Looks freaking cold. Although if it's just snow and not rain, all good. It's staring to cool down here in Australia, looking forward to a nice cool spell, but nothin like you guys get!
Loved the intro to this video...very professional look and feel, with great sound and quality picture! I like how you label your lures as "Weapons". haha Your knowledge of all aspects of this sport is intensive and in-depth, which goes to show...You're Good At What You Love!. Always enjoy your vids. Thumbs Up!
You are right about the cruising pattern in the mornings and afternoons but you have to remember bass are not as fast as shad so they will stage up and wait for the schools of shad to come into a favorable position for them to ambush because they instinctively preserve as much calories as possible and will not expend more energy then they get from the food source. Find a point or an abnormality in current or pot hole and you can consistently catch fish when shad are in that area they will school and actively feed but as the shad move away they will retreat to the bottom and structure to conserve energy and this is when a chunky crawfish pattern is ever so valuable. Liking the videos, good luck.
Randomly stumbled to this video. From Morris, Illinois but just moved to Raleigh, NC for school. Been digging you and the goons videos lately, but always enjoyed the northern Illinois vids too! Good luck out there!
Wow the people in Northern Illinois are a tough breed. I am impressed with all of the fishermen out in the snow. The ice is still over 8" on my local pond.
The lakes are just starting to thaw out in upstate NY. It was in the low 40's this week so we are slowly progressing towards Spring, but as I am typing this...it's snowing on and off. lol
Hey man I've been watching a ton of videos from Mike (1rod1reelfishing), extrrmephillyfishing, and you and I have 1 big question. In all 4 seasons my local lake has algae and grass everywhere on the bottom and I mean it is very dense so how do you work a jerkbait or crank bait through without every cast all you pull up is algae?
Austin Guzman I tend to use casting reels when chucking heavier baits to getting longer casts; so lures like jigs, cranks, swimbaits, techniques like that I tend to stick to a casting reel. I use my spinning reel when finesse fishing with lighter lures like dropshots, wacky rigs, or even shaky heads. Hope this helps!
hey Jon i need some help. I'm fishing the Dupage river tomorrow for some early spring small mouths, what should i be looking at using this time of year in the slack waters right in the middle of downtown Naperville, I'm thinking small tube jigs, float and fly, and maybe some chatterbaits, or cranks, what do u recommend, not much of a river guy, especially this time of year. (Just hoping its not going to be cold muddy water)
Hey man! If I were you I'd focus on warm water and sunny shoreline. Pay close attention to depth and water temp. Look for tempts above 45 and throw spinnerbaits, chart. Black back cranks. DO NOT be afraid to throw tight agains cover, especially on the slack side of the structure because that's where most the fish will be. If that doesn't work, fish some rocky runs with weighted flukes off the bottom if you can find shallow water. Hope this helps man!
j0j0barz33 just got done painting 2 1.5's now on the drying wheel, clear coat will be done drying in the morning, i painted chart/moss green back, with Gold pearl over that moss green back, than went over the green with black splatter, did the belly florescent orange, All of this will be worth the time when i lose both baits in under 15 minutes, lol (going to bed)
thanks for asking this question i live in dupage county too and was trying to figure out what to do to get some early spring smallmouth action on the river
Charles Kinsman i got 2 good size smallies on Saturday on 1.5 custom painted crankbaits (above) and 2 other smaller ones after using a 3/16oz mushroom head jib, with a Z-man fattyz trailer working the slack waters just on the outside edge of the current, water was Super Muddy, and cold, went back Sunday and caught 4 small ones, and 2 rock bass, rock bass were on a float and fly, and the smallies were on a 1.0 crank bait.by strike-king (All crank bait bass had one hook of the back treble in the mouth, using a Dobyns 704 Champion with 10lb mono to keep the bait off the snags)
damn, i had no idea. that sucks, winter fishing, tho it can be slow, is one of my favorite times to fish, it always seems to be the most calm out, great video by the way!
I am 12 and love duck hunting on this lake, I have fished this lake before but never have caught anything. The duck hunting is really good because the ducks can sit in it without it freezing all year round And have nowhere else to go and btw don’t call duck hunting lame

That guy loves getting caught on that snag behind you lol, good video John.

I fished this lake after I saw this video. It's a Great Lake and has some big fish! You should make another video at this lake!!!
This was an awesome video, brother. One of your betters ones! Even though they're all great!
Much appreciated! Good fishin' to ya.
I was there just last week great video.
That Beat Intro is nice!!

Awesome video! Is that diesel spinning rod good? Such as durability and sensitivity?
Hey great video man! just wondering what camera equipment you use because its hard to video in the snow.
would you reccomend the lews american hero rod
Are those gloves warm? And what kind are they?
Have you heard anything about sunline model fc line?
Looks brutal, eek!

It's almost impossible to with those treble hooks
Work a lipless crank bait over the top of the grass and when ever you feel it hit grass rip it up to pop the grass off
What's your thoughts on the American hero rod? And u have the reel too? If so how u like that also
Get it
Editing on fleek... You use FCP?
Damn bass not open here till end of June. Great video
+chickenguru4 Thanks!
editing skills on fleek haha
Nice vid man. When would you use a spinning reel over a baitcaster or does it not matter please respond.

Thanks for the tip love your vids
58 degree water temps? Is that a power plant lake because that is warmer than here in alabama right now.
Yes, It is a heat discharged located in Illinois.

thanks man appreciate it! Were you fishing the west branch around naperville then?

+weqrfawe Nah because of duck season or something lame like that, even though duck season isn't even that long.
damn, i had no idea. that sucks, winter fishing, tho it can be slow, is one of my favorite times to fish, it always seems to be the most calm out, great video by the way!
