- A different kind of video from me today! If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen that I recently bought my first house, a 300 year old cottage in North West England. I wanted a cute place with character and I certainly found it! I've watched about 5000 of these house tour videos so it's exciting to finally have my own. As you'll see, there are plenty of jobs to do 😅 But I'm super happy to be here and ready to make a house a home.
I filmed this on my iPhone and something weird seems to have happened with the colours during the edit in Premiere, so if my face looks a weird colour, that's why (I hope).

CONGRATULATIONS Lily. What a gem you have found and bought. It is so adorable and watching you take us through your new 321 year old cottage was like watching a romance film. Absolutely lovely. Not having a separate shower is the norm for us in Canada but lots of people doing renovations break down a wall and add it. In the meantime, all you need is a shower curtain and a rod for it. The garden is amazing and I am confident that you will make it colorful and sweet. I can't wait to see your own personal changes put into it. Thank you for sharing.
Ah that is such a lovely thing to say, thank you so much! The space does have a romantic vibe (maybe not the bathroom 😅). I think we may end up with a temporary shower solution, depending when I manage to sort the bathroom out properly haha!
Congratulations on your beautiful cottage, Lily! It's lovely, and so is the garden. I look forward to seeing more of your cottage in the future ❤
Thank you! I’m sure it’ll feature lots on here - hopefully DIY projects in my future!
How exciting for you (I'm feeling excited for you!). Please keep us posted!
@@clairegasson4187 thank you so much! I sure will 😊
I'm so happy for you. What a cute house and THAT GARDEN!!! You're going to love it. I hope you show us an update once in a while. I love renovation shows too and can't wait to see what you do with it. Love the bedroom wallpaper and that sweater closet...glorious sweaters. Maybe someday you could line it with cedar. I'm sure you have so many ideas. ❤ from New York State.
Congratulations on your first house! So many nice surprises - all the natural light, the kitchen is so cute and functional, the spacious bedroom, and the wonderful garden. Wishing you many happy years in your home. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you! Honestly I was so happy when I first viewed it. Can't wait to make it my own!
What a beautiful little cottage - congratulations on your 1st home! 🍾
I was secretly hoping to see more of your cottage "in action" over here on YT since you shared pics on IG. So thanks for taking us on your house tour! 😊
Ah yay, glad I could deliver! House videos have kind of replaced my knitting podcast viewing these days 😅
Congratulations on your new home! Oh my goodness, you found a gem, and those windows are to die for! The house is lovely; take your time making it yours. I'm here for the knitting, travel, and house; it's all a part of who you are. ☺
I’m sure you can imagine how pleased I was when I first viewed it! Thank you for watching ❤
Congratulations on your first home Lily! I love the kitchen, it's narrow but very charming. The garden is an irresistible opportunity. I agree on the overgrown evergreens, they're pretty until they become overgrown beasts. I'd want anything that blooms to be fragrant, and to have as many blooming plants as possible. That's also good for pollinators too. Consider raised beds for the garden, and I'd raise them at least 3 feet or a meter as you brits say. I'd love to see the progress as you renovate and make it your own.
Natural white is a colour you could easily drench all the different rooms in. ❤
Gorgeous garden, I would invest in a shredder with all those trees then you can put the shreddings on the garden. The house is lovely too 🙂
What a beautiful house, you have some lovely ideas. I have done up several houses in the U.K. and I remember one person who saw one of the houses saying, “what have you bought this dump for? You are polishing the brasses on a sinking ship!!” When I had finished and sold it for a massive profit they weren’t so dismissive lol. The garden is beautiful too and I can’t wait to see what you do to it, I hope you post everything on TH-cam as I don’t subscribe to Instagram and I don’t want to miss anything.
Congratulations! I am not impressed with the carpeted bathroom with the toilet seat in front of the window, but everything else makes me green with envy. When I saw the garden I nearly fainted. You are a lucky lady, Lily. This home will inspire you to make some great designs which I am looking forward to knit. 🎉
@@creativian68 I do feel very lucky! And inspired to knit far more things than my hands will ever have time to make 🙈 The toilet under the window is a bit random but luckily the neighbours are quite far away and the blinds are in good working order haha!
Congratulations you found a treasure 🏚️🏡
@@MikiCrespo thank you! I became a Rightmove pro and it paid off 😅
You can get secondary glazing that consists of plastic track with glass sliding window panes that sit on the inside, the track is screwed to the window sill and top casement, maybe a cheaper option until you can sort your finances out, sometimes older houses throw up unexpected surprises that can be costly but need doing, so to keep a bit in reserve is prudent.
Consider a heating mat under your bedroom carpet, if even just in the area next to your bed and under a chair.
Congratulations! What a beautiful house and gem of a garden!! I love old houses (we’re also renovating, an old farmhouse in America) and love watching these types of videos as well. I’ll be excited to see your progress!
@@aneilaknits I’d love to see it, old farmhouses are beautiful!
Congratulations. Beautiful garden and your house is really lovely. Great find. I see a wonderful home with lots of light for knitting. Enjoy.
Congratulations you have purchased a little gem 😊
@@bevabberley1524 thank you! I’m so glad I found it!
Lily- what a lovely time in your life lies ahead.
So many memories to make while putting your personality in your first home.
Enjoy .🥂🧚♀️
Thank you! I think it will work so well with my style 🥰
Your new home is lovely! My boyfriend and I lived with a similar bathing situation for a while and we called it a “shower bath” 😊
@@Lenaireneart thank you! I think that’s the best term for it 😅
Love the home! I can't wait to see what you make of the cottage!
Congratulations 💖you are going to make this cottage look amazing 👍I love watching DIY’s and also love all your knitwear designs, so it’s a win win 🙊👍💖
@@lo_rain_knitwear ah I’m so glad, I love seeing all your knitwear creations too! I’m excited to turn my hand to a different creative project this time 😃
Congratulations. Beautiful garden and your house is really lovely. Great find. I see a wonderful home with lots of light for knitting. Enjoy. The chaise is a delight. ❤
Thank you! Light is such an important factor for me so you can imagine how happy I was when I first saw this dining room. 🥰 Very grateful the chaise was left for me!
Congratulations Lilly, you are going to have a wonderful place to sit and knit 😊
Thank you! The chaise in the dining room is such a perfect knitting spot 🥰
Thank you Lily for sharing this exciting journey with us. I am delighted you have found such a beautiful, cosy cottage with so much potential. I am excited to see the various stages. Love all your paint and wallpaper samples. Did you get these online as we are hoping to update our living room and I haven't been struck on paper in the high street DIY stores. I love the garden, it too has so much potential and you have great plans for it.
Enjoy the journey, there will be set backs and upsets but you are lucky to have found such a lovely place to make home. Thank you again for sharing. Happy planning and decorating (and of course knitting) 😊
Thank you for watching! I think I found a good one here 😁 Most of the samples were ordered online yes, although I ordered a few from independent decor shops. I found that once I started searching online, my algorithms started spamming me with sponsored ads (and knew my taste pretty well, to be fair 😅). I have a whole box full of samples now, as many offer your first 4 samples free or for very cheap!
There have been setbacks and upsets already - boring jobs involving drains and the roof and whatnot haha. But I knew this was bound to happen with something so old!
Thanks again!
What an adorable cottage and garden, so so much potential. Would you consider extending your "dinning room" to include the utility room, as in take down the wall between the rooms? I do love the carpet and pretty much everything. Thanks for taking us through and Im looking forward to seeing the attic :). I just loved this video. Congratulations! super excited for you.
Isn't it just! I was so excited when I found it.
The utility room isn't in a pretty state at the moment but it's been superrr useful to have a space for the washing machine, vacuum, drying rack, tools, and miscellaneous stuff that I don't want on show! You could join the rooms but I quite like being able to close the door and not see it 😅
I'll definitely make a whole video about the attic when the time comes!
Congratulations on purchasing your first home. It is very exciting to see your space being slowly transformed to what you invision. 300 years ago my country has not even existed, lol. I live in Canada. In my town there are some building who are “very historic” and they get to be around 100 years old.
Thank you! I'm hoping it'll be nice to look back on this video in a few years time and see how it's changed 🥰
Canada is just a baby! Haha. We probably do take our history for granted here! My house isn't even the oldest on the road, others are from the 1600s and the road was originally Roman.
Yay… I made my house for tall people too… not too high for is sell ever but so much better for all of us and because I have a physical limitation having most things higher up really helps… love your new cottage and garden… look forward to seeing how things come together and progress ❤❤❤
Exactly, not crazy high, but just right to suit you! Glad you were able to adapt your house to your needs! Oddly enough the stair handrail is super high here too - I didn't really notice it until a shorter friend visited 😅
It is huge and beautiful WIP. Good luck and I'm curious of the result ❤❤❤
@@karolinapuchalska9160 it sure is! Definitely won’t be an FO for quite some time 😅
You need a gateleg dining table. One with two fold down wings, with the middle portion of the table is shallow but long. Think like Ikea's Norden but a much lighter weight than the birch wood version.
That's exactly what I thought, then it'll fold away to pretty small but expand quite large! Undecided to go for a fairly modern one (I'm keen to introduce some modern elements) or find a cool vintage one secondhand. We shall see!
🎉Congratulations 🎊
@@annettemonty7350 thank you!
Oh Lily, it’s amazing!
I do love it!
I’ve been so excited for this! Thank you for sharing your house and congratulations on owning your house! I love the kitchen but im burning to ask, where is the refrigerator?!😂 the garden slay!
@@crochetcakes yayyy glad you like it! The fridge is to the left of the oven - it’s built in so camouflaged well 😅
Maybe you need to look for one of those tables that packs away into a coffee table size? Not sure what they are called. That way the long room could be multifunctional 😊
That's the plan I think! A gateleg / drop leaf table that folds down super small and opens out long and thin. If I can find the perfect one!
@@lilykatemakes i suppose it depends on the style you want. Some are really clever and you’d never know it was a big table folded away. Anyway you’ve bought a beautiful house and it looks like it’s going to be a wonderful home. Well done xx
congratulation, all the best to you
Thank you so much!
