    Most GDI Exhaust Temperature Sensors have two terminals. It is important to remember that this sensor is connected in series with an E C M internal resistor. The ECM microprocessor takes the actual signal at the middle of the voltage divider network or between the sensor and internal resistor. This is important to know for two reasons.
    One, if the sensor is disconnected and the signal wire is probed, you should see 5 volts, like any other sensor. But, if a load, such as another resistor or a test light is used to drop the voltage down and no change is seen, it means the ECM internal resistor is shorted, and the ECM should be replaced.
    On this sensor, the ECM provides 5 volts, through the internal resistor. Don't worry about shorting this circuit to ground, the 5 volt reference voltage regulator is protected internally. Do not use a power probe on any computer circuit, however, contrary to what most theoretical instructors say, a test light is fine to be used with this circuit, if connected to ground.     Yes, lots of trainers discourage the use of a TL without knowing why. They were just taught that way theoretically. The power probe is a definite NO. The reason is that the current load is much greater and will blow a circuit easily. The TL (non LED) will limit draw to 300mA max. There are circuit where the TL is useless. Thanks for posting.

    Yes, that is correct, but the idea here is to short out the Temp-Sensor 5 volt reference using the TL. A TPS or MAP 5 volt ref. is different. On a temp sensor the ref. signal gets DROPPED down because it's in SERIES with another ECM internal resistor. It is also possible to do the same with Hall-Effect CRK and CAM sensor by shorting the signal voltage to check for an ECM response. THanks for posting.

    I think a video showing where a low load led light where applicable, a 300 ma test light, and a load circuit needed for some tests, with examples would be grate

    Hi,and great video.i have a question for u though.i have 2 egt on my astra 1.7dtj , both are showing max temp 1230c in the dpf and 680c in the cat .i ran all your tests here,everything looks perfect,also both egt are new but still i have max temp on both .. removing them shows 5v,plugged 1.4 ish volts and the temps never change.... any suggestions? Thanks

    What's the role of the harness continuity wire ?!
    It didn't react to the sonor test on the multimeter nor does respond to the lamp test !
    Please help.
