- This is how you can make easy handmade plates without a pottery wheel. You don’t need a pottery wheel to make plates, instead, you can use a simple tool called a mushroom anvil to make beautifully shaped plates from pottery clay.

So nice. Thank you for sharing.
So many great tips, thank you!
I haven't tried plates yet and this gives me a lot of ideas! Thanks so much for sharing.
Inspiring as always!
Love your posts .... post more!
Yhhank you!
Thanks so much for this tutorial! What size is the anvil used in the video?
Watching your videos inspired me to do a handbuilding class, so thank you! You have another video about making plates, I wondered if you prefer the anvil or the hump mould method and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each method. You said the anvil helps retain texture, does the hump method not?
I think they both work well, and you can keep the texture on both. I just really like the rounded shape of this one 🙂
Would love to see glazing technique on this. I would be inclined to add a foot to the plate, but maybe I’m wrong?
Ha..who knew...interesting...thanks
Does the wire rack leave deep impressions in the clay when you add the rice bag?
Love your videos. Thank you.
If the clay is firm enough to lift onto the rack, it shouldn't leave an impression in the clay 🙂
Thank you
What is the tablecloth type? The ones that have backing with the soft fuzzy feeling?
I know, it's tricky to find the ones that aren't fuzzy on the back. I got these from Amazon, but it took a bit of searching.
👏👏👏🙏❤
I definitely use much softer foam from old bed mattresses. Theres no way I can push the template and clay into foam like that. There's no give. 😔
Forgive my ignorance but, it doesnt need to go to the oven after after all?
Hi there, yes it does need to be fired in a kiln afterwards if you are using pottery clay
Hmmm I went to purchase the anvil and other items but the discount was only .60 cents 🥴
That's weird, it should be 10%. Did you reach out to Axel on the contact form?
Thanks for replying. No I haven’t as of yet.
