CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Patch (Robin Williams) passionately appeals to the Med Students and the Medical Board and is surprised by all the people he has helped.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The fact-based story of an unconventional physician who attempted to heal patients with laughter, based on his own book and mixing equal doses of scatological humor and pathos. Robin Williams stars as Hunter Adams, a troubled young man who commits himself to a mental institution in the late 1960s. His experiences there convince Adams to become a doctor, and he enrolls in medical school, where he is appalled at the cold, clinical professionalism that alienates patients from their caregivers. Determined to provide emotional and spiritual relief as well as medicine, Adams clowns around for his patients, getting to know them personally. Although his efforts seem to work wonders and the hospital nursing staff is grateful for the levity Adams provides, his methods alienate his uptight roommate Mitch (Philip Seymour Hoffman) as well as the staff and faculty of his school. Adams perseveres, however, even starting his own low-cost rural clinic called the Gesundheit Institute, and wooing a pretty fellow student, Carin (Monica Potter). Tragedy strikes, and Adams' career is put in jeopardy, forcing him to defend his style and philosophy before a board of jurists determined to bar him from practicing medicine. Patch Adams (1998) was produced by former M*A*S*H (1972-83) star Mike Farrell, who met the real-life Adams when the offbeat doctor served as an advisor to the actor's popular TV series.

Giving nurses their due is a huge deal. They truly are the backbone of medicine
Sure, but the Doctors are the brain of Medicine lol
The "I can't stay home, I am a nurse" is nauseating.
@@bryndrson8289 and believe me there have been countless cases where a doctor couldn't figure out what was ailing a patient for weeks, and a nurse figured it out in less than an hour. Give them the credit they deserve, sir. They earn it every day.
@@clockworkscholar66 no
@@Tpainactual yknow what that's fair
Tik Tok choreography videos in empty hospitals say otherwise.
You were a doctor-you treated our hearts. Thank you, Robin.
"A thorn that will not go away."
Robin you are always going to live through everyone's memories. You will never disappear from our hearts.
When those kids walk in the courtroom, and Patch sees them wearing their "red noses" and thanking him, I cry.
This particular part of this movie inspired me to become a doctor and eventually a medical professor. It truly does not lose its impact even after so many years :)

Just like House in House!
You sound like the kind of doctor every patient should have.
Robin was(god I hate saying that) one of the only actors that could break my heart with a single look in his serious roles just by looking in his eyes.
me too. I could not watch his movies for like 2 years. The night I found out he committed suicide, I was in Cancun. Long story short, I did not take the news well. :(
Robin Williams was the funniest Comedian I was so surprised when I found out hung him self
I remember the day the news hit, I saw it first on Facebook. My first thought was ‘so this is the new death hoax going around.’ My next one was ‘Oh Gods, please let it be a death hoax!’ 😭😭😭
@@fouxdefafa92 i did not take his death well too. There is so much more he could have done.
Same he was one of a kind R.I.P
He's so positive person! "I wanted to be a doctor to serve others". That's the essence of patient care! I wanted to be a nurse in order to the same purpose, and now I'm a nurse. Sometimes it's so demotivating to have so disillusioned doctors and nurses, my collegues, and be the only one, who still wants to remember her early aims: to serve others... I want to be like Patch Adams. Even if I could be alone, but still I could make patients laugh despite of nearing to death.
I love this movie!
the most unthankful job that doctors like to abuse. But right after us, nursing assistants who the nurses like to chew out because the doctor chewed them out!!
@ Agyagi : we need people like you. Please never quit
patch adams said the movie isn't an accurate representation of the facts or himself he's actually an extreamist communist and thats what leads him to doing what he does
My life until 3 years ago. I'm 58 now. I started as an EMT at 16. That's 42 years of medical care to the sick and injured. I told my last supervisor that I would work as long as "it was all about the patient, when it becomes all about the numbers/money... I'm gone" ... September 2016, the hospital instituted new policy (put in place by people who never laid a hand on a patient). I was gone by the end of the month. Remember, health care is ALL about the patient. 🙏.
Nursing home. Right side
Just started EMT training a couple weeks ago at 17, it’s great to know that there’s others as young and even younger who have joined.

RIP Robin. And you too Philip Seymore. You brought us more than you will ever know!
Great loss to the world..... Philip Seymore and Robin, greatly missed, if there's Heaven or Hell, I'd bet those in Hell can get your jokes.....
***** I cant tell if thats negative or positive but i prefer the optimistic view so, thanks for that. Im sure theyre both laughing in heaven
Tim Steinhoff well said
Seymour!
I met Dr Patch Adams at a Schizophrenia Society Conference hotel years ago. Robin’s Pizza store in East Toronto closed and the Williams pinball machines across the street are now out of service. The walk in clinics are closed. There are still free hospitality meals in East Toronto and free food banks at several churches.
This movie gets me teary.
It teaches how humanity must be above all things.
Billion thanks and Rest in Peace, Mr. Williams.
RIP Robin. Free spirits are impossible to control. They go all the way. You did as well. You made us laugh, you gave us joy. Thank you
One of the very few actors who can make you cry with both tears of sadness, and laughter.
Nurses are amazing and deserve so much praise. When I was in a mental institution due to depression, the nurses where available 24/7, they would give us our meds, check our vitals, look after us at night, and be there to lend an ear if we needed to talk about something. They don't get paid enough for all the work they do, but I still remember seeing so many of them arrive to work with a smile. I am eternally grateful for them because they helped save my life
how on earth can you not like this scene. It does not apply to doctors but to everybody who deals with human being
RIP Robin, thank you for the laughter and wisdom
Every medical student in school needs to watch this film, because God knows how many doctors lack compassion these days.
Probably Robin's best performance. He was amazing in everything he did.
You can't control the spirit of any person 🙏🏽
Communication is the gift that makes life livable
One of the best films Robun Wiillliams starred in. Thank you, sir.
Even if this wasn't entirely accurate to the true story, this was definitely a speech worth clapping for.
"One is glad to be of service".

It's sad seeing this scene and to know what happened to one of the greatest actors I have known it's a really shame we lost this man Robin Williams was a good man who suffered a lot he fought the good fight even though he lost. For that I respect him
This man have some of the best lines in movie history and always deliver
Such a beautiful soul.Who made the world laugh and cry.All the while struggling inside. He was taken way too early from this world💔
Robin Williams was an amazing human being. All in favor, say I!!

What a scene. Long shot with a lot of emotions. What a great actor, Mr. Williams. Unforgettable
Robin Williams… Rest In Peace… You were considered my ALL-TIME favorite actors… Goodbye. :'(
One of the favorite Movies with Robin Williams
Rip robin you will always be remembered
My favorite Robin Williams movie.
BBBYpsi I agree and also Aladdin , mrs doubtfire, jumanji and hook and also night at the museum
Absolutely love this movie...I miss you so much Robin
If you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. This movie is one of my favorites. Thanks Robin for all the laughs and all the happy thoughts.
Guess what, Katherine? Not everyone is a fan of this movie so get off your high horse. Hell, the REAL Patch Adams totally disliked this movie because it made him look foolish and unprofessional. Clowning around like a doofus is not how he operates. The ONLY reason I watch it is because of Bob Gunton.
I don't think he was the bad guy in this. I agree that Patch needed to get his shit together and do what he was told. He was annoying, sanctimonious and goofed off far too much.
+Vic Morrow Forever In My Heart Yeah, that was the only message Robin Williams' portrayal of Patch Adams gave, which is to forget all about your studies and just clown around in front of patients while attending med school. And that was a totally bad message he was giving to the audience in this movie.
AussieMan Awww....did I upset you? Get over yourself.
Oh, I will say whatever the hell I want about this sanctimonious movie. Don't like it? Tough shit!
Vic Morrow Forever In My Heart
I was just agreeing with you.
Robin's acting was from his heart. My favorite ones were Patch Adams, Awakenings and What Dreams May Come. 😥
they don't make films like they dam used to! This is too powerful always is and the heart of gold.
the speech hit him home and that what make that scene so real and pure ! he was not a doctor but when you read about R. william its cleary stated that he was alway trying to help !
Why cannot we see the whole film for free??.. it is beautiful en it has a wonderful message to the world of medicine.
You can, it is on Netflix, and you can watch that whole film in all its glory
robin... your memory will live on...
Here's what a 'vocation' is.. truly great
part 8 and 9 made me shed a tear :< robin williams, you are one great actor who evokes my feelings in just 5-10min. bless your soul
Damn, this sounds so recognizable. I''m learning to be a social worker. School asks me for writing reports, Make activity plans and learn theories, but the only thing I want to do is literally help people, guide them in their life and to be just around and available for them to go trough life and understand it. My biggest dream is; 1 day to understand the mind of the mentally ill and in that way guide them even better and further. I don't feel any other purpose in life that is of a greater meaning.
Some people get to choose a profession, in my case the profession chose me.
Cris Hofer i thought i was the only one!
Taylor TV please, share your ideas. Perhaps we can learn from eachother...
All the best and good luck
This scene make me cry 2:29 😢
Yeah I’m crying
Everyone really 💙d you Robin!!! You may be gone physically but you will forever live on
A great I Am Spartacus moment in a memorable movie. RIP Robin and Philip.
both my parents are doctors and i am a lawyer. but my maternal grandparents died and so did my mother even before i got my license. i took for neglect my grandfather even during his illness since i had to study and survive in class and exams til one day he just died and i still had to prepare for my evening class that day. he visited me in my dreams and reminded me to take care of my grandma while he was away and i did. ever since then i promised myself to always give company to the elderly because while their children and family are having their lives, they themselves are just left alone and are mostly visited when they're sick or dead already. I felt useless tbh, with all the legal knowledge i had, it didn't help prolong the lives of my loved ones especially me mama. i come from a family of doctors and engineers and a few businessmen but only me and my gramps were in the legal profession and i felt alone when he passed cause only he could relate to what i went through. i really wanted to be a nurse or doctor but i'm older and i'm tired and have bills to pay now and cannot afford to change profession. i wish i became a doctor instead of a lawyer but maybe i was destined to be a lawyer because we have legal problems in the family and maybe aiding my sibling's and father's pain be solved may give me atleast the heart of the doctor i always wanted and inherited from my parents. they had the reputation and love of everybody that i wish i could attain one day.. someday soon i hope.
RIP ROBIN
RIP ROBIN WILLIAMS
*R.I.P Robin Williams* One as his best movies, going to soon! He will always be that thorn, never forgotten!
Dammit....ninjas slicing onions near me again. (sniffle)
Nothing wrong about that mate. By the way, I think I am dealing with same situation here. :)
.....but this time i'd be fine bawling my eyes out 😥
Same thing here!
damnit, i knew this would make me cry, i still bloody watched it
2:56 i cried every single time i saw all those red noses come up and Patch smiled. 😭😭
And the music ... 😭
Every 🌹 has a thorn. Goodbye Mr. Williams.
Robin is the greatest funny man of all time
I havn’t even seen the movie but this scene got me in tears
It's such a shame that Robin Williams killed himself because he was so talented 😇🙏🏽
It's not so bad, last I heard he was having a great time chatting with Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin.
Heaven became alot funnier and happier because Robin Williams walked through the gate. Rest In Peace 🕊️ Sweet Prince, may flights of Angels carry thee to thy rest. 💜
I saw Doug Walker's review of this, and I while I do agree with him on a majority of points he makes about Patch's actions and the general tone of the movie…I still have a bit of heart for the movie.
For one thing, its ultimate message is maintaining the strong connections you have with people in spite of the pain and differences which isolate you at times, and I think this movie shows the pros and cons. On one hand, you do have the (made up) account of someone who appeals to them only to murder a person very close to the protagonist. On the other hand, you have a perspective which seeks to make people happy, even if it's indulging their silliest requests (the noodle pool lady) or putting up with their constant rejections of you.
With that said, if it wanted to be more poignant, I think an honest account of the male best friend who died, less insensitive material (Beanie, interrupting the students' test, and making the family get out when the father's on his deathbed), and a less black/white script would've helped.
Steve Oedekerk's script isn't perfect, but its best moments are when it's talking about the emotions of the main characters instead of the "big bad establishment" plot device.
Then again it's still cliche as hell, I heard Robin Williams himself regretted doing this movie, which is saying something.
+Billy Barnett He probably agreed with the real Patch Adams with how it portrayed him.
I'm a bit surprised that Movie Clips didn't put the final board outcome on here, to me, it's the best part... "Excessive Happiness!" Robin Williams gave us just that... :o)
O doctor, my doctor!
Someone is cutting onions again...damned ninjas...
The world truly lost one of the greats, Rest in peace Robin Williams 😢😢😢
Hollywood got it all wrong. This man deserved an award for this movie. A true talent on the screen. It's one of very few actors who are no longer with us that brings me to tears every time I see scenes like this. Robin Williams (I hope) will continue to eternally live on in our lives with his movies like this.
If you ever get to go to Patch Adams home, the "Geshundheit Institute", you will begin to understand what he means about every resident there being both a patient and a doctor. Some of my best friends (who later become a doctor and nurse couple) had spent happy times studying there, and they brought that attitude home with them into their own practices and home.
Goodbye Robin Williams (Mrs. Doubtfire)
Robin Williams was great in this movie and his performance in ‘Bicentennial Man’ and ‘Awakenings’ are also quite simple and beautiful.
I wanna be patch Adams one day do pray for me to become one amen
How he can make me laugh and crying at the same time
Loved this part of the film 🙏🏽♥️🙏🏽♥️
I miss Robin Williams 😭
Why cant we have movies like this anymore, if you grew up in the 90s you will know the impact on some of the movies, the music and medias
God Bless you Robin
Emotion in his acting.
dude..plz stop cutting the scenes right in the middle of it -_-.
I totally agree. Cutting the last part of this beaitiful scene is not good. I bet that is the reason of those Dislikes.
My job wasn't be a nurse or a doctor but to be a mother my kids made me a mum. Thanks guys
R.I.P Robin Williams you are the best
I miss this guy so much
Damn you Robin, why you gotta always make me cry?

Robin Williams. That name cured more people than any doctor ever did. We’ll see again soon my friend.
The music just fits in perfectly with the childrens' appearance. Especially when they put on their clown noses.
