    A few months ago I picked up a bb435 , I went to buy a bb735 but the only one available was the black "stealth" version which had a juvenile look about it , black tuning keys are a bit much . I did play both and although not wanting to buy a cheap bass it seemed like the 435 had a bit more vintage vibe to it although had the 735 been in a sunburst I would have opted for it anyway . I was given my first bass in 1965 and have collected all of the desirables but the last few weeks I've camped out with the 435 . It is a ridiculously good deal for a youngster and I doubt that any old dog would have any complaints . I replaced the scratch plate and went to GHS Precision steels mediums , seriously good choice , solid B . A real outstanding machine for the $$ , Fender couldn't touch it

      Yeah, even I gotta admit Fender's been overpricing their basses quite a bit in recent years. They could stand to learn A LOT from Yamaha in terms of how to successfully balance quality and budget. Their MIM Player Series basses, for instance, should really be priced between the Yamaha BB400 series and their own sorely underappreciated Squier "Classic Vibes" line. Matter of fact, their American Performer series of P-Basses offer the same basic traits as the BB434s...except they're more than DOUBLE the price by comparison (lol:::sigh:::)!!! Sheesh, and I thought Gibson was bad when it came to marketing these days...

    I have the BB735A... it's a beast. Passive it sounds great. I would only use the active Eq for slap bass or some really deep lows for reggae or RnB..it really makes a difference with the eq. Other than that....it's Passive for me! running to to Mesa D800 bass preamp Di.

    BB735 just sounded really professional, there was something about the sound that appealed to me way more than BB435. While 435 is a phenomenal bang for your bucks and sounds very good, it's still lacking a bit of what his big brother's got in abundance.

    This video is what I’ve been looking for! Thank you. I have been trying to decide between these two. The V7 pickups on the 735A sound smoother and appear to have more presence and warmth in the midrange. It could be my speakers.... Either way, I think they sound significantly different. The V5’s in the 435 just don’t sound the same.

    • @rafsnchz
      @rafsnchz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Absolutely! I mean BB400 is good bass for the money, but even thru my crappy laptop speakers I can hear that BB700 sound way better, it got all the premium features that Japanese BB has, but it is just made in Indonesia and it doesn't matter, I mean quality control is insane on those basses, i think that BB700 is the best model in new range, because of active preamp which you can bypass, a real work horse. I hate to say it but it blows away my Fender PJ Bass, maybe not sound wise, because sound difference is not that big, both sound good enough to be used on records and live, but in terms of quality/playability.

    • @marike1100
      @marike1100 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      On my Audio Technica M40x headphones, the sound difference between these two basses is negligible. The BB735A sounds a bit smoother mostly because of less string noise vs the BB435. Superb basses, both great values.

      The difference in sound is very minimal but still recognizable. It’s like comparing an MP3 (320 kbps) to a FLAC file. Not an “incredible difference” that’s BS. What separates the 700 series from the 400 series are the features and electronics.

    i cannot hear any real difference. I bought a 434 in black with the maple fretboard and i just love it. And I'm going to buy another one with the rosewood fretboard just for shits and giggles and because i love these basses that much. And i have an older 414 in rasberry red and I'm hanging on to that forever too. Before i bought the 434 i had originally bought a player series fender jazz in white. I took it back to the shop the next day as it was a dog of a guitar..dead spots everywhere. So i bought the 434 instead. And let me tell you..there is no comparison. My 434 runs rings around the fender and then some!
    I would not buy a 734a even know it costs only $100 more here in Australia. I just don't like active basses. I like things nice and simple. And if i need to boost or cut a frequency, i just go to my amp. But i never really need to do that with my BB's. The sound great as is. I just EQ my amp according to the room I'm playing in when we do sound checks and thats about it. And i always get compliments on how warm and fat my tone is. What more could i ask for. These basses do everything i want and feel so nice to play. And you don't need to be rich to buy one!
    If i ever have enough dollars one day..i will not hesitate to buy a Japanese made pro series BB too. That would be a dream come true for me!

    • @cristianmedico2476
      @cristianmedico2476 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is , the 434 has a bit raised the brights , I would have bought that one too. But I'm pretty sure you can get similar sound with the 7 plus have more options down your fingers and less noise by being active.

      I have sold my P Bass and Jazz Bass in winter and now i own TRBX305. Also i am looking for BB435 for its killing passive tone. I own both Yamaha and Fenders simultaneously but the reason i sold Last ones - after lightweight ergonomic shape of TRBX i hurt myself trying to play old school jazz bass... It feels like a wooden brick after i play Yamaha for a week or so)) Sound of BB is so natural, amazing and has some extra deep clarity of passive bass that i'll think i will pick up it soon too))) Also if is so cool that u get 2 instuments and 2 daily options for the price of one Fender bass)

      Interesting observation despite 434 bridge having an offset for low B. Yamaha website says the 735A does not have the offset but that bridge has brass saddles (like the Pro series) for deeper low-end and steel plate for brighter tone.

    The BB735 is better bass than the BB434 (Isn’t it obvious?)
    But when it comes to sound (on this video), both sound similar in passive mode. The BB735 sounds a little bit brighter with more detail, but the difference is so minimal, that I wouldn’t consider it relevant.

      ChanceC5 I don't own one, but the specs show the necks to be the same (5pc mahogany/maple) and the bodies are a preference matter between the BB435 (solid alder) and the BB735A (Alder/Maple/Alder). The cost difference between the two is in the electronics.

      The main difference between 435 and 735 is the electronics. 735 has the electronics of their TRBX500/600 with active-passive switch. I personally own one and its good if you play different genres. But for the price difference between the 2 models, Id save my bucks for the 435. It'll give you the same satisfaction playability-wise. But for versatility, 735.

    Can anyone comment on the difference between string tension and/or playability given that the 734/5 has a string through body? I want to know if this is any significant gamechanger. I would replace the stock bridge on the 434 anyway. Also, they have different nuts ( :D ), but this probably doesn't make a huge difference.

      They both have through body I think.

  • @PeekaPeep

    Thought I was gonna clearly settle for the Yamaha BB434 (Fender's Player/Performer Series just can't compete with Yamaha's most recent BB line price-wise unless they start marking down accordingly like they should've done already, lol), but considering its traditional yet unique body shape I'm wondering if I ought to give the 5-string variant a go. In terms of the 735A/435 comparison, I'm not really much for active electronics so the 435 is the one I'm gonna wind up gravitating towards. I'm an old-school passive player, anyway. Both are truly exceptional quality basses that will satisfy just about any discerning taste at a more-than-reasonable price.

      the 735A has the best value of the entire new schol BB series with their best pickups, saddle, and board combination. Great value. The pickups on the 434/5 are ok, but they're onlly V5's while this uses V7's
