Feud Nation I love Mario Kart. But for some reason I can't get into this game. I like the special items, two character racing mechanics, and tracks. But the actual gameplay and driving/drifting is way too different in my opinion.
Alex Bianchi The drifting is fantastic! I love how you had to tape the stick additional times to get the blue flame (which then gave a speed burst upon release). Honestly though, I played the shit out of this against my brother. We would race every track of the tour and keep a running tally of the victories each had. If you can find someone to challenge, it becomes so much more enjoyable.
You mentioned Pinkerton on repeat playing Mario World. I remember playing Dude Ranch on repeat playing that game. Every time "Dammit" shows up on shuffle, images of the Fortress levels and the Forgotten Forest come to mind. So vivid.

Here's the thing about Uncharted 3, it's a wonderful game but the issues that dips it below Among Thieves is that for one the shooting mechanics were changed so for people who were veterans of the franchise including myself who got the game day one were completely threw off and wondering why it was so difficult to get headshots all of a sudden. Secondly, at the game's half point the plot pretty much goes away and were left to jump through set piece after set piece without the story conviction that Naughty Dog are known for. It didn't help when most of those set pieces were ruined by the game trailers, the burning château, the sinking ship, the plane, the desert walk were all known prior to launch which meant less surprises.

Loved the language in this re: "ownership" in terms of having "that game" be yours. Like FF7 was my first RPG. It was the first Final Fantasy I played over and over and fell in love with. It seems like people either LOVE it or think it's overrated but I'll never forget it. As for Peacewalker, again, my first REAL metal gear experience. I stumbled through MGS1 as a kid but didn't grasp it. Mega64 constantly talking Metal Gear got me curious and instead of waiting for the HD collection to drop I picked up Peacewalker and became obsessed. The bite size missions, the base building, the micro managing -- so much of it was satisfying and I think Greg really killed it with his description of it. I feel that 100%.

I'm one of those who thinks Uncharted 2 is better than 3. 3 had this really cool relationship between Drake and Sully, but for me that was it. Greg, even Uncharted 3 follows the path of 2: Elena with a 4by4 helps Nate, Nate jumps into a big moving veichle, Nate is all alone and lost, Nate get rescued by a native guy, do you see a pattern here? They did the same things, they just changed Tenzin with Salim (and everybody knows Tenzin is the coolest videogame character ever). Uncharted 3 had the supernatural element (just like 1 and 2), Uncharted 3 had a main character you thought was dead (like Uncharetd 2). Then Uncharted 3 has some huge plot holes, underdeveloped characters (where the hell are Chloe and Charlie Cutter at the end?) and unexpressed great ideas (the english secret society). Pacing: U3 was really slow for the first half and then i becomes a shooter at the end, I never thought I would have said it, but at the end I was a little bored playing Drake's Deception. Thankfully it lasts 2 or 3 hours less than 2 (wich is usually considered a con). Uncharted 3 is still a great game I think, one of the best of the past genartion but it's not as good as 2 in my opinion. Among Thieves is my favourite game of all time right after The Last of Us, so don't offend my boy! Just kidding, obviously :)
Okay, Uncharted 3 was my favorite game of all time before TLOU's release. However, you simply cannot deny that Uncharted 2 does a lot of things better than Uncharted 3. First of all, story itself is subjective but Uncharted 2's story mode flows way better than Uncharted 3's. In Uncharted 2, the only part where they teleport from one place to another is from Borneo to Nepal. After that, every part seamlessly leads into the next one. In Uncharted 3, they teleport from London to Paris to Syria to where Elena is. The worst thing is how the ship wrecks and Drake is somehow brought back to where Elena was by the waves. Then there's the fact that UC3's set pieces felt like copies of UC2's set pieces. The train crashed so the plane crashed. Nate jumped from truck to truck. Now he jumps from truck to horse to truck. Shambala ended up collapsing so Iram of the Pillars ends up collapsig. And how the hell does Talbot not die/get here/etc. I prefer Uncharted 3 because of the focus on Nate's relationship with Sully and the gameplay advancements but let's not act like it's clearly better than Uncharted 2 because it really isn't.
TMose That's all an opinion though. I think Uncharted 3 has much better set pieces than Uncharted 2. The plane crash really isn't that similar to the train scene at all. Yes, the collapsing locations and jumping between vehicles was copied, that is true. But I thought scenes with the spiders, escaping the burning building, and the sinking ship were all fantastic scenes that made the game better than its predecessor.
TMose I loved both games. However, I find Uncharted 3 heads and shoulders better than 2. 3 was like crack or a super addictive tv show. Couldn't stop playing. I also liked how they ditched the super natural aspects of the first two. I thought those were the obvious weak points of 1 and 2. Just took me out of the story.
Zombie Ducklings I didn't mean to say the the plane crash was exactly like the train crash. I just meant that they both had big vehicles that crashed. Otherwise the plane crash was one of my favorite moments in all of fiction. I also mentioned the horse riding sequence but that is literally my favorite set-piece of the whole franchise due to the fact that we were doing it to rescue Sully, jumping from horse to trucks in order to take out the enemies was epic and the scenery was simply gorgeous (GOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PS4 REMASTER!!!!). The burning chateau is IMO the best level in the franchise due to the perfect pacing it had with a nice mix of gunplay, melee, puzzles and exploration. That level, to me, is what perfectly encapsulates what Uncharted is. I didn't mean to sound to negative on Uncharted 3. I did say that it was my favorite game of all time until TLOU but I'm sorry if I seemed too down on it.
Grant Benson Yeah it was very interesting how the Djinn enemies turned out to be psychological. It really fit well with the whole theme of the game. I loved Uncharted 3 so much I beat it in a single day...then I started a playthrough the day after (and beat it again the following day).

Uncharted 2: A globetrotting story about the search for a mythical city, lost deep within a dangerous environment (snow/mountains). Along the way, Nate teams up with a native who aids him in his quest (Tenzin). This city is guarded by a 'monster' of sorts. At the end of the game, the city is destroyed and the main villain dies within it (Lazarevic). Uncharted 3: A globetrotting story about the search for a mythical city, lost deep within a dangerous environment (sand/desert). Along the way, Nate teams up with a native who aids him in his quest (Salim). This city is guarded by a 'monster' of sorts. At the end of the game, the city is destroyed and the main villain dies within it (Marlowe/Talbot). Uncharted 1: A non globe trotting game about the search for some lost gold/treasure. Nate does not team up with a native. The main villain dies on a boat. I'll give you the supernatural entity, although it's not guarding anything. To further reinforce my point, I simply copy/pasted the U2 paragraph and changed a few words for the U3 one. Honestly Greg, I think you played U3, got caught up in the epic set pieces and the thrill of it all, gave it a 10, and now have to defend it because of the score you gave it. Even the gunplay is weaker in the third game, and the multiplayer isn't as good.

Loved the language in this re: "ownership" in terms of having "that game" be yours. Like FF7 was my first RPG. It was the first Final Fantasy I played over and over and fell in love with. It seems like people either LOVE it or think it's overrated but I'll never forget it.
As for Peacewalker, again, my first REAL metal gear experience. I stumbled through MGS1 as a kid but didn't grasp it. Mega64 constantly talking Metal Gear got me curious and instead of waiting for the HD collection to drop I picked up Peacewalker and became obsessed. The bite size missions, the base building, the micro managing -- so much of it was satisfying and I think Greg really killed it with his description of it. I feel that 100%.
For now, these games were most memorable to me at the time I played it.

The real abomination, Colin & Greg, is if we're talking about multiplayer games on GameCube, why is there no mention of Melee? The best multiplayer game on GameCube, arguably the best GameCube game, and one of the best fighters ever.
I'm one of those who thinks Uncharted 2 is better than 3. 3 had this really cool relationship between Drake and Sully, but for me that was it. Greg, even Uncharted 3 follows the path of 2: Elena with a 4by4 helps Nate, Nate jumps into a big moving veichle, Nate is all alone and lost, Nate get rescued by a native guy, do you see a pattern here? They did the same things, they just changed Tenzin with Salim (and everybody knows Tenzin is the coolest videogame character ever). Uncharted 3 had the supernatural element (just like 1 and 2), Uncharted 3 had a main character you thought was dead (like Uncharetd 2).
Then Uncharted 3 has some huge plot holes, underdeveloped characters (where the hell are Chloe and Charlie Cutter at the end?) and unexpressed great ideas (the english secret society).
Pacing: U3 was really slow for the first half and then i becomes a shooter at the end, I never thought I would have said it, but at the end I was a little bored playing Drake's Deception. Thankfully it lasts 2 or 3 hours less than 2 (wich is usually considered a con).
Uncharted 3 is still a great game I think, one of the best of the past genartion but it's not as good as 2 in my opinion.
Among Thieves is my favourite game of all time right after The Last of Us, so don't offend my boy! Just kidding, obviously :)

Okay, Uncharted 3 was my favorite game of all time before TLOU's release. However, you simply cannot deny that Uncharted 2 does a lot of things better than Uncharted 3. First of all, story itself is subjective but Uncharted 2's story mode flows way better than Uncharted 3's. In Uncharted 2, the only part where they teleport from one place to another is from Borneo to Nepal. After that, every part seamlessly leads into the next one. In Uncharted 3, they teleport from London to Paris to Syria to where Elena is. The worst thing is how the ship wrecks and Drake is somehow brought back to where Elena was by the waves. Then there's the fact that UC3's set pieces felt like copies of UC2's set pieces. The train crashed so the plane crashed. Nate jumped from truck to truck. Now he jumps from truck to horse to truck. Shambala ended up collapsing so Iram of the Pillars ends up collapsig. And how the hell does Talbot not die/get here/etc.
I prefer Uncharted 3 because of the focus on Nate's relationship with Sully and the gameplay advancements but let's not act like it's clearly better than Uncharted 2 because it really isn't.
TMose That's all an opinion though. I think Uncharted 3 has much better set pieces than Uncharted 2. The plane crash really isn't that similar to the train scene at all. Yes, the collapsing locations and jumping between vehicles was copied, that is true. But I thought scenes with the spiders, escaping the burning building, and the sinking ship were all fantastic scenes that made the game better than its predecessor.
TMose I loved both games. However, I find Uncharted 3 heads and shoulders better than 2. 3 was like crack or a super addictive tv show. Couldn't stop playing. I also liked how they ditched the super natural aspects of the first two. I thought those were the obvious weak points of 1 and 2. Just took me out of the story.
Zombie Ducklings Uncharted 3 is one of the very few games I've said "wow" during set pieces. I was totally blown away numerous times.
Zombie Ducklings I didn't mean to say the the plane crash was exactly like the train crash. I just meant that they both had big vehicles that crashed. Otherwise the plane crash was one of my favorite moments in all of fiction. I also mentioned the horse riding sequence but that is literally my favorite set-piece of the whole franchise due to the fact that we were doing it to rescue Sully, jumping from horse to trucks in order to take out the enemies was epic and the scenery was simply gorgeous (GOD I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PS4 REMASTER!!!!).
The burning chateau is IMO the best level in the franchise due to the perfect pacing it had with a nice mix of gunplay, melee, puzzles and exploration. That level, to me, is what perfectly encapsulates what Uncharted is.
I didn't mean to sound to negative on Uncharted 3. I did say that it was my favorite game of all time until TLOU but I'm sorry if I seemed too down on it.
Grant Benson Yeah it was very interesting how the Djinn enemies turned out to be psychological. It really fit well with the whole theme of the game. I loved Uncharted 3 so much I beat it in a single day...then I started a playthrough the day after (and beat it again the following day).
I'm extremely surprised Greg didn't even mention Persona 4 Golden even in his honorable mentions

Greg, WHAT are you talking about with Uncharted 2 being beat for beat Uncharted 1? You're defending Uncharted 3 when in fact that game is BEAT FOR BEAT Uncharted 2!

Uncharted 1: A non globe trotting game about the search for some lost gold/treasure. Nate does not team up with a native. The main villain dies on a boat. I'll give you the supernatural entity, although it's not guarding anything.
To further reinforce my point, I simply copy/pasted the U2 paragraph and changed a few words for the U3 one. Honestly Greg, I think you played U3, got caught up in the epic set pieces and the thrill of it all, gave it a 10, and now have to defend it because of the score you gave it. Even the gunplay is weaker in the third game, and the multiplayer isn't as good.
