Before the narration even started, I knew this would be a place that when I am back in San Antonio I will have to visit. Just by the visual of the store front, it screams good cooking and friendly people. Putting on my "To Do Texas" list.

Crazy how so many of us always say, "this reminds me of my mothers cooking". Mothers are the hand that rocks cradle!!

Growing up, my buddy and I would go eat at Taco Haven downtown, in the 80's. This was when it was one quarter the size it is now, the laundry mat across the street was buzzing with all manner of characters hanging out outside, and you weren't sure if you were going to get mugged that day, but man was the food ever worth it back then! lol They had one of the best carne guisadas in town. My second favorite place used to be Blanco Cafe on Blanco and Oblate. They used to serve the brisket tacos in town! For fajitas, before they got big, Taco Cabana used to be the go to for sizzling hot fajitas and cold margaritas. It's too bad what has become of them. They've lost their roots and reputation.
Places like Maria's need to be preserved and their traditions carried on. Most of all, they should be treasured. Next time I go back home, I'm going to Maria's.

My son and I ate there a week ago. We met a total stranger while waiting. We all sat together and all three of us had the Beef enchiladas, boy they were the best I ever had. We had a great meal and made a friend.

I ate at Maria's this week and had to share a table with a stranger. Maria asked me, "Where have you been?" They are a beautiful family and make amazing food. Try the puffchilada!

I've been living and working in the San Antonio area since 1997, and leave it to TCR to tell me about a place that I've never heard of before. I can't wait to try it.

Used to be a place like this in Pasadena, Tx many years ago named Bertha's . Great food, inexpensive, authentic Mexican, massive quantities. It was a converted residence building on Southmore St., an unlikely looking place for sure. Maybe people were afraid to go inside. Didn't stay open long, but Bertha sure could cook. I think she just wasn't making any money and went broke. Too much competition perhaps. People should give places like this a chance. Not every good cook has a million bucks to put into a fancy restaurant; lots of eye appeal but the food is not so good.

I don't remember the first guy seems his name was Ron and I think he was anchor at the local CBS station..that was many years ago..I have much love and respect for all the information I have been able to enjoy

There was ‘The Eyes Of Texas’ out of the Houston NBC affiliate. The show ran from ‘69-99’, Ron Stone took over after the show”s creator, Ray Miller retired in 1979. Not certain which was better, both were/are great.

My wife is from Serbia. She just got her citizenship a few months ago. Immigrants are the lifeblood of America. If you’re not Native American, you should know. They embrace the dream and work like crazy to make it real. How silly to say anything against anyone who embraces hard work and brings their heart and soul to this country. A wall? Why

It's on Nogalitos. This video really should have had Barbacoa Blues playing in the background. "I went down Nogalitos..... Looking for some barbacoa and Big Red" Y'all just gotta look up the rest of the song yourselves. Just like these little taco places, it's puro puro San Anto and quite possibly including Maria's specifically.

To be honest I don't like Texas but... It is because of the hate based politics going on . With that said I watch your videos and have a renewed faith in not only mankind but the people of Texas. Your videos shows the true culture of Texans and maybe one day soon that will be reflected in the State Capitol in Austin. Take care 🙂
