@@darkdesigns Pretty much, this was very early days I think even before first album was put together. The jacket is seen only a few times, it went with the Headbanger single release and its in the music video. After this all outfits become battle dress theme, with Su's having some distinct features and the two girls matching, but all designed along those lines. How you liking BM so far? They are strangely addicting like almost nothing else :)

Aw they’re so young here!!! Kawaaaaaiiiiiii! It’s fun to see them where the production values aren’t as good as they are now. You can really see and hear the talent here. It’s not all backing tracks and clever stuff. It’s a down to basics kick-ass metal band.
Babymetal is an entity all its own... All these elements that wouldn't normally mix just flow together with these girls (and musicians) They put on a helluva performance! That's art. ...Don't know if it's quite metal tho! 🤔
When People ask if Babymetal are 'really' Metal, I tell them that Babymetal crucified their lead singer live on stage as her 16th birthday treat while 10,000 fans screamed "Death! Death! Death!" and a statue of the virgin mary crumbled behind her and that, yes, they can be very Metal. That's a sight worth seeing and a way we can all only dream we'd spent our 16th birthday! The greatest artists change and expand the genres they work within. This absolutely is Metal; the key is that it's a different form of Metal than anyone has really experienced before.
You may even consider their music as non-metal... But you'll never be able to say the same abou the girls after reading this retelling of another comment, but that has been verified time and time again: In their first tour in the UK, they were booked to a small side stage. 3-5k ppl max, all BM fans. No one knows for certain why, tho, but they got moved to the main stage last minute, to simply END the day. It was a crowd of 60k ppl, whom had no idea of what even was Babymetal, instead of 3-5k fans. The girls were terrified (they were somewhere between 16 and 14). The crowd could boo them to oblivion, or throw things are them. And yet, instead of running away, they decided to face the crowd. One of their skirts was tearing apart, and on of them missed the choreo, because something got stuck on her head. In the end, Su managed to make them sing along the chorus of Gimme Chocolate, and the WoDs and circle pits where the biggest of the festival. Their merch outsold everyone else's. That's, a metal attitude. They faced their fears, conquered it and owned a unfriendly crowd.

This is one of my favorite babymetal songs. The lyrics are so unexpextedly beautiful, the music is beautiful, Suzuka's voice is amazing no matter how old she is, 12 or 21. You can always tell how much they love performing their songs. Amazing band.
Life long metal head. I just cannot get over how cool this band is. Just discovered them late last year. I thought the novelty would wear off......nope. I thought it would be a gimmick. I guess it is, just like Megadeth, Pantera, Sepultura, and Metallica are gimmicks. What great songs, which are all unique. I heard people say they were such a contrast, metal and pop. I disagree, there is no contrast, it is a seamless integration, symbiotic.
Yeah, when I hear metal heads dissing BABYMETAL as a gimmick, I note the hypocrisy... they usually have no problem with, say, Slipknot's masks, Rammstein's pyrotechincs, etc. Metal, almost by definition, is a gimmick! BABYMETAL have created their own sub genre, all the power to them for being successful in doing that, not a small feat. I love what you say about the symbiotic nature of teir music, that is so true... They took that symbiose to a whole new level with "Shanti" (no official name yet). Mixing Indian influences with metal.... and doing it so well... I was blown away! Kitsune up!

I don't really find it to be an integration of metal and pop. It's more an integration of an idol group -like performance with metal music. The music itself isn't all that out there. It's exploratory. It dabbles in many different genres and concepts but in essence it's not really that strange. The only unusual part is the lyrics don't contain as much typical darker tonality as a lot of other stuff I've listened to. I haven't come across any BABYMETAL songs about death for example. They do have important topics appropriate for their age, when they were composed; stuff like eating disorders, bullying etc. My judgement could be clouded by listening to BABYMETAL for many years, though 🤷♂️

7:01 Moa loses her balance when she is supposed to fall back, and falls down then gets up again. I never noticed that before. It was during this festival that Moa had actually lost a lot of weight. If you compare it to some previous performances and then some performances after this one, she looks less skinny. So I guess she might have been ill or something yet still went out there and performed?
@Hullabaloser 6th October 2012 - this was the Kami Band's first appearance. They played the encores here (two songs, this and IDZ) and in some shows between this and finally taking over with the 5 encore songs at Legend 1997 at the end of 2013. Apart from shows in Singapore and Taiwan early in 2014 the Kami Band have been ever present for live shows since then.
5:22 - Wow, that's the hardest and wildest I think I've ever seen Su hedoban during the guitar solo. I kinda wish that was still the way she did it, even though I can understand how it may look "better" to be more reeled in like how MoiMoi do. Still, I didn't know she had that in her.
Me too. But you gotta love youtube. I ended up here starting at Evanescence, to Within Temptation, to Nightwish, to Aldious then here (via Gimme Chocolate). You never know what you'll find when you start down the rabbit hole. Also got to Band-Maid from Aldious. They kick ass too.
Not too late - they are touring the US in September and October and the UK and Europe in February next year ... get tickets while you still can, they are on sale now.
Let me ask you something please. The music that " Babybones " is faking, is that Kami original studio music ? And If it it is, I wonder what convinced them to start touring with the girls ? 1HUFFMAN Kami band members don't compose the music, they just did some arrangements, both in studio and live shows. Why did they decide to play for the girls? Only the Fox God knows. Money is one of the reasons, all musicians need money. But let me quote Takayoshi Ohmura: "I had a conviction that Babymetal was going to be something big" (Hedoban Magazine, 2014).
I don't think it's the members of the Kami band that recorded the music that Babybones "played" too. The guitar work really doesn't sound like Fujioka or Ohmura (or Leda) and the bass and drums doesn't sound anything like the playing styles of Boh or Aoyama/Maeta. All of the music composed has been done by a few key guests and wikipedia does a good job of naming those. Personally, I'm a big fan of Yuyoyuppe and Ueda's songs. From following the band since early 2013, I get the impression that they got some good studio musicians to record the original EP's that were eventually put together and with songs like Gimme Chocolate and Rondo... became the first full length CD. I still find it funny that the band played the Legend 1997 show in a very big concert hall prior to releasing their first full length CD. At the start of the band Babybones would mime at live shows just because they didn't have a band that could play the songs that had been recorded for the EP's. Kimi to Anime ga Mitai (Answer for Animation with You) from one of their first releases is a very bizarre track with a complex solo and is no longer played, probably for good reason as it's effing hard to play. Around mid to late 2013 they started to get the nucleus of the Kami Band together and they performed live at the end of the show. Each subsequent show featured less Babybones and more Kamiband as they learned more material and the members made themselves available from other duties. IIRC, the last Babybones/Kamiband show was Legend 1997.
Minh Diep they play for the girls because Koba ask them for it, and Koba was one of metal legend in Japan so those young metal musicians respect him. FI, not all, but the only Kami member that given privilege to compose and arrange songs for Babymetal was Leda. He wrote and arrange No Rain No Rainbow, play guitar in Amore and play bass in Road of Resistance

Let me ask you something please. The music that " Babybones " is faking, is that Kami original studio music ? And If it it is, I wonder what convinced them to start touring with the girls ? My 1st assumption is $.. My 2nd thought is $$. You have any information or ideas regarding this ? Have a good day
1HUFFMAN Kami band members don't compose the music, they just did some arrangements, both in studio and live shows. Why did they decide to play for the girls? Only the Fox God knows. Money is one of the reasons, all musicians need money. But let me quote Takayoshi Ohmura: "I had a conviction that Babymetal was going to be something big" (Hedoban Magazine, 2014).
I don't think it's the members of the Kami band that recorded the music that Babybones "played" too. The guitar work really doesn't sound like Fujioka or Ohmura (or Leda) and the bass and drums doesn't sound anything like the playing styles of Boh or Aoyama/Maeta. All of the music composed has been done by a few key guests and wikipedia does a good job of naming those. Personally, I'm a big fan of Yuyoyuppe and Ueda's songs.
From following the band since early 2013, I get the impression that they got some good studio musicians to record the original EP's that were eventually put together and with songs like Gimme Chocolate and Rondo... became the first full length CD. I still find it funny that the band played the Legend 1997 show in a very big concert hall prior to releasing their first full length CD.
At the start of the band Babybones would mime at live shows just because they didn't have a band that could play the songs that had been recorded for the EP's. Kimi to Anime ga Mitai (Answer for Animation with You) from one of their first releases is a very bizarre track with a complex solo and is no longer played, probably for good reason as it's effing hard to play. Around mid to late 2013 they started to get the nucleus of the Kami Band together and they performed live at the end of the show. Each subsequent show featured less Babybones and more Kamiband as they learned more material and the members made themselves available from other duties. IIRC, the last Babybones/Kamiband show was Legend 1997.
Minh Diep they play for the girls because Koba ask them for it, and Koba was one of metal legend in Japan so those young metal musicians respect him. FI, not all, but the only Kami member that given privilege to compose and arrange songs for Babymetal was Leda. He wrote and arrange No Rain No Rainbow, play guitar in Amore and play bass in Road of Resistance
