Every time I fear death, I listen to this. My main fear of death is eternal punishment. I consider myself an atheist, but sometimes when I think too much, I get dreadful thoughts about how I would be punished forever just because I didn't believe in some deity. I would like Christians to think of the chance that there isn't a God, to see why we want there to be a God, Eternal Oblivion is a punishment worse than hell, I would much rather feel pain than feel nothing at all, to exist rather than not. People are sort of forgetting that God and religion is about faith, people need books like the Quran, Bible, and the Torah (also non abrahamic religions) to be shaped into good passionate people who will teach their children to be good people. The reason why there were things like Heaven and a deity was because human beings are complicated and need to be lied to in order to be a good person which sucks, but its true. This is not to say this is un-abusable, we have evidence that many popes and priests were corrupt and vile people who used faith in order to help their bias and get rich, which sucks

Religion is a funny thing. Humans do things for certain reasons. Religion tells you that you need to do good things to be rewarded with some sort of afterlife. The afterlife helps people make peace with death. People do good things to be at peace and because it is what the church tells them will gain them acess to the afterlife, which makes them happy. In my opinion, most truly good people are agnostics and atheists, because they do good things of their own volition. And they realize that death is inevitable and they move on with their lives. After all, if we were imortal, what would life even be for?

Considering it is the younger generation who is god-less, the ones with modern day schooling and modern scientific influences, I don't think it is the children that will need this lesson of there being no god. After all, the old people, who has lost sons and daughters, are firm in believing there is a God, it helps them sleep at night for all the wrong and right they have done, for all the suffering and losses they have seen and had. My first impression was that the lyrical repeat the line as a mantra to remind himself to not believe in god. He is also irresolute about his own conclusions as he said because he is at least seeing a "chance that [he's] wrong". Well... Considering it is the younger generation who is god-less, the ones with modern day schooling and modern scientific influences, I don't think it is the children that will need this lesson of there being no god. After all, the old people, who has lost sons and daughters, are firm in believing there is a God, it helps them sleep at night for all the wrong and right they have done, for all the suffering and losses they have seen and had. Nothing shakes a parent's spine than thinking of no afterlife for their child...

Thank god for the TH-cam-recommendation algorythm! I just love the lyrics, you can interpret in so many ways. My first impression was that the lyrical repeat the line as a mantra to remind himself to not believe in god. He is also irresolute about his own conclusions as he said because he is at least seeing a "chance that [he's] wrong". I have the feeling that this lyrical I knows that he wouldn't go to heaven even if there is a god. So he's keeping himself into the illusion of meaninglessness "till the day that [he] dies"...
