    Hi Natalie! I’m so glad I found you- thank you for the kind and informative content you create. Could I please request a video about considerations for women with mental health conditions when undergoing fertility treatment? For example, what to expect from hormone shots? Should I plan to take time off? What is likely in terms of anxiety and depression management? That’s one of my biggest concerns in considering IVF.

    I know this is old, but ironically the FET meds were way worse for me than the stim meds. BCPs turned me into an angry fire breathing dragon and estrace gave me headaches and crippling panic level anxiety. And then the progesterone plays all the mind games with you giving you all the pregnancy symptoms during the tww. I actually felt a lot better at 10 weeks when I could stop them.

    Can you please make a video about breastfeeding and fertility treatment? How come when you breastfeed you can easily get pregnant, but when you’re in fertility treatment you’re told that breastfeeding makes it harder to get pregnant. I understand some medicine can be harmful for the child, but if you “only” need to get a fertilized egg to be injected medicine is not at problem during breastfeeding... why can’t you get fertility treatment just because you’re breastfeeding if your cycle is back on track and regular?

    My main questions are "What does it cost?" and "What about age limits?" My fertility doc says she doesn't think it's ethical for them to offer me IVF with my own eggs because I'm 48. I know there are some clinics that do offer such help to older women. My hormones are ideal--am hoping I can improve my egg integrity through antioxidants, general healthcare, and fertility acupuncture. I understand there are two clinics nationwide that offer IVF to older women, so I guess one question would be how difficult it would be to work with them (how many times I'd have to be there in person).

    • @spookygreg
      @spookygreg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My mom had me at 49, but she had already stopped menstruating so she used an egg donor.
      If you need to use an egg donor to get pregnant, it’s not the end of the world. I have plenty of friends who are Petri dish babies. There are even cute children’s books to explain it to the babies when they’re older and have questions.

    • @spookygreg
      @spookygreg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The egg donor isn’t even the same race as my mom. Despite our genetic differences, my mom still carried my twin and me to full term (and we were BIG babies)! Egg donors are magical and getting help from an egg donor doesn’t make you any less than a mom. Even though I don’t look like my mom, I love her and she’s an amazing parent. She put so much effort and hope into wanting my twin and me and it shows!

      @@spookygreg Nice to hear, and yet, I still want my own genetic babies, if possible, partly because I have some great genes, and also because I would like to have that blood link. It's way too soon to say it's not possible, in my opinion.

      @@katherineakbar9011 at 48 it’s a sizeable risk and monetary gamble to have a biological child. Even with “perfect” hormones. Improving egg quality is truly hard to do or measure. You can of course try just have a very realistic mindset that the chances are low.

    Hi Natalie!
    I'm VERY happy that I came across your channel and wished I lived locally so you could be my MD.
    My husband and I decided we're going to go the IVF route and we're just waiting for a call back to get the process going. I have so many questions and concerns going into it, but found your channel and felt it to be calming and full of good info. Thank you.
    The question that runs across my mind though and I don't see it being discussed is why IVF is so much? Why don't a lot of insurance companies don't cover fertility benefits?
    It breaks my heart with the costs of fertility treatment and even adoption. Surrogacy I can understand.

      Great suggestion! I just did an IVF video today, and overall I am a fan of HGH in patients suspected to have a poorer response - low reserve or who are older. Data not correlated with live birth rates yet, but we do see na increase in egg/embryos and that is step one.

    Hi Natalie! I have a question, from the eggs that "come out of the volt", the one that is chosen to ovulate.. how is it chosen? Is it random? Is the best quality one? I did not know that it every cycle there are other eggs that die :( Thanks so much for this video and your channel!

  • @SmultronsyltNatha
    @SmultronsyltNatha 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I understood you correctly, extracting eggs for IVF would not reduce the total amount of eggs left more than a normal cycle would. I’ve been thinking about donating eggs for many years, but in my country (Sweden) egg donors are advised to wait until they have had all the children they want to have before donating. I assumed that was because egg extraction would reduce the chances of getting pregnant in the future, by reducing the total amount of eggs.

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD
      @NatalieCrawfordMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      SmultronsyltNatha you are right - it does not decrease your egg count or your fertility!

    I’m very new into IVF research and just to understand the process, when you say one cycle of IVF, that means one month? Or if that’s incorrect how long one cycle of IVF really is (average)? I ask because I’m 38 and just started TTC (two months ago) and I’m terrified just to think how long this process will be. Specially that my reserve level is 0.2. Do you have any advice for a person with POI/POF in the early thirties? I still have 4-6 follicles total when they check, but all doctors tell me that there is no point in even trying IVF with my own eggs. I understand that there is a lot of loss on the way, but I would also hope that my not-so-old age would give me a bit better odds... If it matters, there is no history of any fertility issues in the family and no other health issues...

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD
      @NatalieCrawfordMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Age is a huge factor! We do IVF in young women with DOR and still get good results, if you have 4-6 follicles, you may need another cycle - but even in POI I would talk to your doctor (or get a second opinion!)
