Cataclysm or Mist of Pandaria was the best iteration of Huntard. This coming from an old school vanilla Andy. The Hunter with focus instead of mana as a resource really made all the difference in the world.
Rune of the possum -feign death now makes you take 50% reduced damage while feign death is active and the pet also gains play dead and it has this effect as well. Now hunter has a defensive CD, and while it is very strong, it stops the hunter from doing any damage while having the CD, and cannot tank mobs with it because it drops aggro.
I think a great melee rune would be to give hunters traps in combat, lower or get rid of the dead zone for ranged attacks, change auto shot to shoot, and change some ranged abilities to melee abilities similar to how meta rune changes spells to melee abilities. Maybe change each sting into a melee ability instead of a ranged one? Essentially you will be melee but you could weave out of melee to do instant cast ranged attacks. You still have ranged abilities but no more auto shot and can use traps in combat.
Youre so right that TBC hunter was best hunter. Absolutely loved that iteration and the macro melee weaving that started popping off around sunwell was just so fun. I logged into wrath first day, remembered you couldnt melee weave anymore and made a paladin :(
I’ve always said. Lower damage of pets but give more interesting abilities. Give pet the ability to silence for 2 seconds, but by taking the ability it’s overall damage is reduced by 15%. Things like that
Yo same but no Aku'mai blade yet, and missing boots. Hopefully we get some runes to make mongoosebite and counterattack viable in pve specifically raid setting. Cause right now we may be super bursty and able to get sick 1k crits. I don't think melee is gonna last for very long in this season unless we get combat traps and some melee crit scaling aswell as a change to mongoose and counterattack.

i didnt even know there was ever a play dead ability, wow Trap Launcher was my most requested rune and I'm surprised they actually put it in already in Phase 2 but they had to do something with traps, as you mentioned, I also barely saw myself using any trap at all except for the frost trap before a fight if I was aware there might be a rogue nearby but other than that traps seemed worthless
I got some ideas for melee hunter runes in phase 2. I'll base my ideas off the assumption that we'll get 3 new rune slots same as in phase 1. Shoulder rune: "Melee Specialization" This rune will change 'Raptor Strike' into an instant ability with a 3 second cooldown and allows the 'Carve' ability to apply the 'Lacerate' debuff. Now when you crit with 'Raptor Strike', if you are using a two-hander it will increase melee damage done by 1% and bleed damage by 3% for 14 seconds, stacking 5 times. If you are dual-wielding it increases attack speed by 6% and bleed damage by 3% for 14 seconds, stacking 5 times. Now when you use 'Carve' it will apply 'Lacerate' to all targets hit, causing 50% weapon damage over 7 seconds and increasing all melee damage done to targets by 3%. Belt rune: "Master Trapper" This rune adds the 'Snake Trap' ability and allow traps to be used in combat by throwing them through the air to the current target, immediately activating on contact. The 'Snake Trap' ability will spawn a variety of snakes to the target that attack and apply a variety of poison debuffs; these snakes scale with hunter's ranged attack power and have reduced AoE damage taken by 90%. Melee crit chance for the hunter is increased on targets affected by the hunter's traps by 10%. Snake Trap has a 30 second cooldown. Frost traps now have a 45 seconds. Traps no longer share cooldowns based on their respective schools of magic. Wrist rune: "Mongoose Fury" When you reach 3 stacks of Flanking Strike with this rune equipped you will gain the Mongoose Fury buff for 21 seconds, allowing Mongoose Bite to be used in combat dealing bleed damage equal to 50% of the hunter's agility and returns 6% base mana. When Mongoose Bite is used on a target affected by Lacerate it adds a stack, dealing up to 250% weapon damage over 7 seconds at 5 stacks. When Mongoose Fury ends, the Flanking Strike buff is consumed.
Rebalancing Pets or adding some new special abilities for the garbage pets would be very cool. And I believe something like TBC Kill Command would be nice for BM Hunter, but with GCD. Something to fill the time while you run out from Meleeweaving. Or something really crazy, like adding a proc that for X seconds increases your pet's damage by 400%, but only while you use Eyes of the Beast. Preferably with 2-3 abilities (like from Metamorphosis) to make "Pet fighting" interesting. Something like "Aimed Shot becomes Elemental Strike, dealing Attack Damage in a magic school based on the pet you're using".
As a mellee hunter I want runes/rune changes: 1. Carve rune: a bit more dmg on it AND "removes the mana cost of wingclip". Would help the mana problems and hopefully make it better than the bm rune! 2. Remove range requirement of serpent sting. 3. The datamined version of raptor strike. 4. In combat traps (no launcher, let me place them were i stand) 5. Increase dmg of mongoose and make it to also proc when the enemy dodges my attacks. This would give me 5 "main" buttons (mongoose, raptor, flanking strike, carve, wingclip as filler) to press and 2 dots where one could be single/aoe. Mellee should be played 2h and not DW! And lonewolf should not be a mellee hunter thing. Haveing a pet as a mellee hunter makes them uniqe in classic!
As much as I’d love to see traps in combat for all specs, it could be a nice boost for melee hunter specifically if they could use them. I’m one of the few melee hunters out there though, gonna stick by it all phases simply cause it’s a new way to play the class I’ve mained all these years. Great video!
Completely agree with the next phase being the best for hunter. Unless they add something huge, the 50 bracket we don’t get any abilities that make a difference. Personally I would love to see something that makes lone wolf usable and move lion off of chest slot.

They need to buff up the survival tree. The melee hunter does not really exist at this point as they announced it to be though. What exist now is a bm hunter spec with melee flank weaving. Feels bad IMO
Make mongoose and that parry thing i. Survival tree proc of something else or more things. Those abilities are practically useless in general and literally useless against casters pvp and in pve against all mobs
@@liongazelle735 Mongoose bite and counterattack are already borderline useless being they don't scale with ap or weapon damage. Counterattack has some use ability against rogues and warriors in pvp but that's literally it.
I would like to, as you say, more survival and melee to hunter to make it viable. Hell why not make survival a tank like duo tanking with your pet. I mean warlocks get soul link, why not let huntern get something like that
hunter brotherman, I would welcome the TBC version of KC, but steady shot is where I draw the line. I prefer vanilla over TBC for a reason, and that reason is no steady shot. It turns us into a turret hunter with no movement window and a simpler rotation. It would also kill melee-weaving unless they also removed the deadzone, which they surely won't. No steady shot please, let us keep the aimed shot rotation and our movement windows.
Survival is already my main spec for pvp and always has been, I can’t wait. Survival is just too good but BM is just going to be too insane with the beast within. Only thing I can think of is if beast mastery rune gets nerfed again or just removed completely.
I feel like if we get a rune for Trueshot aura, it would be more on the support side like... Well Trueshot aura. Something like Trueshot giving Feral Druid's Aspect of the Pack, or have it affect the whole raid instead of group. Other runes that could be nice would be pet-specific runes, like Wolf's Furious Howl working like its Wrath version.
i absolutely dont want more runes to support other classes with- we are already going to be stuck running HotL and TSA. buffing warriors even more just isnt my dream. id rather we got spelldmg aura then, at no cost of an important rune, in the bm tree.
We do need steady shot. Arcane shot is kinda useless and spending so much mana on bosses doing multishot for a single target feels really bad. I hope they rework the runes no one uses as well.
Masters call could be likely. Disengage, would be cool, but highly unlikely. Disengage would Depend on the direction they are going. Warriors could get leap. Pala steeds, shaman sprint or feral charge etc. But also hope for something new and innovative aswell
Yeah I prefer something new for the incoming runes, my alter is holy paladin and I want something new and god for them to heal, we only have only one rune to "heal" and cost a lot of mana.
It would be fun if there was a rune to let survival tank. they can already get almost as if not tankier than rogue tanks without the flat % dmg reduction they got from their rune. It would also probably make melee hunt way more popular than the niche worse dps spec it currently is.

For BM they could do a synergy rune or what it would be called, if you get a crit the pet gets a buff of some sort but if the pet crits you get a buff. Could also work if you are getting crit etc. Survival could use some love for melee or they could just make explosive shot, explosive shot again and not this rubbish. More hunter love
Hunter's going to be great... but I'm saying that despite what Blizz did to it (nothing) in phase1. I'm equally worried about P2's rune balance and distribution, both of which are currently perhaps the worse of any class. It's also very sad that Serpents won't be viable in P2 due to their next LB rank being locked to a lv41 mob - with P2's crit% the Cobra Strikes + Sniper Training build could possibly be amazing but not with rank1 LB. I hope that at least Blizz gives us a new cat skin (not unused cat models as you've shown, rather something different like the Wyverns we got). Or better yet; adjust pet abilities, such as giving movement to raptors, fixing Wolf's buff bug, decreasing Gorilla AoE to ~10secs so that we can actually tank or AoE dmg with it in dungeons, etc. Basically opening diversity in pet choice in a non-accidental manner (Scorpids).
For what it is worth, I'm a casual dad player and I don't think this phase has been too long. If this is sort of catering to my demographic in a way, it is definitely working.
traps useable in combat, disengage retweek where hunter can actual do a step back, kill shot, make SPIRIT BOND a rune that gives raid regen!!, same for aura shot talent make these 2 buffs for whole raid not 1 group
I think hunters will be in a bad spot in Ph2 if runes sucks, warrios will destroy every hunter with warbringer rune because you wont be able to kite them, however if hunters get a rune for combat traps/serpent sting things will change also blizz needs to change lone wolf and sniper training runes that nobody uses bc they suck hard
serpent spread feels flawed. multi shot has a 10 second cd, but serpent spread only gives 6 seconds of serpent sting. Meanwhile, without the rune you could have uptime the entire time. Like there's literally no reason I see to use this rune.
Way off, they shouldnt change raptor, they should buff mongoose bite. It's a useless ability. They SHOULD and probably will add that ability that shoots the grappling chain and brings you to them. I forget the name but it is similar to charge. And it will be amazing on survival

Hunter pets will get nerfed, nerfed and nerfed again because of this. What people dont realise: Cobra Strikes will guarante pet crits. This will cause guaranteed Frenzy. So the moment you crit, you must slam down your bestial wrath and kill command for massive dmg ^^
I don't like that blizzard instead of pushing hunters away from BM they should embrace it and make it still fun and interesting to play instead of just take the easy way out and nerf the shit out of it forcing hunters to look for other alternatives. Pets are what makes hunters special. And for the love of hunter jesus please get rid of this melee weaving bullshit in phase 2. Make a full melee build for hunters legit instead and not this abomination mix of melee and range.

Seeing TSA changed to a % of the hunters' attack power would make them like warlocks offering spell power to a group. I approve allowing it to scale.

It's also very sad that Serpents won't be viable in P2 due to their next LB rank being locked to a lv41 mob - with P2's crit% the Cobra Strikes + Sniper Training build could possibly be amazing but not with rank1 LB.
I hope that at least Blizz gives us a new cat skin (not unused cat models as you've shown, rather something different like the Wyverns we got). Or better yet; adjust pet abilities, such as giving movement to raptors, fixing Wolf's buff bug, decreasing Gorilla AoE to ~10secs so that we can actually tank or AoE dmg with it in dungeons, etc. Basically opening diversity in pet choice in a non-accidental manner (Scorpids).

I think hunters will be in a bad spot in Ph2 if runes sucks, warrios will destroy every hunter with warbringer rune because you wont be able to kite them, however if hunters get a rune for combat traps/serpent sting things will change also blizz needs to change lone wolf and sniper training runes that nobody uses bc they suck hard

serpent spread feels flawed. multi shot has a 10 second cd, but serpent spread only gives 6 seconds of serpent sting. Meanwhile, without the rune you could have uptime the entire time. Like there's literally no reason I see to use this rune.
Way off, they shouldnt change raptor, they should buff mongoose bite. It's a useless ability. They SHOULD and probably will add that ability that shoots the grappling chain and brings you to them. I forget the name but it is similar to charge. And it will be amazing on survival

I don't like that blizzard instead of pushing hunters away from BM they should embrace it and make it still fun and interesting to play instead of just take the easy way out and nerf the shit out of it forcing hunters to look for other alternatives. Pets are what makes hunters special. And for the love of hunter jesus please get rid of this melee weaving bullshit in phase 2. Make a full melee build for hunters legit instead and not this abomination mix of melee and range.
