Thank you Dan for doing a video on this. I dont know if you remember but I had messaged you like a month ago on Instagram on this. I'm doing what you said and it has helped tremendously. Thank you again.
I find I get beard pimples around the areas where I have gaps in hair density, like around the chin area for me. It was mostly using too much beard balm/not washing it properly. Great vid, Dan. Always enjoy your stuff
Hey do you still have the problem?. I’m 16 I’m always growing like these bumps that I’m trying to figure out if there cysts or ingrown hairs not to sure but they are always growing on the same spots and when I look around the spot I notice there’s no beard hair growing but other sides yes I also use trimmer.
I've always had the problem of using too much product and I'm okay with that. Every once in awhile I will get clogged pores and, I know how to clear it up in a few days. I will deep clean with a pine tar soap, exfoliate like I always do, and stay away from certain carrier oils and butters. I pay attention to the comedogenic rating and I won't use anything that is a 3 to 5. Stuff like coconut oil, wheat germ oil, cocoa butter, murula butter and avocado oil are a few of the popular ones.
Thankfully I’ve only gotten 1 or 2 pimples in my beard over the last couple years. I would have probably had more had I not learned so much from channels like yours!
I’ve had them when I started growing my beard and was using waaaaay too much beard oil. Exfoliating has been huge too for me since you came out with that video
Thanks so much Dan. Growing a Shadow-type beard for the first time in my life (50 ++) and I think my attempt at regulating the color with a shampoo is causing the breakout. I’ll follow your advice and continue watching your channel
I used to have a major problem with this. I watched a video last year on this topic, can't remember now who posted it possibility you, and it really helped me.
Great video! A topic that I’m sure a lot of people guys, including me, were embarrassed about. I generally use Cremo beard wash, but neglected washing for two weeks and was substituting cowashing instead. That won’t happen again!!
Didn't have a problem until recently, around the 1 yr mark. I may have over used though according to this video. I recently purchased a sampler from a company I use regularly in order to try their new scents. Wore a different one everyday and truly believe is the root of my problem. It's not pimples or ingrown hairs, the hair folicles are raised and itchy. Gonna deep exfoliate and minimize product usage this week.
Went straight to this video because a pimple popped out. Washing and exfoliate is definitely the solution. Then using light oils and it clears it up in like 2-3 days. No balm or butter. It may hurt or sting... but its better than popping them and possibly wounding and traumatizing the skin permanently
I have had a couple but I have always had an acne issue my whole life mostly due to stress. I have one of those massagers for my hair and I never thought to use it on my beard. Thanks for the idea I will be using that from now on.
If pimples cropping up at 1-1.5 Beard growth the underlying problem could be folliculitis(inflammation of the hair follicle) . I also had these cropping up in various places under my beard. Doctor told me that I was probably OVER grooming. He was right, I was always running a comb through my beard just as a habit, plus it was a cheap plastic comb. Imagine running something over your face when you don't have a beard. It scratches and opens the skin, plus when you comb or brush the hairs get pulled at causing irritation and an increase in sebum production which can block a pore. Very little skin opening/ breakdown is enough for our natural bacteria to get inside the open area and grow. This is why you get pimples sometimes when you shave too close(razor burn.) First thing I and to consciously make an effort to stop running a comb threw my beard. Second, I purchased a good wood beard comb. STRIKING VIKING brand is high quality, had a few others before this one and it's the best so far. Badass beards have a great walnut comb and I use it as my beard gets longer, this comb has longer teeth.
I know alcohol is bad for beard hair but , witch hazel, an astringent, is only 14% alcohol. I dip a Q-tip in witch hazel, reach in with minimal hair contact, and clean that pimple. The other properties of witch hazel also reduce the pimple inflammation. Works for me.
On my lazy beard days, I used to put on a lot of butter, thinking deep conditioning, but that led to a few nasty pimples. With your guidance, I now put in just enough products. Thanks Dan!
Back in 2015-16 when I first grew a year and started using oils and butters, I had issues with pimples. And yes I was using way too much product. Now I use the correct amount and hardly ever get a pimple! Thanks Dan for all this great info
Awesome Video DanC! One thing people need to remember is that if you suffer from acne, pimples, and blemishes on the rest of your face/forehead and/or body... and you see some blemishes under the beard; that it likely isn’t because of beard products... it’s due to other issues. Whether you aren’t washing your face enough, or you suffer from stubborn acne and need to consult a dermatologist etc... there can be a number of reasons why you suffer from acne, and why you have acne under your beard. Everyone’s beard is different, and everyone’s skin is different! You may just not be taking the necessary steps that YOU need to do to ensure you have clear skin. Using the wrong products, wrong ingredients, wrong methods for washing, exfoliating, and in general just taking care of your skin. If you do suffer from acne, prior to ever having a beard, prior to ever using beard products... it’s likely not the beard products causing the problem. Now... if you have figured out what works best for you, and you have generally clear skin, but for some reason are breaking out under your beard, especially if it’s ONLY under your beard.... You’re using too much product. Majority of bearded men out there are using more product than they need to. It’s just the way it is. Most people use too much, apply too often, and just can’t leave the beard alone lol. It’s a hard lesson to learn, but eventually you’ll figure it out. Especially if you have different products from different companies, with different carrier oil blends and ingredients.... You may need to use different amounts of oil, balm, butter etc. for each individual product. For me personally, I use a different amount of oil depending on the company. Some may require more, some may require less. There’s no chart to tell you, and you’re going to have to figure out what your beard needs. A good rule of thumb is that if after you apply beard oil for instance, depending on the oil the time for absorption may vary... but if after 30min, 45min, an hour..... you run your hand through or on your beard, and your hands look like you just applied beard oil... you used too much. You want the oils to absorb, plain and simple. Work at it, and figure out how much you need for the products you have. You can always use less than you think you need (often that’s the right amount) and if need be apply more... but if you use too much oil, it’s a pain in the you know what! For most beard products, a little goes a looooonnnngggg way...👍
I was under washing, over using products, and not exfoliating. That was still better than when I was not using any products though. I think we have all been through it. Just being on vacation and not having my shower comb hanging, I could tell I needed to exfoliate more than what I was achieving with my fingers. All of the sweat and salt/chlorine really needed a bit more than just fingers.
Damn I just realized I’m guilty of overusing beard oil, I have a tiny teenage beard but I use wayyyy too much oil, probably more than Dan does on his big beard D: thanks for the tip man, appreciate
Never had a pimple but I use to have super dry skin when I washed once a week and co washed 6 days to the point where my skin hurt and it was tender...came to find out that a peppermint beard wash reduces inflammation and really soothes the skin...problem solved it was gone within a day or 2

Dan it's like you're reading my mind. I was about to comment on the video about "over conditioning your beard", on this topic. Once I stopped cowashing every day I noticed pimples almost Immediately. I would Call wash every other day after that when I started noticing them I went back to my CO wash every other day and I haven't had a pimple since I don't Know why that is but that seems to help me reduce the amount of pimples underneath my Beard instead of 3 or 4 in a span of 2 or 3 days I've had 0 since I Started CO washing everyday again. Hope this helps someone out there
For my personal belief that it has to do with the weather that causes it. For example, I used to live in Kentucky and Illinois, where there's humidity I do notice it does cause pimples and I have oily skin. I use less beard oil and balm in those climates. And right now I'm in California where there's no humidity. Just bone dry. It does dry up my beard quickly but, get no pimples at all. So, use more beard oil or/and balm in this type of weather. It works well for me. Never got any ever since.
Had Acne in Highschool never had them without a beard have done washing the beard every night with a beard wash and using a beard oil but am having new pimples pop up everyday

I’ve been dealing with this for almost 5 years, I wash my beard everyday exfoliate and everything else, I don’t even shave off because of the bumps that are very nasty and makes my confidence low.
I've been getting a few recently but could be the weather as it's damned hot in the UK presently. I generally follow Dan's tips already in this so will see how things transpire as we enter Autumn and Winter. Thanks for the videos by the way Dan
I been using Clindamycin Phosphate Gel USP, 1% & Adapalene Gel. However, I only have facial hair. Should I keep doing what I’m doing, or go with hydrogen peroxide?
Does using an acne style face wash negatively affect a beard? I've always wanted to ask. Seems like the perfect time. Thanks for another great video Dan.
Super late to this video, of course, but have been having problems for a while now. My issue is that I shave the cheeks down and around the soul patch area below the lower lip, and it's when those tiny hairs are growing back I have the worst issues. I'm getting the pimple before the hair is grown back, so it's not like I can even shave it down again. I've been trying to outright pluck those small hairs with tweezers hoping to prevent the acne, but the follicles underneath have already irritated my skin too much. I'm going to try the tips for sure, and I've been exfoliating for a few weeks now. Never thought to use a little scrubby brush to get underneath. I'll give it a shot.
Good knowledge Dan. I have never had a issue but that doesn’t mean I won’t. If I had to guess it’s because I wash my beard everyday do to my job. I know for a fact I used too much oil to start but have tamped that down over this past year. Fast approaching my first full year in November. Not quite a yeard do to shape ups but it’s getting there. Lol.
i am 15, i gave it a try 22 days ago and i have grown a lot of hair and it looks like it’s connected but between all of it there is pimples it always annoys me. I use beard oil once after a shower and acne prone to wash my face twice a day. I’ll update in 10 days .
@@DanCBearded just one question, My hair is like connected but it looks like pubes or the hair is thin? how do i make the hair thicker does it take time?
Yeah it's weird cause sometimes I decide to grow my beard out for a few weeks when I'm in the mood but then decide to clean shave all these pimples appear after the shave that I did not even know was there thanks for the video 📹
My whole life even as a teen i only ever got pimples from razorburn. Once i grew a mustache i got a painful pimple on the left side dead center of my lip, it comes back ever now and then, it hurts and its very irritating. Any time ive ever lobbed off the stache it never comes back until i grow the stache back annoying as all hell
Yeah man, im on my first beard and its currently 3 months old. I still get some pimples and I'm trying to work through it. Currently scaling the products down to see if that helps.
Me too. My skin is very oily naturally so I think I create enough sebum oil. So I use very light amout of beard oil and just on the bottom half of my beard. Just my 2 cents tho
I am not here because of beard pimples but I do currently have 3! I will scale back on the oil. I also notice a lot of the butters and balms I use have cocoa butter and I know it is a 4 on the comedogenic scale. If reducing oil doesn’t work I may need to scale back on cocoa butter
I tried all the hygiene method to get rid of pimples. I barely use beard products. If I trim my beard and lower neck to 2-3mm. Pimple intensity will be less. If I grow more than 3mm. Pimples start bursting out. I love long beard, but there pimples 😬. Please help me. PS : I have thick beard hairline.
You said you barely use beard products. That could be your issues. Find a quality and consistent routine for beard products. Most importantly being beard wash and beard oil. Just make sure it isn’t cheap garbage.
What do you think about using a benzoyl peroxide face scrub in the beard? My face is not sensitive to it. My beard is white I don't think bleaching my hair out will be a problem. I commonly get big sore pimples on the chin area of my face. When shaving they go away fairly quickly, but with a beard they linger forever.
Thanks for the info dude! Iv definitely had the problem, mainly from using a little too much of the beard oil.. i wasn't sure how much to use in the beginning, But i seem to have gotten the hang f it now 😀
Wassup soul brotha! Love these informative short videos that you do👊🏾 Wash? Check ✅ Exfoliate? Check ✅ Not over using products? Check ✅ I’m one of the lucky ones who’s never had to deal with pimples underneath the beard, I’m super cautious about cleanliness (actually to be honest, I’m super OCD about it) .. As you said, it’s mostly common sense habits and a lot of the time I tend to go with common sense and rational logic. I do have one of those super thirsty beards so I use a little under a quarter of a dropper, the 3-5 drops doesn’t work for me.
Sometimes my beard hair just comes out after pulling it generally and has a white ending, also I'm 17 and don't have a long beard so what can be the reason?
Hi Dan, thank you for your video. Tell me .. there is a wave of beards who carve their short beards or shave like Drews or Scotttbarnes. Are you going to do the same? I'll tell you I do not hope so. You have a beautiful beard and it would be very sad that you too do like the others. Besides, I think Scott does not suit him at all in a short beard. When you have a beautiful beard you can do a lot of things and even change your life but I do not see why having to shave or cut to believe that life is different, it's sad I think.
Yep, I searched for your video on this because I've gotten more "beard pimples" than normal haha By washing regularly do you mean I should use a wash daily? Thanks Dan!
Hi Dan. Nice video. I have a problem . If i do not wash my beard daily with shampoo then on 3rd day i feel itching under my beard on certain places and when i scratch that then i feel little water oozing out of scratched area . This problem never happens if i shampoo my beard daily . Any idea about this ?
It sounds like pus to me. It sounds like your probably scratching so much that your damage the outer layer of skin causing a watery like pus to come out. Wash with a warm water, pat dry and brush it out. Try not touching it or scratching it. You gotta let it heal. Sometimes take note of how often you’re touching your beard. It’s enjoyable to play with our beards. The more you touch it the more bacteria’s and grime you’re actually working into your beard. Just imagine, if you didn’t have your beard you wouldn’t even touch your face.
Hey, thanks for this video but i do all that you said and still my beard hurts like crazy. I just started growing them like 2 weeks ago and i noticed that they are so sensitive and painful. I can email you a photo if you want. Help pls

Hi Dan c, how often do you get beard pimples nowadays? In a month how often will you get beard pimples?
Zero! I cannot tell you the last time I have had a pimple under my facial hair
Thank you Dan for this video...
Any time brotha
Using too much oil was definitely my issue I also got myself a shampoo brush to help exfoliate my skin less is more
How is Dan so silky? He exfoliates!
A poor diet is a major contributor to acne, eating well makes a big difference with hair health.
Very true!
Lol.
I do get some and I might try the exfoliating. Though I have always had bad acne. It might be too much oil in my diet.
I hope it helps!
Not had this experience yet. Fingers crossed; never will!
i am 15, i gave it a try 22 days ago and i have grown a lot of hair and it looks like it’s connected but between all of it there is pimples it always annoys me. I use beard oil once after a shower and acne prone to wash my face twice a day. I’ll update in 10 days .
Sounds good!
Hopefully something from this video helped! It may come down to finding the right carrier oil for your skin though 👊
Is my bad acne (on my cheeks) preventing my beard growth?
I tried all the hygiene method to get rid of pimples. I barely use beard products. If I trim my beard and lower neck to 2-3mm. Pimple intensity will be less. If I grow more than 3mm. Pimples start bursting out.
I love long beard, but there pimples 😬.
Please help me.
PS : I have thick beard hairline.
You said you barely use beard products. That could be your issues. Find a quality and consistent routine for beard products. Most importantly being beard wash and beard oil. Just make sure it isn’t cheap garbage.
Is it ok to use one of these Live Bearded, BadDonkey, Captain Charleys, And Norseman beard washes daily?
Live bearded is meant for daily use, yes. I am not sure about the others
That is a good question, and I’m not sure about the answer. I will see what I can find out though
My new BEARD GUY!!
Awesome my man!
Thanks for the info dude! Iv definitely had the problem, mainly from using a little too much of the beard oil.. i wasn't sure how much to use in the beginning, But i seem to have gotten the hang f it now 😀
I think I’m over using beard oil. I’ll be back in 1-2 week and I’ll let y’all know
Keep me posted!!
Guess im doing the same
So yeah guys it was because I was using way to much Beard oil. I’m barely on my 4th month of growing my beard and it’s coming out good
@@marvin2326 had the same issue as well. Having a good wash routine also helped
How do you deal with beard hair growing through pimple scabs preventing them to heal?
Deep exfoliation, consistently
Can beard come after phase of Pimples? Does there is myth that people having pimples will have beard?
No general rule there
@@DanCBearded ok sir n thank you for ur reply. Generally no big utuber replies comment bt sir u did😊😇😍
@@DanCBearded sir i have thin but a cm long hair follicles. How much time it will take to turn it into beard?

I get pimples where i have no beard. My beard has just started coming. I am 20.
And when the hair comes on the face it comes with a pimple
Bro i have used minox two times before i stopped each time after some gain...
And now im.using again will.it work same like before now?
I do not know enough about that topic to say
Are going to do a video on gym/hygiene with products? I'm kinda at a loss for the order in which to use.
I will write that down as an idea!
What shampoo do you recommend?
Check out his co-wash vid and over conditioning.
I think I did early on and I used less product and haven't really had any in quite a while.
Wassup soul brotha!
Love these informative short videos that you do👊🏾

I’m one of the lucky ones who’s never had to deal with pimples underneath the beard, I’m super cautious about cleanliness (actually to be honest, I’m super OCD about it) .. As you said, it’s mostly common sense habits and a lot of the time I tend to go with common sense and rational logic.
I do have one of those super thirsty beards so I use a little under a quarter of a dropper, the 3-5 drops doesn’t work for me.
The only acne I get is around my mouth only when I have a beard. Just sucks, goes away if I'm clean shaven
I have a short ass beard and like just hella pimples at the bottom sort of like on the neck it looks sooo bad
This video should help!
Dan C Bearded, is in the morning, around lunch and before bed too many times to be putting in product? My beard has only 6 1/2 weeks of growing time.
I work in a hot enviorement plus a bunch of metal shaving and oil from parts so should I wash it daily basicaly?
Yes, without a doubt!
@@DanCBearded Thank you so much man
I felt like it was common sense but at the same time IDK if it was healthy
@@jermainreyes5886 totally know what you mean 🤝 always here to help!
I only get pimples when I grow the beard out. When I clean shave they almost never show up. Anybody else got the same problem?
Are you using products? If so, try using less
hey Dan I am 16 and my beard is just growing and i have a lot of pimples of my chin i think we're
Sometimes my beard hair just comes out after pulling it generally and has a white ending, also I'm 17 and don't have a long beard so what can be the reason?
Just your age my man. It’s extremely rare for a 17 year old to have a long beard. Just have some patience and healthy habits
I started growing my beard and now I got to big bumps not sure if its ingrown hair but can't get rid of them
The techniques from this video should help!
Hi . Good advice Dan. When I shave my beard I have no acne but when it grows like 2 weeks in I get serious acne and it hurts my face.
The steps in this video should help!
Thanks Dan!
If you have conditions that need it, then yes for sure!
Hi Dan. Nice video. I have a problem . If i do not wash my beard daily with shampoo then on 3rd day i feel itching under my beard on certain places and when i scratch that then i feel little water oozing out of scratched area . This problem never happens if i shampoo my beard daily . Any idea about this ?
Water oozing out? No, sorry brotha
Grandpas Pine Tar Soap, can be used daily if needed.
I reccomend the granpas charcoal soap
If that works for you, then absolutely. Pine tar soap is too harsh for me to use daily
@@DanCBearded yea this one was to harsh also. Hobestly honest Amish or soap or regular full of chemicals shampoo works better for me
Please dan help me bro..I did all you say but the problem persist..it hurts
I do not have anything outside of this video. If anything, try a different wash and oil
@@DanCBearded I'll give it a try..thanks bro..my beard is what it is thanks to your tips..big respect to you legend.
I am breaking out like crazy...i an 48 and trying to grow mt first beard.. i found another video that said to oil every day and it really killed me...
You should be using oil every day. You are either using too much or using an oil that doesn’t work for you. What are you using?
@@DanCBearded live bearded is the brand, DEFINITELY need advice.
Can oils with a 4-5 rating still make your beard grow?
No oil is going to make your beard grow, they can only help in the process with good habits. 4 and 5s can work for some guys
Hey, thanks for this video but i do all that you said and still my beard hurts like crazy. I just started growing them like 2 weeks ago and i noticed that they are so sensitive and painful. I can email you a photo if you want. Help pls
