    Excellent tutorial. I like this system and am going to start using it after 40 years of doing it the traditional way. This ridgeline is much easier and faster. Thanks for sharing.

    Hey Daniel. Dang this is a champ set up. I’ve watched too many variations and this is the boss. I have the scrap wood for toggles and the weather is nice tomorrow and I can’t wait to put it together. Beyond excellent means it’s simple, fast and not magical. ******* love your channel.

    Very nice . Glade I ran across this video. What I love about bushcarft is how many ways there are to do something. There is no right and wrong it’s mostly what works best for me.
    That all said I really like how you did this. I see myself copying many of your ways.
    I really like the toggles. The more I see of them the more uses I can imagine. I wonder why we never used them in the boyscouts years ago. I remember making a safety line . We also used one in rangers for river crossings. It was basically a rope with a toggle on one end and a loop splice on the other. It was very useful but you don’t see it anymore.

      Thank You very much Richard, I'm glad you dropped by and left a comment. And yes your right big time, there are so many ways to do something that will give you the same end results. What works best under your circumstances with the items that you are carrying at that time is what's important. In the early 70s I was in the Canadian Boy Scouts for one summer, it was interesting but I was a little older than most so I joined up with the Sea Cadets and stayed with them for 4 years, this was where I learned most of my knots. Forgot LOTS! LOL If you want to read a few good books that are a little out dated, look up {Scout Field Book Boy Scout of America and Handbook for Boys} two good Old Time books. A more modern one is from Mors Kochanski - Bushcraft outdoor skills and wilderness survival, excellent book. The term Bushcraft is new, but, back in the day we just called it like it was, fun in the woods. Richard I hope you drop by again, take care.

    instead of having thr first toggle on a prusik you can pass the ridge line through a hole inn the middle of the toggle just as on the other end. on the other end to prolong the life of your line replace the loop with a prusik loop

    That's a neat system. I use a variation on Derek Hansen's quick ridgeline setup, with a carabiner on the bowline end and the other end free. I have a separate 6" piece joining one of those loop alien things to a carabiner. You pass the static bowline end around the tree and clip the carabiner onto the line. Then you go to the working end, pass the working end around the tree, clip the loose carabiner + loop alien thing onto the line, and pull a bight through the loop alien. The tarp ends clip onto those same two carabiners while the ridgeline is still slack, then you tension everything in one go using the loop alien. You can get the tarp really really tight that way. Derek's setup is a bit simpler and just uses a prussik on the adjustable end instead of the loop alien, but I found it hard to get enough tension when my hands were cold or wet. The main disadvantage is you need a bit more cordage because the line has to double back to the tarp ends, but it's pretty insignificant unless your trees are really far apart.

      Thanks Luke! I'm going to search for his TH-cam video now and check it out. That does sound like a good solid setup. I knew I had one carabiner in my kit for a reason LOL Again thanks Luke, have yourself a good day.

    That's a slick set up Mr.Daniel! I need to set up a new Ridgeland setup so if its go time and happens to be at a raining time of year I don't want to prolong the agony lol! Great catch on that tree before it took someone out! Anywho thanks for sharing your knowledge with everyone bruv and hope you and yours weekend is blessed! Cheers, Kimmers and Jerbs 👍🏼🇨🇦🔥🔪🔥🇨🇦👍🏼

      Yes thanks my friend. That tree was tall, and what gave me the final info that I needed to cut it down was when I knocked on the trunk with the pommel of my knife. It had a loud hollow sound. yep had to come down. It sure was a good thing. Yes this type of Ridgeline is nice and quick to set up and take down. You don't want to be caught in the rain.

    Hi there! Great video! Very helpful. Can you please tell me what type of wood you made your toggles with and the drill bit size? I will be using standard paracord. I could find tree limbs to use but prefer some kind of hardwood toggle I can sand and varnish. Hope to hear what you say. Thanks again!!

    • @danielcharbonneau222
      @danielcharbonneau222  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. As for the wood, it was a old wooden dowel from an antique chair that I scrapped. As for the drill bite size I believe it was 3/16" . Once the hole is made try your paracord to see if it move freely. Thanks for your comment.

    and you can save the loops on the tarp. if you make the toggle prrusiks on the ridgeline a little longer you can pass a bite on them through the ey n the tarp and hold it with the toggle

    • @danielcharbonneau222
