The new rock work really does change that portion of the Rivers of America from a mundane "back side of the park" to something quite remarkable. While the layout of the tipis is more compact, I think the native American scenes occupy at least as much space as before, but look significantly better now. Thanks for taking the time to put these side by side comparisons together: I really enjoyed them.
The shaw-man was surrounded by fellow male Indians listening to the story of how the flute would call upon the spirits. We use to change that sorry line over and over and over....... I use to say, he's telling them how bad we looked and uncoordinated OR.....depending on things (can't do now for PC reasons) was how there was a hidden casino behind the rocks. We joked about that when hunch back was popping g off back in the day as it wrecked the area with noise and overpowering music or cheers.
As for the Shaman; I agree he is welcoming the passersby. In Sedona, we often climb the Cathedral or Bell rocks to join the tribal chief for meditation and blessings.✨🙏🏽✌🏽
Thanks for the side-by-side, both from the River and on the train. I was in both parks for 1 day last week and didn't have time to do as much as I'd like. Walking back and forth to maximize the ride time I still managed to walk over 11 miles that day. We even had the very rare afternoon rain shower. I heard a cast member say they've never seen it rain in August!
And in my opinion, they destroyed so much. We lost over 50' of island on the backside. When we paddled behind the island, you took that turn and the world disappeared! That's why I loved working the attraction, as it was different. You could take in that cool, windy breeze while the sounds we're quieter and more peaceful between the old.cabin and up to the barrel bridge. And more so I miss the water falls!
Port = left; starboard= right. Here's an easy way to remember - starboard has more "R's" so it's on the "R"ight! Otherwise, awesome comparison! I won't weigh in on which I like better yet myself as I'll hold judgement till I get to go again, but it's looking very visually interesting and fresh :)
Lovin' these, Dave....thanks! And, of course...I think the new scenes are all so striking....yeah, that's the word...striking! I have one question for you, however: Has the "Hidden Mickey" of boulders in the water been relocated, or is it gone?
It was not uncommon for American Indians, especially elders, to go up a mountain top or overlook to communicate with their gods. A very spiritual thing. Although in this case Disney was probably intending for him to be talking to the folks on the train.
Lee Vining, I thought it was just me! I understand the need for all the elements required for Fantasmic!, but it is looking more and more junky to me. Back in the day it was pretty, but now, not so much. 😒
There was a settler at one time when it was the Indian War Canoes. It was removed for obviously reasons. Now the gas was turned off to be cabin in the late 90s as there were gas leaks found. Also, the maintenance cost were cut to zero by management at this time where people like me, we're fixing things on the river without facilities knowing. Managers knew we were but others did not in order to dodge union issue. Even the "highest" levels knew what was going on because we were respected in a way no other part of the park was. But that.....that's a LONG story for another time. Anyhow, little to every of your knowledge as well, to the left corner of the cabin was the old remains of a bear that use to pop up behind a rock . It road a steel track but the rust and neglect took its toll . Probably in the 1970s.
It is weird to have the shaman up high, he tells the story of how the woodpecker taught the native Americans how to make a flute. So it made more sense him telling it to the village children. They just need to change the audio to him saying something else, maybe speaking to the earth and animals, giving thanks. It really just needs new audio to have it make better sense as to why he would be far up on the rocks alone talking to himself. The Shaman is like: hey where are you going? I'm telling you a story. I'm not done yet, come back. I haven't gotten to the best part. 🛶 🤣
Socalgrl 75, LOL... your right in a way. It seemed odd to me as well. But, I think the audio to the passers by is responsible. It's the commentary on the train and/or riverboat that references the people in the valley below that makes no sense...there is no one there below him.
Thanks Dave for doing videos like this. Can you show a photo or video of the "fort" before and after? I'm having a hard time putting the two together in my mind !
The one thing that bothers me is the new slopes have 3 or 4 steps carved into them which is rather artificial perhaps in a few years the plant life will get big enough to obscure that aspect Also, like you mentioned... How did the Chief get up there? they should have included a basic easy to spot a trail that a real chief could have taken but then again perhaps he turned into a bird and flew up
David Good, I assume you mean the chief on the horse. He could actually ride his horse along the railroad path. Yes, the brush growing in will make a big difference.
Also, the tunnel or route now used for star wars from under the hungry bear was a service tunnel. It's nothing new, just repurposed for this now public application
You referred to the Mike Fink Cabin being on the Port side. Since that was the right side of riverboat, wouldn't that be considered the starboard side?
BEFORE = Suppior AFTER = Pretty Good Starwars land is a win, so giving up a little of the River is understandable. Not a back trade off. BUT, Rivers of America is still better than Star Wars Land! So many better choices were made with Rivers of America....
It's funny to see the Fantasmic! stage as a "before" when I remember it as an "after." Before 1992, the mill was a little closer to the Haunted Mansion and, without the Fantasmic! stage, it was once the most prominent landmark there. The new stage introduced me to rubberized flooring that is now common in playgrounds. The technology always seemed a little too modern for a 19th century island, but that's Disneyland. The Main Street Omnibus was also built with modern features, such as power steering and power brakes.
Getting remeniscent for the GOOD-OLD-DAYS!!!

Yes. I was told that the Shaman is talking to "us" as the boats go by.
I thought it was obvious, don't know why people were confused on that.
A lot more Kinect energy. Kinda like what tomorrow land used to have with people mover tracks over head.
The shaw-man was surrounded by fellow male Indians listening to the story of how the flute would call upon the spirits. We use to change that sorry line over and over and over.......

I really appreciate the editing work you put into this. Nice job!
Great Before and After video Dave!
Great way to present this information, well done.
This was great. Thanks for putting this together. I love these kinds of videos. FRESH BAKED!!
As for the Shaman; I agree he is welcoming the passersby. In Sedona, we often climb the Cathedral or Bell rocks to join the tribal chief for meditation and blessings.✨🙏🏽✌🏽
Been waiting for this. Thanks.
Great comparison, thank you!
I love this! Thank you!
you did a great job on the video keep up the hard work
Love this! Thanks David!
Love this side by side comparison! Great job!!
Great video! Looks amazing, the changes made!

Awesome ! Great Job ! I was waiting for a comparison video !
Thanks DAVE FRESH BAKED THUMBS UP
Do you think Disney would do anything with the possibly furnished cabin? Plus I like the new river, just wish it was a little longer
Igor wants this River paved over also. Disney is in bad hands right now.
Very cool! I took the riverboat for the first time in April, and am glad to see that they maintained its quality!
😊 I like the after look.....the waterfalls are beautiful.....thank you for this video

Nicely done, thank you David!
Sorry, Dave, port is left and starboard is right. Landlubber.
Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing.
Great Job. On side by side! Really helps you get the perspective!
L❤️VE it!! So well done!!!👏🏽
Thank you! My wife and I prefer the remodel.

We need a Disneyland secrets and history on splash mountain!!
Howdy all freshbaked n stuff
8:29 Adam...the WOO?!? In a before video! Lookin' Kenny Rogers style.

Very very cool
The front of the island is still an eyesore.

Mike fink's cabin used to be on fire
And there also used to be a dead settler, shot with an arrow. It was redone so that the Native Americans aren't portrayed as bad guys.
David Mullich the cabin used to be on fire but now it's restored to its former glory.
David Mullich wait, there was a dead guy?
Yup. s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/91/1c/b9/911cb95b7ec840a7b45c48b63392371c.jpg

5:50 Closer to the great spirit(s).
He's speaking to you.
Thanks Dave for doing videos like this. Can you show a photo or video of the "fort" before and after? I'm having a hard time putting the two together in my mind !
We use to have three canoes in the dock at one time during operation, now it's only two canoes
The After Looks soo much nicer.
Apparently one of the riverboats was originally used in the classic Davy Crockett movie, but I imagine the ones now are all reconstuctions.
Starboard is the right side of the boat. You called it port at 7:10
what ups FB
I do have a question though...where's the trestle and tunnel from the attraction, Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland? Did they remove that?
The remnants of the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland are still there.
Go back to his New Mark Twain video....it is shown.
I miss the original (longer) Tom Sawyer's Island, but I think they did a great job with the new landscaping.
Pretty good video. I enjoyed it. I work the ROA and both boats. Almost all of what you said is accurate.
Thank you!
More of "before after videos:)
I would have put the Fantasmic! storage where Cascade Peaks used to be. That would free up some space to relocate Star Tours into.
Ok please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a burning cabin (on 🔥 fire) along the river before !????
Total round trip time is it the same? Seems like boat is going slower in the new version
Vito Esposito well the river has been shortened so they have to slow down the boats to keep the time roughly the same.
The one thing that bothers me is the new slopes have 3 or 4 steps carved into them which is rather artificial perhaps in a few years the plant life will get big enough to obscure that aspect
Also, like you mentioned... How did the Chief get up there? they should have included a basic easy to spot a trail that a real chief could have taken but then again perhaps he turned into a bird and flew up
That bothers me too. I hope later on when the plant life grows in it will cover up the view of steps making it look more realistic.
It's a cave behind him.
David Good, I assume you mean the chief on the horse. He could actually ride his horse along the railroad path. Yes, the brush growing in will make a big difference.
kdm71291, I think they are taking about the Chief on horseback and not the Shaman above in the rockwork.
I was referring to the Native American standing up in the rock work
Left - Port, Right - Starboard. Train side - Port, Island side - Starboard. Not critique or complaint, just bare facts. ;)
Yeah.. FRESH BAKED.
Also, the tunnel or route now used for star wars from under the hungry bear was a service tunnel. It's nothing new, just repurposed for this now public application
Shaman is talking to the Great Spirit.
Thanks for this. Since I have not been in the park since 2003, can you tell me who is Duke?
A Castmember that normally works the canoes who has a lot of personality.
Thanks!
You referred to the Mike Fink Cabin being on the Port side. Since that was the right side of riverboat, wouldn't that be considered the starboard side?
gibby232323 yes you are correct
Just for your info- "baby eagles" are called eaglets 😉🦅
BEFORE = Suppior AFTER = Pretty Good

It'll grow back.
Would have been nice to get the burning cabin back.
Maybe they will allow guests to pay to stay in the cabin?
Im here para su seguridad!! #fbmuffin4life #fbstreet #fbmuffinsince2k14 #freshbakednstuff

Heyo
Hey howdy hey
How ya feeling? Are you gonna be up for the livestream tonight?
Porkins if I'm awake, I'll be there. I'm not feeling 100% but I'm alive.
Way too many artificial rocks formations now. It doesn't look like natural landscape like the old Rivers Of America
