Honda XR650L Vlog Ep 63 | Spring Ride & Riding Tips

  • First decent ride checking snow conditions and lots of riding tips and lessons!
The Honda XR650L is the picture of versatility. Off-road, it dominates the trail with the right combination of power, suspension and durability. And when you’re on the road, its light overall weight, electric starter and excellent fuel efficiency make it great for commuting or even long trips.
While the graphics will catch the eye, what really sets the XR650L apart is its ultra-tough 644cc overhead cam engine that has torque and power to spare. And because it’s air-cooled, it’s easy to maintain. Plus, the engine’s gear-driven counter balancer reduces tiring vibrations, so you can ride comfortably for hours on end.
Monster trail or monster commute, the XR650L has got you covered.

Good advice on the log crossing. I tried to get my front wheel up but didn’t get light enough and busted myself up just yesterday. One of those “yup I’m done for today “ moments. Helmet saved my brain for sure. Rocky Mountains are surprisingly rocky😂

Amazing riding skills. I had a Honda XR650L and it is as tall as a horse and not easy to handle for me and i am 6.2 feet 115 kg . I used it as a adventure bike but you ride it as if it is a light 250 or 400 cc bike. Thanks for sharing.

I can hear a pumper carb whistling on your vids. Im sure it gives u extra snap for those low effort wheelies but I like the CV carb for being so smooth with these big motors. Airbox, pipe, jetted and 14t sprocket these motors get pretty powerful yet still smooth, love it.

I have a bunch of RC"s also, helps me get in my "mechanic fix' when it's too cold/ crappy to work outside on my "real" rigs :) Ton's of fun for those who haven't tried especially the "crawler" type.. like full size 4 wheeling, except when you get stuck/ roll over you just pick it up and put it back on the trail/ wheels.. no damage, injuries etc..

Thank you very much for these excellent vids! I'm sure I've learned countless things from you over the times and brought them into my riding practices. In this one I found out about the braps while coming in for a landing, something I wouldn't have thought about coming in from mountain biking. So thank you, and I look forward to the vids in the coming season! 🤙🏼

I love watching people tear it up on these type of bikes. People try to buy their way into being fast. It can't be done. If your a good rider, for the most part the bike doesn't matter. Unless of course your near a pro level.

I greatly appreciate your video back in 2006 I used to have a 91 XR 650 L was my second motorcycle ever first bike was a 81 Suzuki GS 550 TL never rode a dirtbike in my entire life, and to jump on an XR 650 L was a lot absolutely phenomenal and fun bike but I wish I would’ve learned more about riding off-road. I always regretted when I was a kid not having a dirtbike and learning to ride the trails.

The capability of the XR and a nice reminder of why they still exist. great video of technical riding. I once owned an XR350L and am considering returning to the XR or DR and maybe the new KLR. Love the Orange on the KLR but it's way heavier than the other two.

I wish I had kept my Osa I don't even remember when I sold it or where I sold it I should have just kept it it was probably a 1970 model ossaa 250 I think trials a real mild-mannered bike I remember driving it across the top of the Crusty snow in Wisconsin it was very cold and we had a warm spell and then it froze and so I was able to drive on top of a couple feet of snow and it got me back where I spotted a couple of big Timberwolves jump over a fence! boy they were something to see in that extreme cold weather long fur in the Wisconsin at a time when they weren't saying that were NOT any wolves in Wisconsin. I broke my back on a 1972 bUll Taco 360 El Bandido also was a beautiful bike would be worth a lot now. That was in 95. my KLR was too tall my feet wouldn't touch the ground it had everything on it including the aluminum pan years it had a big windshield in crash bars handguards low-profile expensive seat lowering link in the bike was still too high I'm 5 ft 9 in I want to touch the ground when I'm loaded up with heavy Adventure supplies or a beautiful lady in the back!!!. if you can't touch the ground you're going to get her hurt especially when you like to drive slow on the trail and stopped on the edge of the cliff without falling over the edge of the cliff with your bike supplies and a lady! that's ridiculous when your feet don't touch the ground you can't catch yourself from falling over when you stop or get on rough terrain. I prefer to go slow bigger sprocket ! I want Firstgear to crawl because I go where the Trail Ends,.WARE IS THIS PLACE?

Thanks for the great content, I have been practicing many of the things you have mentioned in your videos and have taken opportunities to ride ice, and snow and some sketchy terrain but I am really hoping to work on my wheelie and pivot turn game this year. I was doing pretty good till I had a wheelie get out of hand that resulted in dropping my bike... no big deal I thought till I realized my bush bars didn't do the job of protecting my brake lever it didn't break but the brake master cylinder was hooped and it cost me 500 to fix. It is so weird, I am not so much afraid to hurt myself but rather my bike. Until I finish school and land a decent job it is just too difficult to pay for such incidences, my riding has definitely been affected by this fear. And the fear of explaining to my wife why I need to fix the bike lol.

@@HeddleTown Thank you for the videolink, it makes a bit of sense. The challenge for me is riding long roads like gravel, nice and easy. Suddenly the road turns to mud and 4x4 or tractors have made deep mile long ruts about a foot deep. The middle of the road is slippery grass with bumps. So my only option is to paddle all the way and that is very hard.
I ride a xr650l with some luggage and novice skills.

I wished I knew you personally. You have knowledge I wished I had 1/8 of your knowledge. A little about myself 1st I'm 6ft and 300pds so this class of bike I'm hit without doing a total suspension rebuild on smaller bikes so this fat not really fat well its on the belly area rest of me is pretty tight so to say. I had a DRZ for a very short time but some gasket inside the motor lower right side gave out . I was right down the street so I turned around not even 300 yards and toasted the motor . It screwed up the transmission but it would cost half of the price of a new DRZ to correct. I believe the 650L would be easier to handle plus I have a strong Harley background so weight aint to much of a problem I think 🤔. Plus I'm not too aggressive in dirt yet . It was hard to let the bike dance underneath me . But I heard riding these type of bikes are good or help me to lose a little weight ok ok nay sayers 30 to 40 pds at least. Is there any option besides these bigger bikes with a good price point ?

    • @HeddleTown
      @HeddleTown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the compliments! I believe Honda makes some of the best most reliable bikes ever made including the 650L. You would be hard pressed to find a better price point for a proven reliable bike than the 650L. Also once you spend some money on the bike it becomes even better!

The yzf 450 is more of a motocross bike but it will work I tell people to avoid the rekluse it's better to learn proper throttle clutch control. It's also more enjoyable riding in the mountains on an actual Enduro bike because their setup with heavier flywheels and harder to stall. Just some stuff to consider. 😀

I thought it would ov been ok as people were saying the wr is just a yz with lights an stuff an the yz was more in my budget so trying to make it enduroable as possible

@@gareth5494 Yes you can absolutely make the YZF450 work but the WR will be different with the ignition timing and the port timing heavy flywheel to prevent stalling there is a few differences for sure. The YZF will work its just a little harder to ride it in the woods!
