    My partner is currently working from home in the nursery with a cot for a zoom background. If you are lucky to have the space to have two desks in the room, then I think you should do it. Although it’s not a permanent thing, it’s nice to feel comfy when wfh!

  • @sarahharris5771
    @sarahharris5771 3 ปีที่แล้ว +85

    I do understand the desk issues, I’m WFH in a role I never would have before and have to work off the dining table. You are fortunate to have that space though, why don’t you you get 2 bigger desks from IKEA so you can both work there but then close the door in the evening? Or a bigger one you can fit both your things on?

    The table is cute, but it really is small, not proportioned to the room. The office should be functional and the desk should be the highlight of that space. I hate to say that it's dwarfed in this room.
    That desk is ideal as a vanity or a kid's study desk but for the office you need to upgrade, ikea has so many options. And an ergonomic chair please. I feel bad for Rich really, it's hard to work from home as it is with all the distraction .

      Why does the desk face the fall... understand cant be opposite window due glare ...

  • @cathie1022

    Love the arc! I think you have enough space in this room to get another desk in and then you and Rich could each have a desk. I think that houses need to toe the line between looking well and being functional, and if you’re both working from home two desks would be so useful instead of the console table and mirror - which admittedly looks a lot better. You could always put the console table in the loft until Rich is back to the office.

    I really like that West Elm desk and thought about buying it myself, but I really don't understand why you need such a large space for your office but only have a tiny desk and nothing else really? I really like what you have done with the arc, but again it seems squished in a corner and the rest of the room is empty. Wouldn't it be better to share the space with Rich since he has been WFH? Maybe get another small desk or one larger one that you could both share? Is the office bigger or smaller than Grey's room? If it is bigger would you consider switching your office with her room - I think then your office space wouldn't feel so sparse as it does now and that a lot of the styling issues are because the room is so bare.

  • @missvictoria62
    @missvictoria62 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Just get another desk. Chuck it on eBay when he’s back to work. The table top and leg separates in IKEA are cheap enough, about the same price as your paint and sample squares just cost. Sometimes working efficiently is more important than the photos.

  • @sharonbains1102
    @sharonbains1102 3 ปีที่แล้ว +117

    Lily, just buy your husband a bigger desk so he can work from home comfortably. Out of the two of you, he's the one with a traditional desk job with an actual need for a desk and the room is big enough to fit two desks. Donate it to charity once he goes back to the office.

    • @lydiasaunders1620
      @lydiasaunders1620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Especially because he is desperate for one!

    • @sharonbains1102
      @sharonbains1102 3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      @@lydiasaunders1620 Yep, if he's desperate for one and struggling with the smaller desk this shouldn't even be a discussion in November he needed a bigger desk like 8 months ago! If a family member was struggling to work from home comfortably during Lockdown I would do whatever I could to make it easier and more comfortable for them (and I have btw). There is no reason why she can't put another desk in there temporarily unless she doesn't want to ruin the Instagram aesthetic but there is more to life than you room being Instagramable.

      @@sharonbains1102 Agreed! didn't a single table in our flat, only the breakfast bar. But we just bit the bullet in Sept/Oct and asked our landlord whether we could remove the breakfast bar and he agreed! So now we have a dining table which my boyfriend works from and I got a foldable table (my mom had been kindly storing it for me) in the spare room. We have so much more space and its made us both so much happier. Wish I did it sooner!

    I like that you’ve just gone for it, even though you think it’s not perfect. I think, in life, we often wait for things to be ‘perfect’ and can often miss out on just doing it. I’m definitely in favour of the concept “done is better than perfect” nowadays. The arch has come up great, adds some nice colour to the room, and gives that nook a focal point. Well done!

    Hi Lily, just wanted to mention that my sister and her husband had heir bedroom in the loft but since being pregnant and having a baby, they found it very tricky having to go up and down the stairs to get to the bathroom in the night and so now live in the spare bedroom down a floor 🤣 I don’t know when you were planning to move into the loft but maybe wait until the lil ones are a little bit older!

    • @cathie1022
      @cathie1022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, I know a lot of people who have a loft conversion and they don’t work with young children. Like going up and down if you child wakes up etc. I’d make the loft the office/spare room and keep all the kids and you on the same level until the children are old enough.

  • @clare11
    @clare11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the pink tones in the prints actually look really nice with that yellow, they're all lovely and warm together.
    If we only decorated because we wanted everything to last forever, we would never decorate children's bedrooms for fear that they wouldn't like it as they grow out of it, I say just go ahead and decorate however makes you happy! It's your home after all, no one else's opinion matters if they're not the ones living in it!

    I agree. Playing it safe is booooring. I realised that when we moved to our forever home. And the thing is once you learn what it feels like to genuinely loooove something, an idea or a design, you don't get sick of it :) and that is really rewarding once you've worked it out. I've got this crazy dark moody wallpaper going into our powder room downstairs. I've loved it for years so excited to put it in. Then my husband was like I love it too! why don't you run it from the front door up the wall of the staircase! That's when I had to pull the reigns in... Hahaha. Let's just enjoy the powder room for a while first! Love the yellow arch. It's great!

    Oh I love the arch! A thought re the lamp - you could put a floor lamp in place of the little table and pampas grass, that way it would be in front of you so you could point it towards your face when on a zoom (and it would still give the same visual height as the pampas grass). Then maybe a small table to the left of the desk for some extra surface area to put papers or drinks on would help solve the small desk issue (If you search 'tray table' on Ikea they have affordable ones that you can store away when not needed) :)

      What does that mean though? Is it that you can’t do additional, subtraction, multiplication or division? Or just that you don’t know what approach to take? I know a lot of people can’t do mental arithmetic, but you’d use a calculator for something like this. Like in this video, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t start out with the circle in the middle and then do the vertical lines to the floor from the half point of the circle. I know dyscalculia is a thing, but I’m not sure that was the issue here.

I love the opposite wall with the console table and then the built in shelves and cupboard have stayed the same (I did a video on these on IGTV). There’s a big blank wall on the other side which I’m going to leave this way for now... Rich has a peloton coming for a trial lol x

    When you were showing the paint color, I said to myself, “Is that a tit tarp?” Now I can’t stop laughing. 😂 Love this video!
