Been listening to the guys for the past 11 years. I drove to California for swan fest and was in Arizona during the 10 year with dayshell. Can't wait to see these guys grow even more.

Excellent video, Dave! While some of my favorite bands continue to impact my life, it’s all 2000s post hardcore who hit their stride years ago. Dance Gavin Dance continues to get better and better with every album!
I was in ATL at the masquerade for that show. It was so insane to see them all on stage together after following since ‘05. It’s nostalgic and kinda emotional to think about lol. Good job summing things up. You could rant for days about the 6degrees of separation and this band in general.
I forgot until I found an old iPod recently, Zach garren recorded a demo called “Holy Water” before eventually forming strawberry girls. So cool they put their differences aside to promote and help each other. Just which Tillian could revisit tides of man for an empire theory tour. Also the new guitarist is the lead singer of Eidola (which is soooo good). Now eidola might fall apart. DGD is like a talent snowball rolling over all great bands picking up the best lol. Check out eidola, that dudes been on like the last two albums and been the touring guitarist for like past 2 years? Such a wild band and I love them for it. I just need secret band to always be around if DGD has another issue in the future.(which can’t happen because the eidola guy plays and sings killer) my brain hurts now lol
They definitely came up with a new sub genre: Swan Core! It seems to be the case because in recent years there have been bands invoking or influenced similar sounds that DGD is known for
This is a VERY GREAT video and comprehensive log on this band! Thank you! I really have learned to like them a lot and it’s fascinating to hear the backstory of how everything unfolded and so on! So thank you for this video! Much Respect and Much Love!
I value your opinion and this was a great shot at an old band I’ve been following since I was younger than you are now BUT DEATHSTAR IS STILL a solid listen all the way through to this day. Template for a lot of sounds that were going on after the album.
dude honestly i haven't listened to it in a while and with the amount of comments ive gotten about how good it is at this point im just gonna say it was good lol
My son is in his twenties, and he introduced me to Mothership back in 2016. Since then... he has shared a multitude of different styles and genres with me, but I still gravitate to DGD. These guys write some of the most unique music that I've ever heard, and I love it.
That’s so sick! I think it really shows DGD’s ability when they can be shared through families and various other people. It’ll definitely be cool to see that ability progress on Afterburner
Alvaro Alcala was their first rhythm guitarist before Sean came in, he was present for their first ep with “dashing young and bold”. He was a member of farewell unknown. The picture you used for Jason Ellis was another picture of Zach Garren. Zachy also never returned for any DBMii touring. The original secret band ep was also released in 2011- it had been remastered and re released 2014. Those are my dorky nicks at this video, probably forgetting some things. Don’t @ me.
So my music live started with Dream Theater then I started circling around bands like this after falling in love with Coheed and Cambria. And slowly after two years I realized I was obsessed with this band. Thanks for this!!!!
I started listening to DGD in highschool when I downloaded a couple random songs from WISiRO on Limewire. I immediately fell in love with them and have been a devout fan ever since.
i feel like at this point he basically is, he’s consistently featured instrumentally and helps with vocals live and sometimes on recorded songs too, so i’m sure that there’s a reason why they’ve decided to not make him an official member. they don’t seem to worked up about it and like you said he’s doing great with them as it is so i think it’s cool either way
it's been years since i've been listening to this band and DGD survived my phases and continue to be a favorite far in my life. i literally still gush hearing the band name and get goosebumps like it's my first time listening to them again. i had an admirer pretend they liked DGD to get with me, then they actually became a huge fan lol.
Definitely not! The OP is fuckin trippin! Dude literally said only two songs on the album were any good. Wtf? He also said Kurt left the band instead of being clear he was replaced before even knowing he was no longer in the band! How do you miss that when trying to cover their history?
@@imorokr Facts . Happiness by the far the most experimental post hardcore album I heard in years . They had funk and jazz chords on their shit . No breakdowns . Great time for music
Nope, you're not the only one. I was honestly tempted to comment something like this. Kurt era was the best in my opinion. Death Star is still my most listened to album. That and Happiness are my usual go to. Honestly though (in my opinion) everything up till IG were pretty good. I can get down to everything up until that point. IG wasn't that good except like 4 songs that I actually dig. Everything after that was super generic.. But Happiness and Death Star are my favorite and what I prefer when I go to listen to DGD.
Hearing you gush about this band amongst all the info made this hella relatable since I'm also a long time fan of this band and all the other closely associated bands. LP2 is sick af. And yes, theneedledrop can suck my ass when it comes to his opinions on this band. This was such a good vid.
Yeah, I would definitely recommend it! They ended up being my most-listened to artist last year because I basically just spent the entire summer listening to them.
I generally love this sound of music, but for the longest time for any band that has a sterotypical following that I don't feel like I fit in (say Panic at the Disco, Bring Me The Horizon, Sleeping with Sirens etc.) Or anything that might appear as scene or emo I couldn't get into unless someone incidentally pushed me into it or I find one song I can't not listen to. I grew up listening to everything so it's wierd for me to notice about myself. I think what made me realize and try to change this was Linkin Parks experimentation from Minutes to Midnight on. So many people hatred and criticized including myself, but I pushed myself to listen to A Thousand Suns until I loved it. Now other then Hunting Party I love all there music (with the exception of Valentine's Day.... Just the end of it...) and I've been more willing to expand into any band or music regardless of old or new sounds, the groups that listen to it, or other people's opinions. Soooo if your as much of a fan of Linkin Park as I am maybe.. you should make a video on them.
Believe it or not, I've only ever really listened to that one song by them that everyone considers super edgy, which I'm guessing you know what I mean. It's not that I'm disinterested, but they're one of those bands for me that I've always meant to listen to, but just never gotten around to. I think once I find some free time though, I probably will.
@@hetareee_I'm not sure what song your talking about, but you definitely should. Besides the fact that they're just great, they've had a huge impact on modern rock and it would be good to explore those roots of metal. They're my #1 favorite band next to Avenged Sevenfold for hard rock.

I mean I think pretty much all of their songs are good songs, but those are definitely my favorites. Thank you though, I really appreciate it!
I was at the anniversary show in Sac. If I could pick one day in my life to live over and over it'd be this one!
I have listened to DGD for years and had no idea secret band existed. Bless you.
Of course man! They are indeed a blessing in disguise
I highly enjoyed this. Blood wolf is amazing and I'm looking forward to their 2020 album.
Thanks man! I enjoyed it too and any new DGD project will always hold up with the hype from me
Its so fuckin good
I remember mothership vividly. It was my freshman year and my friend showed me them about a week before it came out. That album is one of the main reasons I’m a guitarist now
but the real question is. did your macbook arrive?
oof.
sshhhiiittt
Just discovered this band and I’m so happy I found them
Amazing video dude. And yes, Yvette is simply incredible too 💗
Been listening to the guys for the past 11 years. I drove to California for swan fest and was in Arizona during the 10 year with dayshell. Can't wait to see these guys grow even more.
i wonder if this video would be twice as long if it were made today
Thank you! Damn do I appreciate somebody taking the time to make a video on this bands history.
Really nice video, you are rock solid! ❤
Dope video. Been in a DGD rabbit hole for weeks now n this is a nice cherry on top for me.
2:16 I think you meant "12 hours, 630 miles"
yeah lol but at that point i didn’t wanna re-record
Haha no biggie just figured I'd point it out good sir
Been listening to these guys for so long and seeing them for years. Just love seeing others appreciate them
Hey Dave, great video! I, like you have been listening to these guys since I was a teen and I'm glad to find people with as much passion for DGD as me. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much! Recorded another video today, and it should be out within the next couple weeks
dave Just double checking, thd band you suggested is Covet? Also, I just listened to Secret Band for the very first time. Fucking EPIC! I dont know how I'd never heard of the side project.
I think it's time for a part 2 or update...
Bruh... thanks for caring so much. This was amazing
SO COOL I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH FROM THE COOLEST BAND. YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB
Mama P so happy to see you here !

Happiness and Deathstar are still my favorite! So glad I stumbled on this video!
I don't care what anyone says DTBM2 was one of the best albums to date, acceptance speech is easily my #1. come for me.
this is true. acceptance speech forever goes fucking hard
Excellent video, Dave! While some of my favorite bands continue to impact my life, it’s all 2000s post hardcore who hit their stride years ago. Dance Gavin Dance continues to get better and better with every album!
This band got me thru highschool
This is very detailed and well done. Nice one, Dave.
Thanks!
@@hetareee_ You're welcome!
Oh. It gets more complicated.
Love the speed talking and getting right to the point of everything. I learned a lot. Thank you.
I love Mess and Tillian. But Happiness will always be my favorite album.
Self Tilted is my favorite album, fight me!
This is great, it really makes me realize how much I love the individual albums
Thanks for watching! They definitely do all hold their own weight n i love them all
I value your opinion and this was a great shot at an old band I’ve been following since I was younger than you are now BUT DEATHSTAR IS STILL a solid listen all the way through to this day.
Don’t @ me.
yeah looking back now i realize i made a few mistakes with the info part. sorry about that
So my music live started with Dream Theater then I started circling around bands like this after falling in love with Coheed and Cambria. And slowly after two years I realized I was obsessed with this band. Thanks for this!!!!
This explanation about to get a bit longer 😂
Bro hasn't made a video in 3 years but he really should
I started listening to DGD in highschool when I downloaded a couple random songs from WISiRO on Limewire. I immediately fell in love with them and have been a devout fan ever since.
still praying Andrew one day joins them, the guy has the voice of an angel and makes DGD somehow sound even better than they did
i feel like at this point he basically is, he’s consistently featured instrumentally and helps with vocals live and sometimes on recorded songs too, so i’m sure that there’s a reason why they’ve decided to not make him an official member. they don’t seem to worked up about it and like you said he’s doing great with them as it is so i think it’s cool either way
it's been years since i've been listening to this band and DGD survived my phases and continue to be a favorite far in my life. i literally still gush hearing the band name and get goosebumps like it's my first time listening to them again.
i had an admirer pretend they liked DGD to get with me, then they actually became a huge fan lol.
I can't be the only one who feels like Kurt's voice and Direction was the best DGD era
Probably not no. Personally i’ve kinda just grown to love each era for what it is and enjoyed the new stuff they’ve been putting out
I love eacc era but Kurt gave me good Stoney vibes I love it
Definitely not!
I went to the reunion concert with all 3 clean vocalist on my birthday in 2016. It was my favorite concert I've ever attended.
Oh yeah I'm sure that was absolutely incredible
Just got a bit more complicated
i love your voice and the personality and emotion you put into this. :)
I’m just gonna say it Kurt Travis was under appreciated... I truly believe his music was more memorable than Johnny
Hearing you gush about this band amongst all the info made this hella relatable since I'm also a long time fan of this band and all the other closely associated bands. LP2 is sick af. And yes, theneedledrop can suck my ass when it comes to his opinions on this band. This was such a good vid.
Thanks, i appreciate it! and yeah sometimes fantano makes me not so happy
PAIN
Yep PAIN
Great breakdown of DGD history, my nephew introduced me to them a few years back and now I'm really digging Artificial Selection.
It’s definitely a great record, and i’m super excited for Afterburner to come out. Thanks for watching!
Subbed cuz this video and recent appreciation of the band cuz Son of Robot, imma go and try out there old stuff.
As i get more time this week i definitely will. Also, the lyrics “crawling in my skin” may help jog your memory.
Gladly was your 420th like on your video and I’m so stoked :)
Great video!!!!!
i have achieved peak meme
