Continental TSIO520 aircraft engine cutaway tour

A quick video this week showing the 'guts' of a Continental TSIO-520 aircraft engine. Disclaimer - I'm not a mechanic so I think the terminology I'm using is correct.

5:00 Perfect illustration why our engines have so much problems with valve guide wear. The rocker arms puts a side load on the valve stem every time it actuates. After 100h or service the guide is already bellmouthed.

Thanks so much for this education. My TSIO-520 is out of my T210 getting new seals and they found a lifter that needed to be replaced. This is a great resource. Showed my wife the lifter and how it operates. I have a RAM stc’d 310hp engine.

Pienso que el orificio que muestras al principio, sirve para ver la marca del punto muerto superior del pistón y así cuando ves la marca roja das un giro a la hélice pequeño y así sincronizas la chispa de la magneto.
( Para hacer esta prueba necesitas un pequeño aparato)

En el 6,34 cuando dices q controla el paso de la hélice, hay tienes el tornillo con el que al regular el paso de la hélice por cada vuelta al tornillo subes o bajas unas 30 rpm. Así cuando el motor va muy revolucionado o poco revolucionado hay puedes regular las rpm

Is there a way to remove the camshaft on these engines WITHOUT splitting the crankcase? TIA.

No, however you can pull/replace lifters.
