- Installing a new dash to replace the broken - cracked dash in a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. I cut this video down. It took me approximately 4 hours to remove old dash and replace with the new. Yep, '01 Ram 1500 here with the kit form dash. LoL! I got a carpet dash cover on it now but I need to break down and replace it. Best vid I've seen so far showing the entire removal and replace. Thank you a bunch.

You made that look a lot easier than the last instruction manual mine came with, instructing to pull the whole dash out and suspend it with straps.
Maybe that’s because it’s also doing the heater core and ac evap?
I salute you for avoiding removing the entire dash but I will assure everyone that it is far easier to install the part with the dash assembly out of the truck. Additionally this would afford opportunity to replace heater core and A/C evaporator.

How do you feel about the quality of this dash? I know the oem ones should have been recalled lol. Looks better than the carpet.
Chris I am very pleased with the quality of this dash, It was actually easier to install then I thought it would be, Took me about 4 hours, Yes these should have been recalled, I have been in the auto business for 10 years, and I have never seen a dodge truck that didn't have a cracked dash. This is a great long term fix, I have also installed the dash cap as well, and they are very easy to install, and look like a brand new dash as well, but I think this dash is better for long term.

He is right for the most part LMC is OEM which means all the screws from the air ducts are there the only way is remove the windshield make sure disconnect battery drop steering column 2 nuts lay against seat this allows the dash to be pulled forward with both hands (better with 2 people ) gently pull the whole dash to you then you can get to all 15 screws open hood easier to attach them all and do attach the left and right air ducts before keep dash low to body go slow and you should be done reverse the order you took apart!

I'm afraid I got this work in my future. My 2002 Ram 2500 also has cracks on the dashboard. Im still pretty mad at Dodge for designing and making a POS.
Since your defroster vents are no longer screwed on the new dashboard,
how does it look and work? Are there gaps between the defroster vents
and new dashboard? Appreciate your infos.
***** Actually I am very happy with the way it turned out, It really doesn't seem to affect it very much with the vents not screwed to the new dash, It actually sits down pretty tight with very little gap, Defroster still works great.
I would have just replaced the bezel and board. Looks more trouble than it's worth. Neat video though. Interesting to see the process. Thx man
Thanks, Yeah mine was getting pretty bad, they also make an overlay that just goes over top of the current dash, It looks decent.
my dash is so bad that sections of the dash actually pulled off when removing the bezel and was only left with a few in tact areas to reattach my bezel. Even my sub dash is falling apart. Guess the Arizona weather took a toll.
I wish this guy was my neighbor my dash needs replaced..lol

Great Job! How long did it take to replace and replace? Also my a/c and heat don't blow very hard anymore could that be cause by the cracked dash?

I bought my daughter a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 and apparently it needs a blend door event swing door and a lever that is part number 47203408, I have searched and searched everywhere says that lever is no longer available-any suggestions and where I could find that? Of course possibly junkyards but didn't know if you knew if anybody that manufactures that. Thank you for your time!
if your like me and you got one that has all the screws to put in from underneath you need to tilt the dash forward to get to the back of the dash to install the screws.

LMC.com carries both just a cover and OEM dash pad. The new OEM dash pad
is about $300 for the piece, freight a washer kit that they highly recommended
to also buy. I have called them few times to see if the new OEM dash pad has
screw holes for the defroster vents. No one there could tell me. All they can say
is it is just like the original.

didn't come with the screw holes under the new dashboard? The LCM dashpad I need
to get is $239 for the DP, $20 oversize freight, and $24 for a washer kit that they highly recommended to use with the new DP. That's $284 roughly. The factory manual I have for my '02 Ram requires loosening the 2 bolts on the side edge of the PD. This will allow for the DP to actually peel away from the windshield. This maybe will allow
me to install the 8 screws for the defrost vents. I don't know yet...
Mine wasn't from LCM, It does have screw holes all the way across the front, and also has screws all the way across in front of the windshield, It does have screw holes to attach the 2 pieces of duct on each corner of the dash, The only part that was different then my original dash, is it didnt have screw holes for the vents, But that didn't seem to matter since there is screws all across the dash by the windshield, that fastens the dash cover down tight to the vehicle. It did seem like it would be very difficult to attach screws to the defroster vents, It did look like the best option may be to take the duct and vents loose from the truck and attach to the new dash first, but either way still looked difficult, I was happy with mine without having to do that.

be sure and look at the listings, because they also make and overlay that just goes over top of the dash for about $100, they look decent if you want a cheaper option, but the real oem replacements are higher, but I preferred the actual dash over using an overlay.

can you get the dash out without breaking it I'm trying to pull one out a junk yard and have everything off but those 2 screws at each dash vent
kyle d No it'd be just the same as trying to pull out the one he is working on in this video. Their all the same, every Dodge Ram has this problem. Should have been recalled.
Mine has this problem too but mine is alot better than others I have seen. Mine doesn't have craters or holes just a few cracks. It still drives me fucking crazy though. It looks ugly 😤😲

Im hoping that the LCM DP doesn't come with the 8 screw holes under the DP. But if
it does I really intend to put back the 8 screws for the 4 defrost vents. One of your readers actually removed the windshield. I can only imagine the added work.

Yes no windshield would make it much easier, But I would think even if yours comes with the 8 screw holes, If you don't have any luck putting the screws in, I think it would still work just like mine did without the screws.

Did all your cracks start out as hairline cracks? I've got a bunch of tiny ones starting on mine that just keep getting closer and closer to the bezel. Hopefully they don't get wider and look like shit.
+***Classified*** Yes the cracks generally start out small, and the dash continues to become more brittle, eventually it will get bigger, this is the best permanent fix, but they also make an overlay that goes directly overtop of your existing dash, and it actually does look like a factory dash.
Chiltons Auto Yeah, I've seen a lot of the products the aftermarket is offering. I think I'll put a mat over mine when it gets bad enough. Wish I would have done that years ago though. I know someone with a 10 year old chevy truck that has a perfect looking dash in the Texas sun, all because he used a dash mat. The headliner fell, the window seals dried up, but the dash looked amazing.

I have an '02 dodge club cab but mine has not yet cracked. I keep in inside or in my carport and I keep armor all on it regularly. If I have at some time to get a new one how much is it on ebay as opposed to the dealer?
If I remember correctly, The replacements on ebay are around $300 compared to $700 at the dealership.
Genosgarage.com great replacement part. I replaced the dash cover and replaced the heater core. The original dash literally fell apart as I was removing it. It filled a regular grocery store plastic bag! I have an ‘02 Ram 2500 HO with the 6-speed.

Tim Flournoy On my truck the VIN plate was riveted directly onto the old dash, So it came out with the old dash, after I took the dash out I drilled out the rivets and took it off the old dash then installed it in the same place onto my new dash. If yours is attached to the truck and not the dash, then I think you leave it in place, and make sure the new dash is cutout so you can see the vin plate.

Yeah actually my wife got it for me for christmas, If I bought it I may have shopped around a little more, If you are mechanically inclined then it shouldn't be a problem for you, It took me about 4 hours, and overall it wasn't bad, the worst part was getting the duct work on the ends snapped together after it was attached to the new dash. I put mine off for years, But I wish I had done it sooner, 4 hours and a few scratches and a new dash, it's worth the effort, I'd guess it's probably over $1,000 to have the dealer replace it. good luck.

my 02 Ram 2500 because of the 5.9 Cummins. I wish it is a different brand

Imagine if the airbag goes off, sending plastic shrapnel into you're face during a collision! My dash in my dodge started with one tiny crack after replacing the heater core. Hitting potholes in my town busted out the rest!

Safety my ass. If we got in a accident and my arms went foward and smashed into the dash, and it fractured into the pieces I saw in this video, my arms and hands would be sliced to pieces.

juan al What do you mean by yours only broke the cover? basically its only 2 parts, either the dash or the bezel that goes around the the speedometer and radio, let me know exactly what is broke and ill try and help you.

juan al The Bezel that is around the speedometer and radio just pulls off, It has clips that just snap in, to remove is you just pull out on the bezel, and the new one will snap in to the dash, at the beginning of my video it shows me removing the bezel, I already had it loose and the video just shows me finishing taking it off.

I have a 2000 Ram 2500/Cummins diesel I bought brand new. I have rarely used it these last ten years or so but even covered or garaged the ENTIRE PLASTIC DASH ASSEMBLY HAS BROKEN DOWN. Not just the dash top, EVERYTHING. The plastic parts unseen behind the dash bezel and the dash cover have also broken down, the knee kick pad covers, the glove box, EVERYTHING. I got in it the other day and pushed a map light in the overhead console and something in there snapped and now that no longer works! Mine only has about 100K on it and as these diesel 2500's go for it's age that's pretty low mileage but I literally dare not drive it on the open road. huge chunks of dash continue to just fall out!. I swear to God I don't know how Daimler Chrysler avoided a major recall on these trucks. They must have absolutely paid off or blown the powers that be to avoid this. My truck is not unusable because of a failure of the drivetrain or basic truck itself, it is all contained in the dash area, period. I no longer consider it useful or SAFE to operate on the road and have not for some years now.
