Truly happy to have found your channel Sir!! Much peace from Kenya ... 😊🙏
Hello and welcome to the channel. Thanks a lot for your positive response to the videos and I hope you'll continue to find more inspiration from the featured illustrators.
Hello and thanks fr the comment. I bought the Rocketeer book many years ago and it is still a treasured possession. I seem to reall the film is OK too but it was a long time ago.
Wonderful! Thanks a lot! Every now and then I saw a drawing style that I only knew from Joost Swarte (Artist) born in 1947). Indeed these videos are a source of inspiration.
Cracking stuff! Before we can read we note and register imagery. It sticks in the subconscious. I collected postage stamps - another reflection of evolving graphics. I now collect sheet music covers from internet. These covers are a source for analylitical study of history, ‘current events’ and attitudes of the time. I do mezzotint stamp and bookplate art, but theses colors are huzza!
I haven't spent a great deal of time in Belgium, so I never noticed the steep wooded hills and valleys depicted in the poster at 8:59 . Perhaps you have to go via Harwich to see Belgium in it's full, mountainous glory!

Hi Pete. Great video. I enjoy art deco. I am a hobby painter and I am always looking for new ideas and compositions. Are there any current art deco landscape painters or can you suggest some past painters I can look into? Thanks
Hi and thanks for the comment. Contemporary art isn't really my territory, but in terms of the past I can think of a couple of illustrators/artists who might fit the bill. French poster artist Roger Broders did some great scenic views. And there were also quite a few in Britain. If you haven't seen it take a look at my art of the underground video (shameless plug) which features loads of great modernist landscapes. Happy hunting...

This is why I love German. The style could be oversimplified, but practical and most designers actually appreciated changes and lenient of changes. And I love cover music art!
Hello and thanks a lot for your appreciation of the video.
@@petebeard you're welcome forsure! 😀 such great insights around the subjects and HNY of 2022🌻☕
This whole video is splendid - the narration made it perfect!
Hello and thanks a lot for the comment.
APSACA! I've not commented for a while, for fear of superfluous repetition, but I have been watching!
Hello again and that's good to know.
Your vids make it somewhat easy to learn more every day thanks
Hello again and thanks again.
Outstanding work Sir…
Hello and thanks a lot. It's good to know the content is appreciated.
CRazy and cool art deco illustration !
Hi and thanks a lot.
Just stumbled across this wonderfully produced video today, totally by accident. I am currently recreating and improving upon some of my old Art Deco inspired artworks, and this video has given me so much renewed appreciation and inspiration. Sincere thanks for providing, producing and uploading this absolute gem of a video:)😊
Hello and I'm glad you appreciated the video and it has boosted your inspiration. If it helps there are also profiles of individual art deco illustrators from around the world featured in my unsung heroes of illustration series.
@@petebeard Many thanks for your reply. Time permitting, I will follow up on your kind suggestions. Sincere thanks again:)😊
Illuminating and inspiring!!! Thank you!
And thanks to you for the appreciation.
Hello Mr. Beard. I'm back again. I just discovered your channel with the Dulac documentary and have left a comment there. Also subscribed. Overjoyed to find this episode. Am a student too of the piano and into early twentieth century Latin music. Read Brazil and Argentina. Sadly no access to any original scores the illustrations of which I see on Ragtimedorian, on TH-cam. Also holding on to many LPs in original sleeves from the late 40s onwards. Truly happy to have found your channel Sir!! Much peace from Kenya ... 😊🙏
Hello and welcome to the channel. Thanks a lot for your positive response to the videos and I hope you'll continue to find more inspiration from the featured illustrators.
You're videos are fantastic. Love art deco design. One of my favorite movies is the Rocketeer. The hero wears a beautiful art deco design helmet.
Hello and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm agreat admirer of Swarte and the similar Ever Meulen. Both owe a debt to this period.
@@petebeard I didn't know Ever Meulen. Thanks.Your videos are an enrichment for TH-cam..
Hello again and thanks again for your comment and support for the channel.
Love this type of art.
Hello and thanks a lot for your recent appreciative comments.
Hermoso vídeo, Gracias desde México. Saludos cordiales.
Hola y muchas gracias por ver el canal. Espero que los subtítulos tengan sentido en español.

Facinating Pete, really enjoyed this, many thanks. Subscribed!
Hello and thanks a lot for the appriation and the precious subscription. I hope you find it worthwhile.
These are really excellent. Thank you!
Hi to you and thanks a lot for your positive response.
I haven't spent a great deal of time in Belgium, so I never noticed the steep wooded hills and valleys depicted in the poster at 8:59 . Perhaps you have to go via Harwich to see Belgium in it's full, mountainous glory!
Hello and I must admit that I travelled between Brussels and Bruges a couple of times and my memory is that the countryside was nice but conspicuously flat.
@@petebeard
I'm willing to bet Skegness is not populated by chubby, smiling fishermen either! Though there are probably more of them than mountains in Belgium. ;-)
Another excellent video.
My usual thanks to you for your appreciation.
this video helped me so much with my research on art deco and art nouveau. thank you!
Hello and I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for the appreciation.
A wonderful sample of the modernist graphics of the time.
Hello and thanks for the comment.
Hello Pete and Happy New Year... I remember this part of my early art school training, though I did not pay much attention to it then, I find it very interesting now and can see how it all fit in the evolution of art through the years. Your video was a nice change and well done for the beginning of this new year. Looking forward to your next.
Hello John. It seems to be true that education is wasted on the young. Age definitely brings greater insight and understanding (but that's about the only good thing about it).
@@petebeard True, I don't remember all the aches and pains when I was young!
Wonderful presentation!
Hello and thanks a lot for the appreciative comment.
amazing video. thank you for your work!
Hello and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope you'll find more that's interesting on the channel.
Alreet Pete, it's good to see you here. Some quality stuff here and the Arthur Rackham section. It's like one of your lecture but slightly more interesting.
Hello to you and thanks. Took a look at your website and I'm glad to see you're still at it. I've been retird for 5 years now and other than this bastard virus life is good.
Retirement sounds good, doubt I'll get to do that. Out of work at the moment, lost my job couple of years ago. Trying to get my business set up, covid cocked that up for me. Never stop drawing though.
@@leewilbs I'm sorry to hear that. I don't envy you trying to get ahead in this world. But it's good to know you're not giving up.
Sorry to hear that. Tough times in illustration. Good to hear you're not giving up though.
Another wonderful antidote for these lockdown days, well done sir,....E
Hello again and many thanks for your continued appreciation. Currently still waiting for the second vaccination and this pandemic just hasn't been as much fun as I'd hoped for....
Mrs C has just had her second jab ,we both had the Pfizer one ,these are strange days indeed, keep well and safe, peace and love from the wirral...E

Hello and thanks a lot for your appreciation.
I'm starting a shadow box featuring a NY apartment in the Art Deco style In miniature I will be using this video as reference, Thank you so much I really enjoyed it.
Thanks a lot for your appreciation and I hope you find the content useful in your endeavour.
Hello Pete, I'm so happy I discovered your video, I came here looking for some George Barbier and little did I know that there is this amazing Brazilian artist called J. Carlos! I had never heard of him, and I feel kind of ashamed, because I'm Brazilian, too. Do you know if there is any nice book about him and his illustrations? Hopefully a beautiful coffee table book? Thank you so much!
Hello and thanks a lot for watching the video. The bad news is I have been unable to find a book about ths genius. I wish I could. But the good news is that my video 'unsung heroes of illustration 3' features him and his work in greater detail. I hope you continue to watch the channel.
@@petebeard thank you so much! I’ll definitely watch it!
Just excellent ! Thanks from La Plata, Buenos Aires ! Congratulation for ypur channel!
Hello and many thanks for your positive comment. I hope you will find more to enjoy.
Another great video. Many thanks pete.
Thanks again and I'm glad you are finding more to watch that's of interest to you.
Beautiful work
Hello and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
