It always amazes me when a musician can hear a song for first time and be able to play by ear. And playing Geddy's riffs is another level. Good job, very unique to what other Reactors are limited to.
Neil was a one-man percussion section. This (and his enormous talent and skill set) is what sets him apart from his peers. You don't just find many drummers who can do what Neil did. And oh yeah, he wrote most of the lyrics for Rush, too. Generational talent. RIP, Neil, your contributions to the world of music will not be forgotten.
Hokey smokes! This is one of my favorites by Rush... but then again, I've always been fond of instrumental rock. I thoroughly enjoy your reaction and how knowledgeable you are about music and the band. Please keep these coming!
Love your comments about drummers get no love, especially from their parents. Neil would tell stories of how he would lay out magazines as drums before he had a drum set and beat the covers off of them with sticks. When people used to tell Neil that they started playing drums because of him, he would always respond, "apologize to your parents for me." Lol. Neil was such a class act. RIP, Professor.
Geddy also plays 6 string guitar! When they started out, Alex played guitar so Geddy took on the bass. Maybe it will inspire you to try the 6 string guitar too! Check out Resist (Live from R30) for a change of pace. When you’re ready for their magnum opus 2112 (Chronicles Version) is a 20 minute masterpiece of musical composition. Their response to their record label execs who wanted commercial radio friendly songs and RUSH decided to give them what they wanted to do instead! From that point forward, Alex, Geddy & Neil had complete creative control and the rest is history. R.I.P. Neil Peart ❤
One of my favorite songs. They played this live on the Snake’s and Arrows tour and also on their last tour in 2015. It was so amazing just to see them play it live. No lyrics needed. That’s RUSH……..pure genius.
Listen to his drum solo from the album All The World's A Stage from 1976, Neil was amazing way back then. Geddy said when Neil came to audition when they needed a drummer he couldn't believe what he was hearing, said he started doing these triplets with the bass drums and it was like a machine gun it was so fast and powerful.
Very cool riff indeed! Although I’m a huge Rush fan, it was my first time hearing this song. To my ears, the main riff is *very* reminiscent of Cygnus X-1 (the part where Geddy sings “Through the void, to be destroyed, or is there something more? …”). Does anyone else hear the strong resemblance?
If you'd like to hear some more dirty guitar sounds, I'd like to recommend a few selections from the grunge era in the mid 1990s, from their albums Counterparts and Test For Echo; my top picks include Animate, Stick It Out, and Driven. Have a great day, and Rush on! 🎤 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Church boy I hear what you're saying about Neil but if you think about it, any song you've ever listened to by this band, take out one piece and the song is sooooo void of what it is. All three of these guys play an unbelievable role in everything they do. To me, without any three of them the band is void. They're all equally brilliant in my world. I look at what all three of them bring to the table and it just blows my mind. I mean even Alex's part... Would any other guitarists you know bring what he brought to this song? Same for Ged. They're all just amazing musicians. God knew what he was doing when he put these three people together. That's about all I know... because it's beyond mind blowing in my world of what these three have accomplished just from a composition standpoint.... let alone their incredible talent on their respective instruments.
Wait, have you not heard/reacted to Neil Peart’s solo live in Frankfurt? It’s the one with over a million views. He’s a one-man-show. Seriously, check that one out - guaranteed no disappointment. Oh yeah, Neil also wrote 90% of Rush’s lyrics!
All their instrumentals are just the boys jamming out which is why I always prefer a live version over the studio these are where I feel they have the most fun. 😊
Hey man I am glad I found your channel you are awesome I really enjoy all your videos. I am a huge Rush fan. Ithink you will enjoy Far Cry. Also you must watch the documentary Beyond The Lighted Stage. Your Rush appreciation will go over the edge. Peace out. God bless.
I would pay you 100$ to listen to Available light. No your typical Rush song at all, but the depth in the lyrics and the simplicity of it makes it a very unique song. It is a bit jazzy in the chord choice and arrangements and one of very few Rush songs featuring a real piano. I love it ! That's what happens when 3 of the greatest musicians just write a simple song and play the hell out of it. Some of Neil more introspective songs lyrically and ever since he passed away that song became one of my favourites bringing a tear to my eye every time. RIP Neil Peart !!!!! Give it go bro !! Would love to see you listen to it. FIREEEEEEEE !🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I don't think Neil when he first joined rush could have imagined, that he would be called the top! or consider among them, as a drummer but also percussionist in the world, plus all of the other great gifts, he had for the world that keep giving. I believe he was gifted from above there is a supernatural element like Hendrix, Bruce lee, Colonel Sanders perhaps, that can't be anything but copied, until there is, the next original talent. now getting back to the main monkey business, this is another rush cool, drive tune, used to rock to, it has some nicely linked melodies' Great reaction
Not sure. Doubt it. Did he ever get credit for music? It was always lee and lifeson. Which i never understood. Neil was absolutely taking all of their songs to a higher level musically with his playing. His parts are very musical beyond a lot of pedestrian drummers.
Rush decided very early in their career that they would split everything evenly. No egos. That was one reason they remained great friends for their entire career (40 years).
@@trenken Lee & Lifeson wrote (most of) the music, Peart wrote 95% of the songs' lyrics (post-first album of course, which was before he joined the band).
Thanks Church Boy!....The Live version of this is a lot better....Geddy is louder in the mix.... I just love the Bass lines in this. Not overly complex but it doesn't always have to be to get the right feel for the song....appreciate the reaction....Cheers
The entire Snakes and Arrows album is sublime. It was the best thing they did by far after the 1980s. It's sad how it isn't given its proper flowers by the bulk of the fanbase,, which instead chooses to obsess over the mediocre (for me) Clockwork Angels. But good reaction. Glad you enjoyed this song. I think it gives YYZ a run for its money as an instrumental.
Counterparts is easily the best post 80's record for me. Perfect production and Lifeson's guitar just growls. I didn't like SnA all that much on first listen, but it has grown on me. Still think half of it is mediocre though. By Rush standards that is. The last thing i was wanting from Rush at the time was a call back to Feedback and folk overtones on many of the songs. Absolutely LOVE Main Monkey however. maybe my fav RUSH instrumental.
Check out the live version from the S&A tour when the album came out in 2007.. epic performance in Rotterdam: th-cam.com/video/mGf9JcSXvCc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xV2rNIBG4_9o00n_
You still have not done Where’s my Thing. The live version has a huge bass solo and makes me wonder why you are not doing it. Guaranteed to get you 5000 views..
In an interview Neil talked about how he would go around the house banging on things so they decided to get him drumming lessons. There is a song, unfortunately I can't remember which one but it is later in their career where at the beginning of the song Alex and Geddy traded instruments. Love that you have come back to Rush. Cheers 🇨🇦 ❤
Neil is so much superior to John Bonham. I don't understand how he's not at the top every rock drummer's list. To me there is no one close to him. Sure you have session drummers that are better drummers like Dave Weckl, Tony Royster Jr, Eric more and all these other guys but when it comes to rock... Peart is the GOAT. 19 records of absolute greatness.
This song isnt a bass extravaganza at all. Not sure why it was suggested to a bassist to react to. Its just meant to be an interesting instrumental but nothing in particular is difficult in it.

Neil was absolutely the glue. He's what made all their odd time signatures make sense. RIP to the goat and human drum machine.

If you have the concert program for the Snakes And Arrows tour, you know the story behind The Main Monkey Business. A great personal story.
Neil is the lyricist too. The other two write all the music.

Definitely the heart of the band plus 95% of the lyrics. That's why they did not consider continuing after he retired.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing!
In 71, Alex and Geddy stood in line to see YES in our hometown of Toronto. Nudge nudge

That's why they call him the professor
Neil is the glue. You see why Geddy and Alex don't continue without him. Checkout Wheels, Red Lenses, Lock and Key and The Wreckers.

Simply the best band...ever. Yeah, I say the same thing, every single time. #FactsExist 😬

This is one of my favorite instrumentals. There is also a great live version of this from the R40 tour that I recommend you check out.
You should have seen him live😮
This jam goes hard
This album was pretty much all Fender Jazz bass in studio - his signature Geddy Lee and a Jaco Pastorious Tribute and SnasAmp Tech 21 pre-amp
You should do turn The page , Geddy play both keyboards and bass
All their instrumentals are just the boys jamming out which is why I always prefer a live version over the studio these are where I feel they have the most fun. 😊

Great song. Presto is an underrated album for sure.

May be time to go back to 1980 and check out Freewill and Natural Science. You will not regret it CB!
This is the best one from that album.."Malignant Narcissism" A lot of fun to play on fretless..Great video.. th-cam.com/video/aeUWJbs9Q5E/w-d-xo.html
Maybe its time for a drum solo
this tune is ok.

I hope you see this comment. You need to check out “closer to the heart” live off different stages. You will thank me. Have a great day

He's got better solos out there even he thought he was a little off as he had a bad case of the flu but it's a good start for a beginner.
