What are you playing and why do I like this but not that?

That's an interesting way to look at scoping efforts: story weight pairs best with smoothness of play, and hardcore challenge pairs best with minimal story investment. We def launched a game that failed the first metric, just overly hard for how deeply the story pulled. That aside this weekend is all dev prep for Next Fest with some Nuclear Throne, Mosa Lina, and SKALD in between.

    On the menu this weekend:
Severed Steel (on a NG+ run)
Selaco (even though I keep getting lost)
The Finals (almost finished with battle pass)
    Destiny 2 (new season)
And will probably also play games that aren’t shooters.

Im on vacation in New Orleans this weekend, so I'm away from my PC, reading Microserfs, hoping to finish it and pick up a Switch game

Helldivers 2 with the friends. Still find it super satisfying. Also ramped up snatcher on Sega cd for the first time. Some really great games being played by other people here!

Adaca sounds good, I might look into that. I also enjoyed playing Remnant recently.

I would suggest Gloomwood, the first Dying Light (with the DLC that adds a whole new vehicle based open world style game, just insanely good DLC), and Heat Signature.

Been Obsessed with Helldivers 2, probably gonna play that when I can this weekend. Just a really fun co-op third person shooter with some nice biting tone, it's secretly the best slapstick comedy simulator to date. You die in some hilarious ways, and it all feels really intentional, it makes losing sting less especially since there's no PvP. Other than that probably revisiting some of the RPGs in my back catalog I haven't finished. Might give Roadwarden a try.

Finally had time to play Alan Wake 2 and Control. As a parent hard to find time.
Right now for me I'm more into deep lore. Obsessing about the Remedy-verse atm the weird story telling is great.
That said, everyone knows about these games. If you want the game, you already know.
I want to get into some decent story indie games, but I struggle to find many that combine deep mystery and engaging stories.
I've heard some janky RPG maker games are decent.

Going to try out Lorelei and the Laser Eyes cause I've heard good things. In the mood for a puzzler. Also the System Shock remake, very enjoyable and a little frustrating. Still prefer System Shock 2 so far.

Elden Ring! I would love to know your opinion on games as hard as this one?
