James sounds OK when his voice is somewhere below E4. Once he goes up he immediately strains his voice and it becomes painful to listen to. So the question is, why play songs like metropolis in original key without any back vocalist or someone who could pull these high notes off instead of James? He's clearly not capable of doing it anymore. Why torture his voice like this is beyond me.
It’s crazy to say “hey let’s start the show with Metropolis, Strange Deja Vu, and The Mirror in their original keys” - and then I guess just pat James on that back, send him on stage, and wish him luck? Cmon man. His voice will be completely shot in a month if they continue with this same set list in the original tunings.

They hired an attractive blond woman to go on tour with them, so whenever Geoff started to struggle singing those really high notes, she'd step in and sang them for him! That's also a way of doing it, but those blokes from DT got spoiled by US, their fans, telling them they're GODS and thats probably why they refuse to do such a thing, because it's bad for their egos. Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the biggest DT fans in the world, but LaBrie... yes, he's done indeed. 😢 Really nice man, though.

He can sing everything from falling into infinity onwards and only the stuff from I&W and Awake are shocking- and they really are shocking, it is an embarrassment to him making him sing at a range he can’t anymore… He is my favourite singer, so it hurts to see him being put through singing songs that he simply can’t sing anymore, even though he is still an excellent singer at all the normal range stuff!

This problem is easy to solve by either down-tuning, or James making adjustments and singing an octave lower, they just refuse to. James is never being replaced. This is the last formation of this band.

I feel awful for James. The fact they’re not tuning down is doing a disservice to him and to the fans. Almost every band does it to protect their singer and they’re only making him look foolish.
Folks pointing at studio recordings of 30 years back and arguing that if it ain't that quality a musician should just stop, seemingly have no sense that a concert like Dream Theater last night is so much more. It's part of your own private history, part of their private history, and as far as I could tell ... this is how it felt for most in the audience. A night with Dream Theater ... "fucking awesome" to quote JLB. He is part of the family. in 2022 I also saw Genesis here in London, it was a concert I should have seen in 2020 with my brother who was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to see his favourite band one more time, then the pandemic came and the concert was deferred to a later date, my brother passed away in 2021, and in March 2022 we finally got to see Genesis. The reason why I am comparing this ... Phil Collins sang, bound to a wheelchair, and yes it wasn't the 'old Phil' except at moments. But it was the 'real Phil' ... and that's who I loved to see and hear sing. I loved seeing them last night (even though I think the O2's acoustics aren't great at all). It was wonderful seeing them together, and we know that recent years have been a struggle for JLB. I saw then in 2022 last before this concert, and overall I though this was much better in every dimension. And if you get "Octavarium", big parts of "Scenes from a Memory", "Vacant", "Hollow Years" and some new stuff with "Night Terror" ... hell-yea. I'd go again tomorrow in Berlin if I could.
It's not just James sounding awful, it's that there is no universe where he last the full tour of 3 hour performances. his voice will completely give out. They need to figure something out fast.
I heard he sounded better later in the show, hopefully he was just rusty, also might sound better live and in person, but my worries for his voice giving out stand.

For whatever reason, Strange Deja Vu is one of the few songs James can still sing relatively well (I said relatively, people. Not saying it's perfect). Most other songs are...pretty rough.
I hope this boys find a solution this night after the show...Auto-Tune , samplers, look for a singer at the last minute even if they have to cancel some dates ...because of course if they continue like this it will be the end of their careers, it's absolutely ridiculous, it looks like one of those videos taken from Facebook to laugh, it's that you can't sing worse, not even on purpose.
So it's impossible for them to end up on this tour, this doesn't stand up anywhere, it's crazy to pay sixty euros for a ticket and have to listen to this.

It tells DT and the booking agents “it doesn’t matter, people will still show up” so…..I don’t know what James hears, or what he’s thinking. The band is like “f*ck it, we are too far into are career to bother making that change”…..but to go out like this is sad. At this point run tracks. Every other band seems to be doing it. It’s not enjoyable listening to him croak out a song he sang on 30 years ago that he can’t do anymore. The problem is James is arrogant; he’s the “voice of DT”, and is surrounded by 4 virtuosos who can still do what they do, and he can’t. But he’s elevated by his band mates who can’t tell him the truth. The stuff that was causing a rift between him and Portnoy back during Six Degrees, and here we are 23 years later and it’s worse then ever.
