This is Epic! Awesome job to everyone in the team and especially the band for a great song. I'm thinking Canon should line up an advertisement contract. ;)
The reason why they used strobe lights for the MV is because the way the light disperses into the darkness. It's very bright but brief. Like a sad memory that a person recalls somehow. Then, gradually fades away. I really like the symbolism that the directors did on this MV. XD
I'll assume the only reason they used camera bodies was so that people would talk about it. Had it simply been a light board with 250 flashes it would have not received as much attention. I would have been impressed if they had somehow incorporated the still images taken by those cameras into the final production.
@phophollety By the looks of the camera closeups, I won't be surprised if canon sponsored this. Else, they could have just setup a wireless strobe system. Would have come out lot more cleaner without the wires (cheaper too, if am not wrong). But seriously it would have lost the novelty factor. Great story-boarding. Awesomely shot!
@phophollety according to their site, a sentence in the lyrics, "not to make it a memory," inspired them to use cameras, machines we use to capture memory, in this mv. The whole concept, lights show up and die out, merged when they first heard this music, "Bright Siren".
@phophollety - I think you're assuming that the cameras are new. It appears that most of those are old cameras and flashes. I also believe that the older Canons (which those appear to be) all used a 3.5mm jack as their standard mechanism for a remote camera trigger. Seeing that old 35mm film cameras are pretty much free now, I could see how this could have been easier to collect several hundred cameras with accompanying flash than to collect several hundred uniform flash units to operate equally
That's some epic use of camera tricks. Kinda reminds me of 20 years ago when music videos really were a production instead of a prop-house blue-screen crapfest.
@phophollety I believe that if they removed the cameras and only kept the flashes, the visual impact simply wouldn't be the same. Same goes for the option of using LEDs instead. Creating a PV is not about making the most obvious and practical choices, but creating a memorable experience to the viewer.
@phophollety If you go to their website and watch the video, you'll see the pictures that were taken scroll by in real time with the music. From looking at the pictures, it looks like they were metered against the guys. In the song, the lyric, "not to make a memory," is what inspired them to make this video so my guess is that they wanted to capture what they couldn't see and make a memory they couldn't make. Just speculation on my part.

美し過ぎます。
楽曲と内澤さんの歌声が優しく染み入る。
映像のなかには様々なしかけがあって、
技術者さんたちやこのMVを造り上げたすべてのひとの息づかいまでも吹き込まれているように感じます。
だから歌詞は少し切ないんだけど、じんわりと優しい気持ちになれる。
癒されたいときに聴きたくなる。
パブリックビューイングとかでandropさんの映像を公園とかでひたすら流したらすごく良さそうですね。
