Nothing is as good for my mini painting confidence as seeing an expert making the same mistakes I do. To see the fix is super educational, thank you so much for being so open about the entire process.
It's meaningful as a high quality painter and beloved (beloved?) content creator to show that you too can fat-trigger the airbrush and spray the ever loving crap out of a project.
great video. I like that you mentioned how long it took you to pain the minni helps to put the paint job into prospective on the effort required to achieve the results.
I see your hard work, and dedication and I commend you! I wish you the best and much success. I often find myself studying your approach. I have found what makes me a better artist in all medias is pushing myself past my comfort zone, and trying out different approaches I see you take, definitely makes me a better painter/artist .thank you good, sir.
I think your skills have come quite aways in 10 years because that is definitely a good job on that model and even if you don't I honestly feel that the colors you chose work together quite well because some abominations are usually tones of subdued colors instead of being bright and flashy. Good job my friend keep up the good work
I feel like you recent videos have been a lot more purposeful / deliberate, which is cool. It's great to hear your ongoing thought process / breakdown. :D
personally, sub-assembly painting is the best way to thoroughly get to know a model, topographically/geometrically as well as painting-wise. does it make sense for every model? nah. is there a fleeting degree of satisfaction in knowing that you painted portions of it nobody will ever see? ye, kinda. is it time well spent? well, if you like painting, then yeah. if you're just trying to get models on the tabletop, then probably not so much. it can still be a worthwhile experiment and get you out of your painting routine, which is most often a good thing.
If you want a nice oil paint stains that just shift the tone try first putting some enamel thinner/mineral spirits on the model, then use the oil paint thinned to the point you would thin acrylic paint, Mike Rinaldi has great videos about that
I see what you mean during the final look at the complete model about it not coming together, but I am with you. Having seen you go through the process, I feel like I also enjoy the final model more than I would just presented with it. (I'd still love it)
Beautifully done, I feel the skin tone goes really well with the rest of the scheme. I guess we are all our own worst critics. Also, how long did you leave the airbrushed Molotow chrome to cure/dry before painting on it? Once again, fantastic work
The best thinned down oil skin recipe I’ve ever seen is from NuHue’s angron video. Its unbelievably good and although its not the exact tone you would be looking for the technique can definitely be changed by color to suit whatever skin tone you want
One thing I learned as a new airbrusher... your colors should be further apart than you might think at first. When I went at it initially, the contrast was too small and it didnt even look like an airbrush effect, just a basecoat
Love to see the growth! I know many people say not to go back to old models but I'm starting to do this on my first AOS army and making changes that are light lift vs huge visual impact and I'm so glad I'm taking he plunge no ragerts
I find it really helpful to paint the same model from time-to-time. You've painted it before, so you know exactly what you're doing and you have an opportunity to try something different and can compare it directly to what you've already done.
Just wanted to let you know that I've really enjoyed your content this year. You're consistantly putting out high quality videos that give me something to think about and apply to my own hobby time, whether it be a practical tip or something in theory. Much love to you Scott and others that you have putting in wotk behind the scenes. 🙏
Have you thought that the hoses could be hydrolicly powered? So rather than just being flailing weapons they could also be used for piercing when said hoses are under full pressure. The downside is that because they are hoses they could also get punctured and become inoperable. Your _Space Bane_ is pretty cool too.
I really love how warm and contrasting your paint scheme is to Jay's. Also love how methodical and concrete your entire process has been, as compared to Jay's more sporadic, edgy, and experimental approach. I cant wait to see your next additions to the army as for now it looks like youre the only one producing any consistant content. Jay has been a bit radio silent on additions to his army the last few months, aside from a basing video I think
@@Miniac oh thats a possibilty as well. I figured he would have made a big deal about it being done though knowing him lol. I think youre doing great though! Slow and steady can when races as the saying goes haha
Sometimes I really wish I'd decided on a cream armor color for my Drukhari instead of the dark blue/grey that I chose. But seeing the work that goes into making it look like this, it's probably for the best that I did not.
Looking sweet! Can I ask your method for changing colors in the airbrush? I feel it takes me forever to have it clean enough to use again without having my last color in (when not doing steps of course)
Great video. Perhaps bring togeter the elements with some undershot inks on the finished model??? Also. Star Wars just isn't as interesting visually as Warhammer, Infinity, Malifaux or cyberpunk subjects as it is much more monochromatic and much more realistic rather than fantasical in its colour palette - at least that is my take😁
Scott, you are a good painter. I do have some feedback for you, though: at least this model, looks very flat. Your values are all way too close together. Check your model in black and white and you’ll see. If a paint job has improper values, it will look shit. I would drop all the oil paints, decals, goo glue, and airbrushing and just study values with a brush so that they’re far enough part to create good contrast. Also you should learn to mix your colors from primaries since you alluded to struggling with it in your Alien diorama video.
@@Miniac Hahaha I knew it! 😂 But to be fair the amount of models in a 2000p army for 40K is bonkers! Compare it to AoS! A greater demon in AoS is like 400-500p and in 40K it's way less than that. Good luck Scott, your army looks fantastic already!

Comparing both of your drukhari armies, it looks like yours is more focused on quality over quantity, you are a lot more delicate with every little details, blending and everything, whilst Jay seems to paint a lot more in less time because he goes for a faster approach. Honestly, I can’t say which one I prefer, I’m leaning towards your army because I love seeing a more slow painting approach, but for the sake of this challenge, I think Jay is a lot more efficient in his. Anyway, just wanted to say that because even if you don’t win this friendly competition, you will still end up with an amazing army because you put time and effort into.
Great video, Scott! I agree that the flesh was a miss and was lost in the creme color of the model, but I certainly appreciate you putting out the video.

End of the year is uppon us! We need it, Scotty... You know we need it....bring us the end of the year (not) trashy video
it is UNSTOPPABLE
But Scotty doesn't know ;)
WE BACK BABY
I love this type of content. Love your army projects. All of them. Great video!

20:09 this was quite a surprise since I had looked away before the warning was posted on screen 😂
You know what, the skin might clash with the cream color armor, but this is dark eldar, theyre allowed to be a little unsettling
Hellllll yeah
I friggin love this format! I'd love to see more where you revisit old piece with new skills or ideas.
Love this, it's so entertaining watching you painting something you want to and enjoying the process towards a bigger whole. 10/10

Really love the format of these new videos
Those pops of teal are doing WORK! Excellent paint job
Man, this channel is so back to form! Well done Scott!!!
Epic paint job as always.
Would love to see an oils only video!
great video. I like that you mentioned how long it took you to pain the minni helps to put the paint job into prospective on the effort required to achieve the results.

That is a great question because it does matter regarding the molotow. I just left it over night one day.

Wow that sugil on the back is absolutely glowing! I am never brave enough to push the highlight of glowy bits to white, but this looks awesome.
this was chill af ty scott
That Chronos' graffiti skills are super sick Scott!! I could totally see a full army all having similar tags/graffiti in general.
This is so helpful! Thank you!
At long last someone shows the Commorrites some love... I mean uh horrible suffering!
That death metal growl was especially spicy! Sick paint job, bro.
I love this content. Thank you!
if you use a stiffer bristle like a toothbrush to get better splatter with the tamiya clear red it helps a lot
Unreal video of a great paint job on a super cool model. Good job battling perfectionism too it's hard!
These are some of my absolute favorite videos of yours! Stoked to see your Drukhari at the end 🤘🤘

I think I'm alright

0:21 nice and clean. directly out of factory....
edit: damn, the new version is a good paintjob
I don’t agree about the color scheme not working, I think it’s great.
I love that freehand on the shell so much it's kind of a shame it's not a little more prominent.
MINIAC MONDAYS WOOO! The Talos turned out great, and good lord that chrome mask is SUBLIME!

this really made me miss painting. maybe now on break I'll bust out some old models
For gross skin with oil paints, definitely watch some of The Grimdark Compendiums stuff, as they mottle and stain skin almost entirely with oils!

Nightmare spewer. Yeah that happens sometimes with combat drugs. 😂
Would love to see you do a full graffiti theme. Some diorama or giant craft/mech.
Over a decade painting the army, no way you're passing that first 2plus invun on the lord
