While I dislike most technical implementations of TH-cam, one of its best things is to bring you new items of interest. FYI, CDI is Capacitor Discharge Ignition, a type of ignition system in gasoline engines.
Chinese CDI units can be bought for as little as £5 UK ATM. I stipped a unit similar to the one you had which also had ceramic filling. It would not cut with a hacksaw so I soaked it in thinners for several days allowing it to be dismantled. The component's were of very poor quality so you can understand why they fail so easily. I have made several CDI units which were reliable but gave no improvement to the strength of the spark as it's governed by the power available to charge the CDI capacitor. I didn't use a drilled PCB but simply stuck small squares of PCB to a back board to mount the component's to. My 50cc engine produces 120VAC at tick over dropping to 50VAC @ 35mA at maximum revs. Thanks' for your video's Chris.
Hi, Only CDI units with microcontrollers have advanced ignition timing, while the others only have different spark power with limited timing advancement, ranging between 5000 and 12000. In the future, if I can, I will design an advanced model and share it.
@@MrWolfDiy Original cdi units for bikes up to 1995 have analog integration circuitry that is used for spark advance. They also have spark retard to prevent kickback on kickstarted models. It might be easier to go that route, because i have had lot's of microcontrollers fail way too quickly in high impulse currents environment...

It depends on the type of your motorcycle. If your stator is AC with one trigger, you can use a dtsi CDI, which I haven't made yet. You can also use a separate CDI for each cylinder. However, if your stator is DC, you need to use a DC CDI. I made a video in two parts on this topic. (DC)The first part explains how to build it, and in the second part, I explain how to install it on multi-cylinder motorcycles. Give me more details about your motorcycle so i can see what might work best for you.
Many CDIs have a function to limit the rpm of the engine - and thus the speed of the bike. It would be interesting to find replacement CDIs that do not have this throttle function. Maybe you want to talk about tuning options in another video.
@MrWolf, I'm from Philippines and want to learn about in making this kind of CDI, that stator and magneto is from tmx right? correct me if I'm wrong, is your CDI can work on both AC and DC motors?
Thank you So much for your great videos, Because I'm a beginner to CDI's I made something funny, I make one of your cdi but I discovers it will not fit to my motorized 80cc system, Anyway I buy Yamaha PW80 cdi stand alone cdi with stand alone coil from china, And I agree with you its bad CDI not powerful, I hope one day you show me a video how to make CDI for motorized bike stand alone CDI for magneto ignition system two wires only. I really enjoy So much watching your video's
Before building, consider the type of CDI you need. The AC type is for alternating current, and the DC type is for direct current. It depends on the type of your motorcycle.
Hello friend, thank you, The car you mentioned is considered a modern car, and like most other cars, its ignition system is controlled by the ECM. what do you want to know?
Ok the person that owed it before me lost the key and wrecked the ignition so I have another key and went through the steps to program but still won't start I have fire to the coil packs and I'm getting fuel
Based on your situation, I have two guesses: First, the issue is likely related to the immobilizer, and it might not recognize your new key. However, since you have power to the spark plugs and fuel is being delivered, there's also a possibility that the crankshaft position sensor is faulty. If this component or the timing belt in your vehicle is damaged, it would cause exactly this kind of problem. Check it and let me know.
I refuse to purchase a CDI which circuit is hidden by black epoxy. There is a 6 dipswitch type, the dipswitch chart provided is difficult to understand the function of timing advance curve.
There are some types of CDIs where the components are visible on the back of the CDI, showing a large number of parts and has a low price , However the main circuit operates with just a few basic components and while the rest are unnecessary... In fact, a CDI with those components and a microcontroller is both expensive and provides excellent ignition timing advance...
Not all CDI from China are created equal. I have sold hundreds and had very few failures. All mine had a manufacturer or brand on the case but some would have more aggressive advance curves from the same case. To say don't buy them is wrong. They are cheap and work well on stock engines.
Hello, dear friend! I previously built a CDI specifically for the DT motorcycle. It might be useful for you. Here's the link: th-cam.com/video/ftZ9OpfuWxQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nwM-0Blr4to-__8a
That's right, it must be tested in the long term. The quality of the parts, proper assembly, and good packaging in epoxy resin add to its effectiveness. 👍🙏
Sealing with resin is primarily used for preventing short circuits and waterproofing. However, its downside is that if a component becomes faulty, it can no longer be repaired or inspected.

Je zit jezelf hoog te praten maar je weet niks van cd's.Een enorme vonkboog creëren kan iedereen maar is zelfs zeer slecht en onnodig voor een goede verbrandig.
The CDI I had only worked for just a week! The money didn't matter, but it left me stranded in the desert, and I suffered a lot... but I’ve been using custom versions for several years now. I’ve installed them on all my motorcycles, and they’re amazing! And because of the strong spark and complete combustion, the fuel consumption of my motorcycles has decreased significantly.I can't even remember the last time I put gas in. Try it
That same CDI let me down in the middle of the desert, and I had to push the bike for hours, completely worn out, while it was off، It was destroyed long before that.
