    I love the old E and F unit EMDs. I used to see F7s on L & N freights through Springfield TN on the Henderson Sub of the Evansville Division.when I was a boy. It was almost as good as seeing a steam locomotive ( which were all gone by the time I was born )

      Makes me wish I was around back in those days. I just wish I had the chance to see at least *one* CI&L or L&N locomotive that was actually owned by them, and not a heritage railroad. To see them in their natural, hard working state.
      Not far from there. 🙂

      @@Sparky-js5xz they were beautiful locomotives and that's for sure. I loved the times on late summer evenings when I would hang around the old depot to listen to the GP7s and 9s idling and would walk the four blocks on summer days to listen to them switching cars out (when Springfield had a 3 track siding with a lumber yard and coal yard, along with a small grain elevator on Cheatham Street) I loved to hear the blower whine ramp up and drop off when they would throttle down, it sounded like the locomotive was blowing of a huge sigh, AWWWWWWWW,. Pure symphony to a young railfan wishing to be a railroad man. Saw my first Alco at that depot. An RS11 in L&N livery. Beautiful in its own right and so rugged and raliroady looking

      Yes and before L&N took over in Evansville the original CE&I

      @@truckerkevthepaidtourist Yes Sir, my time was in the late 60s but I did see the cars, and a few Locomotives in C&EI livery. Not long in my day before Family Lines came to be with L&N or SCL patch outs. Colorful locomotives but still the Ol' Gray and Yellow was the best

      I rode the L & N Pan American in all blue with twin E6s in charge from Athens, Al. to Nashville,TN. on July 4, 1956, with my uncle John Morgan, who had just retired from L & N in 1955 with 30 years service. Our destination was Sulphur dell to see the old Southern League Nashville Vols play the Memphis Chick's a double header. What a beautiful memory! The Vols won both games.
      PS. We walked the 14 blocks from Union Station to the Cracker Box and back. Wore plum out!!

    Love this locomotive a lot. Got the Tuscan Red and Olive green models of it by Broadway Limited Imports in ho scale , with sound. Also have a Tuscan red model by Walthers Life Like trains, had to added sound to it, with the help of Hobby installer, at a hobby shop.

    I was a fireman on the Southern Crescent back before AMTRAC took over passenger service. We had four E8s on the train. I had to start the steam boilers and about every thirty or forty minutes blow the boilers down. One trip, going thru a heavy populated town, the rope that was used to blow the whistle broke. The engineer almost swallowed his cigar, jumped up out of his seat yelling the rope broke. I got out of my seat, reached up, got the broken rope attached to the horn and blowed for the crossings. After leaving the town I tied the rope back together. Never have forgotten the look on the engineers face. The green and white engines were great.

    Is this the solution to allowing it to run on the main? To have a switcher in tow?
    Glad to see one of the Juniata E8 units running since PTC was mandated.

    Is this the Beasley’s Point Line?? And where was it coming from, Pavonia to just Haddon Heights for a Christmas celebration??

    • @CSAORailfan
      @CSAORailfan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, this is the Conrail operated portion of the Beesleys Point Secondary. They came from shops located right across the Delair Bridge in Philadelphia and came through Camden. Only went as far as Haddon Heights for the event.

    How big is the approach box that those signals were going for so long?

    • @truckerkevthepaidtourist
      @truckerkevthepaidtourist 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are old signals
      Not upgraded with newest computer controls or electronics

      Heads up went around for this move in some local region railroad Facebook groups. This was the first time they ran one of the E8s down here in probably over 10 years.

    Good old E units. They are operational, they just dont have PTC installed at the moment.

    • @NCXDesigns
      @NCXDesigns 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to Mr Levin they aren’t going to either. He doesn’t want to make all those modifications and spend millions to do it when other locomotives need saving. He is investing in PRR 1361 as a result. He re-kickstarted the effort to get her rebuilt.

      So they only get taken out for excursions on occasion.

    • @billsargent3407

      Not entirely true, NS and CSX share Conrail Shared Assets Operations , reporting marks CSAO, which handles local and switching for about 1200 miles of track

    • @Jams27
      @Jams27 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's owned by a former Conrail employee

    • @ADIX2400
      @ADIX2400 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Conrail is no longer a Class 1 railroad but they still exist as the Conrail shared assets operations, a contract local carrier and switching company.
