As a big fan of Greenspot and Redbreast, among a few other Irish Whiskey drams, this brand I have not seen and need to have in my belly asap. One of the few types of whiskey I can truly crave and enjoy during the heat of summer 😋
If you’re at all a fan of peated scotch, then do yourself a favor and seek out one of West Cork’s charred barrel products. By charring the barrels with peat, they achieve something interestingly related to peated malt scotch, but also different. It’s a lighter and more subtle smoky flavor that can also sometimes be enjoyed by people who find an Islay scotch to be too much and off putting.
@@markhamstra1083 I do like the peated scotches quite a bit. I have only owned one Irish that was peated called Connemara. I will be looking for this line of Irish

@@W.O.P.R it’s the John’s Lane that is really good Single pot still like Green Spots and Redbreast. It’s aged 12 years and it is 46% ABV. Older than Green Spot and higher ABV than Redbreast.

West Cork is easily one of my favorite budget whiskeys. Its around $25 a bottle in New England, and it is the best sub $30 bottles I have found.
I really like the Barrel Proof, still a really reasonable price around $40
The highball cocktail looks super tasty. Especially on a sunny day.

I really enjoyed the pairings this week, it's always good to see Colin doing a Try and having him with the wonderful Grainne made it even better (I just love her). I am also so glad that you have converted Laura to become a true Whiskey drinker as well as Aidan (those two were wonderful paired up), and silly Callyann with Paddy was fun, those two are the most energetic and bubbly pair on the entire Try Channel. Not having either Martin or Darren was surprising in as much as it was a Whiskey video.

The weirdest coincidence of my life happened in Cork (I'm from Manchester btw) . Travelled to Cork for a gig, met a lovely lady and went to her student flat...many years later, met another girl who eventually went to Cork to study. To cut a long story short..not only was she in the same student shared house , she was in the same damn room! She freaked out when I asked her if her room still had that rancid two ring hob next to the wardrobe!!
As an Australian, it was funny listening to Caly talk about how long it took to travel... when all of Ireland is the distance between Newcastle and Canberra (6 hours).

I love when y’all drink Irish whiskey. The Irish energy drink. I feel like y’all have Irish whiskey in baby bottles. I just love Bubbles. She makes ever video better.
Very Cool! A gin & tonic is also a highball. It's basically any mixed drink with two ingredients, like Rum & Coke or 7 & 7.
The original highball is a spirit mixed with soda water. And its put in a "Highball" glass, also called a chimney. But you are gift in the sense that today, basically any two ingredient drink put in a highball is called a highball cocktail, though you can see where that is just wrong from a common sense point.
My parents would always have “highballs” to celebrate before holiday meals (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc) when I was a kid. As I reached drinking age “highballs” seemed like an “old folk’s cocktail” so I never thought to ask what the contents were. Today thanks to the TRY channel I was finally enlightened...

West Cork Rum Cask is my favorite. Definitely worth a try.
First fill ex bourbon casks are casks that aged bourbon, (charred, new American Oak casks). This West Cork is the first thing that went into the cask after the bourbon was dumped. Imparts more bourbon flavor (flavour) to the Irish whiskey.

Last St Patrick's day i chose this....I enjoyed it...fell asleep watching quiet man again....I guess the most remarkable aspect is just before my neighbor paid me for an odd job allowing me to drink whiskey with my Guinness....she just suddenly died a few days ago....cancer. Weird that you should review this now but not really in the world of Irish people, even if she was Portuguese. We are electric, we humans.

If the Bourbon Barrels are used more than that 2nd time, it surely will change the character each time.. I wonder how they manage this? (Kentucky bourbon barrels can only be used one time.) -Although, I guess Tabasco gets away with the different used barrels? -They do mix into a big vat at the end, so maybe they mix the barrel ages proportionately... I don't know.

You should get the group to try The Hakushu single malt Japanese 12 year whiskey!!!!
Also get them to try it with a bunch of different snacks because the flavor COMPLETELY changes depending on what you are enjoying with it almost like you are trying several different whiskeys instead of just one. I love it best when munching on pretzels, fruit, or dark chocolate!

There is a lot more interesting Irish whiskey these days than there used to be. There are a few newer distilleries that are starting to get noticed. West Cork is one of them. I haven't seen their products in my area yet, but maybe they will turn up one day. The non-chill filtered single pot still and single malt are the type that I would like.
Dingle - another of the newer Irish craft distilleries - has recently turned up in my area. I bought a bottle of one of their single malt releases and was impressed by it. It's nice to see Irish whiskey progressing beyond the popular mixer blends and a few scattered premium products from the major distilleries.
Dingle is a really interesting whiskey! I have their latest series, all the finishes are so unique!
For some great Irish Whiskey, look for Killowen, Two Stacks, WD O’Connell, or JJ Corry. Or Dunville’s 10 year.

It’s interesting that the West Cork Single Malt has gone from a 10 year to an 8 year to a 7 year. I still prefer the Barrel Proof bottle the best but I’ll have to look for the Single Pot Still.

I was on holiday in Ireland in the summer of 2016. Totally misjudged thr distances. Day 2, we drove from Dublin to Kilkenny. Day 3, wanted to stop at Blarney Castle (near Cork), but didn't have time for the tour as we were on our way to the cliffs of Moher, where we stopped for pics and dinner. We made reservations for a hotel on the way to the next stop, but we didn't arrive until about 9pm. Needless to say, too much distance for the amount of time we needed to travel.
