I was in high school and saw David Bowie's stop in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. I was 19, had been listening to him and no one else for 3 years. His music, his persona - not only thrilled me but helped me with depression. Now, here he was in front of me. I couldn't believe it, and fought back tears. The Bewlay Brother, The Man Who Sold the World and...Ziggy. For a few moments, I actually had the audacity to feel a little disappointment that Earl Slick was not there. That was soon dispelled with the blistering introduction Stacy Heydon played for Station to Station. I have a CD recording from this tour, and cherish it immensely - particularly Mr. Heydon's playing on Station to Station. Exquisite. Thank you so very much for this video.
Strange, but after the awful news this morning, I came straight to this vid. David was really demanding to work for, but it produced stuff like this. He always found the most phenomenal people to work with. I've seen a million shows, but his will always be at the top of my faves. RIP Mr. Bowie. You've brought such great music to my life. "Here in the Moonlight,The Fabulous Moonlight."
I saw this turnee of 76 in Helsinki. One of the best I've ever seen. They started with the film Andalusian Dog projected in front of the stage, the screen lifted and the piece (TV5 ?) started.... Bowie was amazing but as you hear the guitarist was from heaven.
TVC15?? Nooo! Station To Station, always, at every gig........Stacey Headon was your guitarist from heaven........Un Chien Andalou; surrealism never bettered.
please tell him thank you for his performance on this tour, it is appreciated by all of us who saw these concerts had a lot of pressure of the great work Earl Slick did on this album
I saw him in march 76, Wash DC, my first concert. I was 14. I can remember buying Station to Station, playing the album for the first time like it was yesterday. Amazing.
dayuum! Kudos, Stacy Heydon and @GaryWhite for posting this gem. That's almost 6mins of guitar solo, and the band stay on point with the funk throughout. Serious !
I was watching the video of the Bowie SNL performance, and I didn't recognize the guitarist, so I did a search that led me here. Can't believe I'd never heard of Stacy Heydon before. That solo he plays on Stay is burning hot!
I was at 2 out of 3 of these shows at the L.A. Forum fucking brilliant, I have to say by the time I left the 2nd show my head was about to split, but well worth it, and I have seen every tour since then, oh yes I was at the "Diamond Dogs" show also in '74. I even saw the 2 Tin Machine tours in 89 & 91 brilliant. I will be 50 in Dec 07, and I am still a fan. rock on
"Just because I believe don't mean I don't think as well". Bowie was so good, wasn't he? Cracking set of films, by the way. Thanks. I can't believe this lp was out 32 years ago - I can still remember buying it!!
I am completely obsessed with this performance, I have watched it several times now. I even bought the record Station to Station mostly because of this and I absolutely love the record. And yet, this is just a rehearsal. I am starstruck and also very jealous to those who saw him live as Thin White Duke.
@@susannabonke8552 Same ... Bowie smart ... I think he preferred not to explain the horrible details of that period and "forgetting 1976" was the best way to keep others minding their own business. (I think)
Was it the Nassau Colosseum show? Possibly from NY/WNEW radio's King Biscuit Flower Hour? If so it would include the entire concert, solos, and Dennis Davis long drum solo - I remember, being at the Nassau Colosseum concert, great show.
Stacey Heydon a Toronto boy,and we were there, would not trade these memories for a million. Dave is in town, his fave city T.O. this very week, we have spotted him and Iman twice and the third time we went up to them and inquired he jkust said something 'might' be up! Awesome Dave we replied... Kick it kids..
I was so Lucky enough to see This show, 2 nights @ The Spectrum in Philadelphia. I Was Blown Away Y'all. Station To Station Live shows should have been recorded & released as a Live Bowie release. This touring ensamble was Fantastic. Get the feeling I still love watching this ?
This goes to show that this wonderfully talented man felt and acted every note. Lives on in our hearts....see you on the other side sweet prince. If heaven has a rock/pop band it's gotta be a hell (haha) of a place to go :)
I heard from a friend says Bowie is very thin in duke era, also known for it's his best vocal in mid-70s. I can't notice such things when I listening to the album Station To Station.
I always loved how Heydon played on this tour. Pity he didn't tour more often with Bowie. Classic is also his opening solo at Nassau Coliseum as Bowie showed on stage very late. Please update the links as not all work
@@philbee56 Dude: Indeed that makes this version so rare. read 'The concert tapes'. He came late on stage as he was using heavily this tour. He came on stage much later than at the other venues. You don't get my point www.amazon.com/David-Bowie-Pimm-Jal-Parra/dp/909001005X You are the idiot here
*sigh* So jealous... well, maybe I should be happy about seeing him live at least once. It is such a shame that Station to Station tour wasn't filmed. These are the only proper films I've seen of him as Thin White Duke.
Probably cause david waz passing over his worse addiction moment.his voice was amazing but in some moments he use to lost the lyrics of his own songs and he usually got go read the lyrics on the floor.you can see it on the queen bitch rebel rebel reherarsal as so the five years one. Still his voice was on top and the sound was better thsn the diamond dogs tour

+visionthing666 - correctly observed about the North acrylic drums. Revolutionary at the time, sadly they never really took off, and weren't sturdy enough for touring, apparently. I think Belew stepped into the tour after this; definitely by the time his Stage tour hit Japan in '78
Dennis Davis (RIP) was on drums/percussion, in the Nassau Colosseum concert in 76. He had a long solo which aired on WNEW FM N.Y. radios King Biscuit Flower Hour a few days (weeks?) after the concert. The broadcast was the entire concert, so amazing. Glad the guts of it are on CD's

This rendition of 'Word on a Wing' is so pure and beautiful, it gives me goosebumps. Even better than the album version!
Totally agree on it
And this is the *REHEARSAL*! Lord, have mercy! I'm so happy this exists, you have no idea. Solid gold.

"Stay" is so damn funky
STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. THE SHIT. REPEAT.
Very perceptive. He was going for the Issac Hayes thing from Shaft. I think he hit it!
His guitar solo is absolutely beyond.
oh, I love him so much. can watch his slow moves all day. I can see the music gettin' out of his chest. Oh my God, he's wonderful!
Word on a Wing is one if my favorite songs. His voice is incredible.
the riff that kicks off "Stay" ...jaw dropping !

Beautiful, beautiful song. Sung by a beautiful, beautiful man.
Long time Bowie fan, I somehow delayed my listening to this record...
Just did, and I'm still picking up the pieces of my jaw on the floor...
Word on a wing My favourite Bowie song..That guitarist wow..
I've been looking for this song.... It's magic... I kneel to you my dear friend and hero... See you in the stars
Thanks, Gary. There are many great songs. That said "Word on a Wing" is so touching, so beautiful.
what an incredible guitar solo on stay !!! AMAZING

From the days when everything seemed MAGIC!! Saw him during the 1976 tour in Rotterdam!! So exciting!

I saw him on this tour!!! He was (as always!) amazing! THANK YOU!
absolutely correct-This is the best touring band Bowie assembled that i have heard anyway
I had always assumed this was a "studio record"--but now obviously not--great vocals
You can tell cause carlos is out of tempo
Not remembering the recording. Don't quite believe it. Even when drugged up some memories stay. Amnesy occur when traumatised. Like being real down.

fabulous, i saw him live for the first time 2 years later on the Low/Heroes Tour, I didnt know footage like this existed great great stuff
I have a Vinyl bootleg of a New York show from this tour. What a band what a powerhouse performance it is. i will never tire of its brilliance

Walt Simonsen yes it is. First heard it in about 1981. Recording was brilliant. Went well with Hashish.
Thin White Duke was awesome. Elegance and decadence..

Oh my god, thats so incredible... oh Bowie

This is killer, man... tightest Bowie compositions and band of his whole career!!

Maybe the Goblin King?
