
Kudos to you, sir.
You should look up Dan Bell.
He makes videos touring old malls that have become forgotten and neglected.
Cecil and Dan should do collabs.
Dan Bell has nerves of steel lol great channel

Love it! Can you make a video with wicked game by Chris Isaak?🌹
Laura Michelle yes!!i imagine being stuck in a mall and slow dancing with the love of your life
Laura Michelle such a great song
That would be great because I always remember that music video playing in the clothing section of Sears at my mall when I was a kid.
Why did I immediately think of Wall-E...
your videos make me want to run down an empty mall all alone while blasting this
I’m compiling a list of this kind of stuff
the end of the movie
I can't be the only one who really wants to know how these are made

ALTP13 With my bare hands.
all with the flick of a reverb
Ghost town by the specials please
Nice. :D
this reminds me of starcourt mall from stranger things
Looks like after a apokalypse...
Do you go to these places and use the mall sound systems or a boombox or do you just slap a reverb filter on the song and say it's in the location.
cody thompson He adds reverb to the songs
A location is put in the title to make people feel the atmosphere.
Is it possible to do a The Beatles - With a Little Help From my Friends?
Toto Africa and Avenged Sevenfolds cover of this song brought me here.
He should do house of the rising sun
Is that a picture of Sunrise Mall?
Your Wildest Dreams by The Moody Blues pls

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
I kindly request for Dinosaur Sex by Emmy the Great in a grocery store aisle *please

One Wear Reviews how about shut up and enjoy the music
Fallout vibes
"Wouldn't it Be Nice" if this was REALLY playing. After all, it's just a still with the song treated with EQ and reverb.
How will songs be played in abandoned malls?
Cause no one owns it anymore
Jesus I didn’t think my fart was that bad
"Clickers...stay low."
Can you say "Seph Lawless"? This reminds me of the eerie pics he takes of abandoned malls like this...
Do you have any Rolling Acres pics? I'd like to see one as the backdrop for the James Ingram song "I Believe in Those Love Songs" that played in the food court the last day that mall was open...???
