I had missed out on this great and thorough review, but I'm so glad I listened to it now! Just to address ONE of the many topics you touched on: I think it's possible for an idea-based ("philosophical") novel to still succeed as a work of literature, when the ideas/philosophies are being developed in the mind of developing characters, on the go, as opposed to a fully fleshed-out philosophical system existing beforehand in the mind of an all-knowing narrator. And it sounded like Heaven is such a work.
