As an avid spear-fisherman this is one of the best spearfishing videos on TH-cam. It has a bit of everything. The vast colors and abundant marine life is what Baja is all about, untouched. To me this is "real" spearfishing.

I used to do low level diving 15 years ago when smoking- spearfishing and just couldn't stay down so long , I was about 43 then . Gave up smoking 5 years ago , but haven't tried to dive in this time. Wander how long I could last now, probably a lot longer. Your video has lit a spark of interest again, fantastic , just beautifull down there as well .
I scuba but have been practicing my free dive skills and have been following Kimmy Werner. Love this brother! I also eat what I catch and share with those that can't make ends meet. Pretty rewarding to see people smile. That is thanks enough! I love this vid. Thanks for the Stretching tip Dan! You and Al, good on ya both!
Love the videos brings back memories of spear fishing in the old days with low tech equipment we made our selves. before reals we ran flourencent floaring nylon ropes several hundred feet long for large fish with floats attached and a fish ring hanging down from the floats(japanese net floats and life guard floats).
Thanks, I really enjoy spearfishing because it is both a challenge and a meditation. I use the fish for personal consumption and I love to cook for my family and friends. Fresh fish is like nothing else. Top quality! I am grateful.
Man, these places you've been to...they're like the Garden of Eden of the Sea....what a bounty! Your equipments are great!!!! I love the clarity of your videos too especially the underwater scenes.
Friend thanks for coming to mexico, I lived in Mexico and I was born in mexico baja California original. I respect the tourists .... welcome friends great video!!!
I love spearfishing, there is a big element of fun to me, but my primary reason for spearfishing is to harvest the fish for food. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing where your food came from, what it ate, how it lived it's life, what it's migrations patters are, and catching the fish in the most sustainable and difficult way possible. Spearfishers take less than .01% of the fish taken in the world. I release what I don't want by not shooting them, and I only catch what I want to eat!
Much better eco way of fishing Dan! Love to dive the area you show on videos, water looks so clear and warm! I dive mainly in Cornwall or West Wales United Kingdom waters warm in summer time, wish we had fish like that in our shores fantastic, have fun and stay safe keep the vids coming enjoy!
I just got back from Lanai, HI where i went spear fishing and lobster hunting for my first time. I've never been in to fishing but this a whole new level!
Awesome video. First time I see a profesional Spearfishing in salty waters. I use to spearfish with bike spokes and rubberbands in river at San Bernardino CA. These a huge fishes you are catching great job. I just love that Speargun, had never seen one with reel. Keep up the good work Dan. Im actually from Baja California, now in Mexicali. I love fishing no matter how i catch them. Take care amigo.
I appreciate your comment. It is nice to see that even though you are not a hunter, you can appreciate the method I use to bring home my dinner. In fact, for valentines day, I made a hawaiian poke with avocado for my girlfriend, and she loved it. It is truly a blessing to harvest those fish.
Great video man! Have always wanted to spearfish since I was a little kid. WoW...you guys got it all down pat too. Awesome stuff boys & Thanks for the show on how its done!
this video is extremely inspiring, I used to spearfish in costa rica off the point in garza! It was amazingly beautiful I wish i could of gotten video !!! This is amzing keep the videos comming!!!
@divemakings , Yes, I took both the level 1 and level 2 classes from FII, and now I am actually a freediving instructor for FII, certified to teach both level 1 and 2 classes.
Thanks for responding, I know it's a different world under water. And to see God's creation and you being among them in that way and giving us footage is amazing. Again, Thanks
Great video! I enjoyed every shot! I spear in the Dominican Republic but usually here people don´t spearfish in blue water or pelagic fishes, they fish at the reefs.... I´d love to do what you do. Once again...great video!
Freediving is one of the most demanding sports known to man. On a physiological level it is about as good as it gets for a workout! Add spearfishing to the mix and you have a massive adrenaline rush that will rival most drugs! Hard work, but very exhilarating.
It is difficult to describe why spearfishermen enjoy doing what they do. You just have to try it. It is not for everyone, but experiencing the death of your food can really give you full appreciation of what you are eating.
The speargun I was using was the New O.ME.R Cayman ET (Enclosed Track) 115cm with the Sporasub One 90m vertical reel. I was also using the New Sporasub Toggler detachable tip. Perfect set up for hunting Yellowtail, White Seabass, and a reef fish every now and then.
Thanks, I am stoked you like the video and it has inspired you to try free dive spearfishing. Take a freediving class and link into the community by going to the local dive shops.
@spearfishusmc , it will take me some time before I have enough footage of shooting halibut to make a video. I too love shooting them, but hunting for them can be boring at times. The best spots in So-Cal for halibut are where the bait spawn during the summer months. If I post the spots where I have done well for halibut on the internet, they will likely not be as fishy anymore, so I am not going to post exact location. Good luck and happy hunting.
Liquid Image adds collar correction and white balance correction to the firmware. Every once in a while, the red would not adjust quick enough and it would result in a red surface for a split second. Since then they have fixed the problem and updated the firmware. I have not seen this issue since then. I was using a prototype at the time.
I am not sure what part of the video you think is wrong. Fish dying? It is part of the chain of life. Things have to die for use to eat even if it is a plant. I am also part of the food chain. Sharks can take me down also. I am glad you still enjoyed the video.
Awesome video, by far one of the best spearfishing i have seen. you guys should come to Puerto Rico and check out this beautiful island and its reef . Peace
It really depends on where you are diving. Most spots that I dive in Mexico do not have many sharks, so I don't worry about it. When I am in Florida, it is entirely another story. Sharks everywhere.
nice video.hate people that go spearfishing with air bottle, and go 3 meter down, and make video on youtube, but like this a lot of respect.wish i could stay 1/2 of the time you spend under water.
@TheBlackveilbrides44 , Yes you can spear mackerel, but they are not the large mackerel like you may find in other parts of the world. The only mackerel we have is a type of bait fish that does not grow more than 18 inches long. If prepared properly, they taste great.
Man, those Barracuda look so calm and graceful at 2:47, such a different view of Barracuda than what I'm used to seeing when I fish with them with rod & reel. I always pictured them as these vicious killing machines, the way the chase and strike irons on the surface. Nothing like buying a brand new UFO and having it covered in teeth marks by day's end.
man great video, i hope sometime in my life i may be able to try this, but up here in the arctic circle there isn´t to my knowledge any place were you can do this and it is quite expensive to travel to baja from were i live, and i also wanted to ask you if you have any good tips for a beginner, like what equipment to use and stuff like that.
Im glad to see you do quick kill to fish, hate seeing a bad hit and struggle. Nice vid mate, did these fish taste nice? I freedive and scuba but do not hunt look but not touch loved the stingrays kool!
I am assuming you are asking how long I can hold my breath. I have 3 answers: 2 min or so when diving leisurely 3:30 when diving at peek performance. 6:30 static Apnea
Beautiful video, spear fishing is just like hunting for large games on land but i assume much more challenging. I would love to try my hands on spear fishing, how much would it cost for a day or week session?
As an avid spear-fisherman this is one of the best spearfishing videos on TH-cam.

Seriously what a beautiful seascape. You would think you can only see this kind of beauty on the Discovery Channel but it's out there!

this guys spear placement is insane. I've watched a few of his vids now and I've never seen so many fish stoned in my life...

that's just astonishing....you have such a privilege to do that for excitement and hunting.
thank you
This is now on my bucket list.
Awesome vid Dan. Your website is now top of my favorites list. Wish I had the warmer Baja waters up here!
ive watched this guy so many time, and i havent seen him miss his shot ever
El mejor vídeo que he visto hasta ahora, enhorabuena !!
OMG the bass in the song...
Great video LOVED it!
arent there any sharks that is drawn to the blood smell ?
It depends on where you are. Where I mostly dive, it is not an issue.
oh okay
Dan Silveira How do you know the areas that don't have shark problems ?
nope
Flip111000 I know this is an old comment but if you get a good shot the fish doesn't bleed much until you take the spear out
God, this is one of the coolest thing Ive ever seen!
TREMENDO!!

Epic video
These fish are very strong and will take you for a short ride. I have been freediving for over 20 years. I was a child when I started.
heaps of butterfly effect, legend! Representing the Aussies!
I would like to have all those lobsters! yummy

Thanks for responding, I know it's a different world under water. And to see God's creation and you being among them in that way and giving us footage is amazing. Again, Thanks
Yes, it is much different. It is more like accurate pointing than aiming. It takes some getting used to, but at least the shots are close.
Damn, Dan! Your footage and skills are off the chain... Wicked sweet videos and tips, thanks so much for sharing.
hey thanks for posting and giving info. Videos like this people pay for. Keep it up.

Absolutely brilliant video. One of the best spearfishing vids I've ever seen. That crayfish was a monster. What did it weigh?
Nice man, I went spear fishing in Mag Bay and the islands surrounding it in Baja a few years back. Had the time of my life, definitely a dream spot.
I also love Bay of LA. Very cool place. Yellowtail are there in May, then in the summer, you can shoot get small grouper and dorado. Have fun!

beautiful halibut at 13:00. keep up the great work. love your videos.
I am not afraid, but I have great respect for them, and I never underestimate their ability to inflict harm.
Thanks, I am stoked you like the video and it has inspired you to try free dive spearfishing. Take a freediving class and link into the community by going to the local dive shops.
I have to say, spearfishing looks fun as Hell.

Yes, that is one of the best parts of the fish!!!

Nice catch, it's great living off nature in a sustainable way.
woah. blood looks cool underwater
Awesome video, by far one of the best spearfishing i have seen. you guys should come to Puerto Rico and check out this beautiful island and its reef . Peace
I live in So-Cal so when I got spear fishing I like to dive off the Catalina Islands. Pretty nice semi-close spot. It doesn't stack up to Baja though.
That is why we use a reel or a float line attached to a buoy. Good luck!
Fantastic footage and nicely edited. Subscribed!
6:15 that shot!!! the fish stopped fighting instantly!!!!
@MrNonickdude , Yes, the gun is among my all time favorites. The power, accuracy, and maneuverability is unmatched by any gun.
Sounds like a lot of fun, and I am planing to visit some time soon.

Good stuff.
Have you tried any of the ARDs (air restriction devices) to train your lungs for longer breath-holds?
I like to dive from about 15' to 40' for yellowtail. I use the omer stingray fins.
wonderful video looked like great fishing.Turtle was almost food. Fantastic closeup shot.
Im glad to see you do quick kill to fish, hate seeing a bad hit and struggle.
