This music is a major part of my 'Pursuit of Happiness'. GOOD GRIEF!
Discovered this music while in South Carolina….pretty cool actually.
Capital A-W-E-some! I've been playing since 1964, and Jim Kweskin was one of my earliest influences. Can't get enough of that jug band repertoire.
This song is by Lightnin' Hopkins originally though with different words. From th eLP "Blues in my bottle" and mighty fine it is too.
This was recorded in 1928 by Prince Albert Hunt's Texas Ramblers
Hopkin's version is fine, but "Prince" Albert Hunt made a recording of that song as early as 1928.
Club 47 1965 was my first experience with the Jug Band
Those were the days!
thanks for sharing! this was a great show. True variety.
Fantastic. Love it.
Tapping my toe ten seconds in :-)
Thats really tight !!
The song is by the Holy Modal Rounders, who, besides Kweskin had a huge influence on the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Fred Wilson the holy modal rounders just covered it, lovin spoonful do a good version as well. Where do any of the beatles or stones mention the rounders? Id be infinitely interested to see/read that, as they are a big influence on me as well
Actually I think they both got the song from a 1961 Lightnin' Hopkins LP with that title. Don't know where Lightnin' got it from..@@YellowChoklit
Let's hear it for the Melodica!!
I'd only heard the Lovin' Spoonful rendition with different lyrics.
They call it a "stopper"... but it ain't gonna stop me...
