Update: Part 2 with Terminator Armour is out - th-cam.com/video/9CvvPukVF_s/w-d-xo.html Who has a suggestion for the theme of the base ? The default will be a generic desert planet, maybe with a single tuft. 😁
Pavement like some roads in old cities? Like this ork is infiltrating a parade of Ultramarines or something. Maybe in ocre colors, to contrast with the minis
This ork beleived it could meet the umie’z ‘throne room’ so therefore he made it into the emperor’s throne room, met the emperor, and had a good scrap with some custodes. The base could be a marble, maybe patterned palace floor?
Just to note, although made by the same guy who sculpted many of those classic models (Kev Adams), the miniatures you showed in the intro are actually modern sculpts from a few years back! They are still available, along with some very cool space goblins, on the Knightmare Games website, bought some not too long ago.
Oh that's awesome, I assumed the HD pictures of such old models with that blue background were part of some White Dwarf. I'll be sure to add that to the description, thanks!
It had been nice to see the reference photos of the old Space Orks throughout the video. And sourcing bits from different kits to truly make a modern version of the old mini
Since Orks salvage everything they deem useful, getting a space marine armor for ork bosses is totally make sense. Space marines are formidable foes to fight, Orks love them for the good fight they give. Taking their armor for themselves would show what a great boss this ork is!
glad you went into the classics my friend, yeah back in the old days it was pretty much Everyone in Spaceman armor and weapons. Primarchs where just big Dudes and not Specially made by the Emperor and Custodies really did look like the Piller men from Jojo.
Thanks! My knowledge on the alternative Heresies is very limited but it does sound like a treasure trove of ideas. It is something that will be on my mind for sure, just not quite sure when I'll try making some.
It would definitely cost more but if you collect orks or know someone, you'll be surprised how many extra bits you get in those old kits. The new kommando box has been a really nice source of extra arms for a few of my projects.
I just recently started doing an Ork themed world eaters army. I have been using some of the new iron jaws kits from AOS as they are bigger and more heavily armoured ork bodies and using green stuff to fix arms and backpacks on. Main thing I noticed was the difference in the physiology of the Orks is the stooped head position, bigger bulk but also the hips go outwards a lot more than a human which is more vertically oriented. Most ork legs come out of the torso near 90 degrees. Great work :) can’t wait to see more!
Technically shouldn’t orks be able to use space marine armor without the black carapace? They just have to believe it works just as well without it or that it’s actually light as a feather and powered by the warp.
Old lore yes but new lore it does require modification because it needs to be orky enough for their reality abilities to work and would probably only work on a bigger Ork as their reality manipulation is greater
The metal bits on the outside are not actually power armor. They're just modular armor plates that attach to the power armor, which is a mostly flexible suit (that's the "glove" you hear marines refer to, BTW). An Ork could easily salvage marine plating from the battlefield and just attach it to whatever they liked.
You only need the black carapace to interface with the armor to use it to its full abilities. In this instance the orks just wear it similar to how knights wear their armor, its not that deep.
Wee tip that might help with loincloths/capes etc is to flatten it out and let it rest on some grease paper for an hour, it'll be a lot less sticky, and you can pose it a little easier, great job with the conversions mate, retro one really hit the mark with that pose lol looking forward to the next one
I really like both of those conversions, and the paint jobs are exceptional. I think they would look awesome on snow bases, but I have no idea what I'm talking about. Can't wait to see the chaos version. Thanks for sharing!
If you make another WAGGHHHHH! Marine you should make it from various Space Marine parts. Think about it. Do you think the Orcs know about the Chapters? At least by name? They'd probably cobble together something made of the armours of loads of different Space Marine Chapters. BONUS FREE TIP: If you want to make cloth for a mini and don't have or don't want to use green stuff or anything like that, get some PVA Glue into a container and soak some tissue paper or anything similar, in the PVA glue then apply the soaked Tissue to the model then poke and prod the tissue to a shape you want then let it dry. Works wonders!
Amazing stuff. I also made something cursed when I looted pal's space marine bits and noticed the marine arms and pauldrons fit oh so nicely on ork body....
Doing it with an ork warboss and painting all the Space marine parts look like all the different chapters would be dope. Like He has fought and killed each chapter of spacemarine
Damn, now I´m thinking about making some orkmarines too, I have a deathwatch veterans box laying around that I thought i could kitbash with chaos space marines (they dont fit that well tho), but now I´m gonna do some orks, maybe even grots in power armor
Power armour was an option for all factions in the old Rouge Trader, just pay the points and you could upgrade your characters..,so an Ork Champion in power armour with a displacer field was a viable option. There was some miniatures released as Tin Boyz but they were more a robot ork
Late to the party, but back in the olden days, the orange that was used to highlight red was called Blood Angels Orange. Trollslayer Orange is probably the closest modern equivalent, but it's a bit darker than the old one was.
OK, so I scrolled through your comments looking for if anyone made the suggestion and didn't find it. For doing banners, capes and loincloths, try using alternative materials, small strips trimmed off of aluminum cans can be bent into "rough shape" and then finished with green stuff if necessary. I find that in most cases I don't need extra green stuff to soften the look, once primed it will hold its shape well and blend well with the minni.
Interesting, I did consider using some stuff like that but never could find anything with the right texture on them. Covering them with green stuff might just work. Cheers!
If you want to make a crotch banner (or anything else made of greenstuff that might stick to itself) you can roll it out to shape, and then coat it in baby powder or talcum powder before trying to shape it up. using a dot of super glue to make sure it really sticks exactly where you want it to helps as well. make sure to wash it off after it dries though.
I would have chained a Marine chesplate over an Ork’s chest kinda how one of the cosmetics looked like in the now-gone game Eternal Crusade, but I love how the more retro-one came out!
Sort of reminds me of this campaign I hear of once called DEF WOTCH. It was an ork game of, I think rogue trader. The players, playing orks, decided that since they were so good at crumping, Spess Mereens must be really powerful orks. So they joined a Death Watch company through a combination of disguises and a whole lot of brazen balls.
I made a Deff WAGH KillTeem. I used classic black or/Ard Boys armor and helmets then added Space marine Gear weapons, and back pack. Then I made em all Freebooters and their original Klan symbol on their other shoulder and they each were painted their Klan color. WAGH ON BROTHA
Thanks for this video, young man. Excellent video. Pro tip from a no pro (haha)… leave green stuff resting at least 30 min. That will give chance to start curing and way more workable. 100% tested!!!
reminds me of the end of 'brutal kunnin', where the main character ork loots a prototype next-gen space marine armor and gets it retrofitted by his mek
I would have made an Ork skull emblem for the OrktraWAAAGHrine out of green stuff and pasted it over the Imperial Aquila on the chestpiece. Really make it obvious that it was looted.
If you removed the abdominal section under the breastplate on the space marine bits it looks like it would fit much better with the normal ork proportions and posture. Just a thought. Great idea and models

Very cool, nice paint, I will also say this has been done... often.. by gamers since the early days... personally I don't like the legs .. they aren't Ork proportions but hey to each their own no denying that with paint work of that quality they didn't come out really nice!! I think I'd use the shoulder pads and other items and then more heavily convert the legs to match Ork proportions and posture.
Its a cool idea, but too clean, i would have really messed the armour up, to make it look like Ork's repurposed the armour from dead marines. There was that meme Ork faction The Orkperium. Could be a fun basis for making an army for that faction.

These came out amazingly! Love this concept. Might turn out a bit costly, but a whole army like this would be insane.
One could cut down on some of the cost by looting ebay (or a friend's bits box) for minis and bits.
It would definitely cost more but if you collect orks or know someone, you'll be surprised how many extra bits you get in those old kits. The new kommando box has been a really nice source of extra arms for a few of my projects.
