    I have to say this video did a pretty good job of explaining how exactly to make as well as set up a quick deploy ridge line.

    Brilliant, best I've seen yet. Well done

    When I was a child, my uncle attached a stick to his ridgeline just like that. I've since used the bowline in the same manner. I have never has any issues with the toggle. It's always right there where you need it. No chasing it down. You can put this up in the dead of night or blindfolded. It's just that easy. You are the first one I've seen on TH-cam that has used it.

    I've been using the Corporal's Corner ridgeline for quite a while but I like the permanently fixed toggle idea so I will definitely adopt that. As for the trucker's hitch, I never pull all the remaining ridgeline through to tie it off. It's not necessary. As for the cold, great point, but I'm in Southeast Queensland, Australia and although it CAN drop below zero in places, I don't generally have an issue with the cold. Thanks for the great video. Very informative. 😃

    40 years of a bowline and toggle, and truckers hitch, has worked for me.

    Smart! Just broke and got myself a hammock and tarp after many years in a tent, just the video to start me off having quickly identified that a taut ridgeline is a key fundamental skill! 🍻 from the 🇬🇧

    Great twist on the corporals ridgeline, just undone my bowline and made the tag end longer to add the permant toggle thanks for the heads up

    Keep the toggle attached, 10-4! I dig it man.

    Good video mate… I like the idea of the fixed toggle and I’ll use that method from now on… As for your metal line tensioner, sorry but that takes away the skill of tying knots, which is why I’ll stick with Corporal Kelly. As a Firefighter in the UK, I love knottology. 👍🏼🇬🇧

      Cheers from across the pond. Sounds like you’ll tick to what you’re good at. Knots it is. I included the figure 9 because my son is special needs, and he’s not great with knottology. I made a video about it later called ADA Ridgeline, where he doesn’t have to tie ANY knots. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍🏼

    I have my toggle attached to a prusik but this is much better, it’s always in the right place, thanks for the idea, I’ll try it. I’m thinking about the figure 9 too, that’s a neat way to do it. I think I have something similar in my box of tarp stuff so will have a look. We don’t have much cold weather here, but I have shakey hands sometimes, so this will be easier to do than tying a hitch.

    Extended bowline is a good idea. Figure 9, for me, is another piece of gear to carry, and possibly lose. I tie a truckers hitch in about the same time as it takes for a figure 9 to be utilized. Also, as a Professional Rigger, I love Paracord, but check into 7/64” Dyneema. Splicing it is permanent, fairly easy, BUT SPECIFIC. MBS is 2,200 lbs, I think. It doesn’t absorb water like Paracord and has minimal stretch.

      Thanks for watching. I did work with dyneema on another project. Search my channel for “ADA Ridgeline.”

    I have various sizes of the Figure 9, but I don’t always have one with me…so this is only as good as if you have that. I have a faster way than what you have shown and I never have to tie a KNOT either!

    Having a small toggle attached to your line isn't a bad idea, but I'm guessing you could tie a trucker's hitch just as quickly as using that metal rope tightener.

  • @danilo6680
    @danilo6680 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You can just add a toggle in both ends and you are all set. Also, that 9 piece will trash your cord fast.

    I have a quick deployment ridge line but I use camber on one end I use a nite ize cam jam on the other end instead of a figure 9.

  • @VincentDoctorPrepperBoyle

      I'm a bit curious about the figure 9, but I imagine that it wears unnecessarily on the rope, with the jagged jaw and the hard natrial?

    • @VincentDoctorPrepperBoyle
      @VincentDoctorPrepperBoyle ปีที่แล้ว

      No noticeable wear on paracord, using same ridgeline for around 7 years with figure 9s ,all good in the wood

    If you are in an area that has trees to tie a ridge line to there has to be sticks. Its a rule.

    • @DavidPyro
      @DavidPyro  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but that rule doesn't guarantee you'll be able to find one thick enough, or strong enough. And when you're trying to set up your shelter, and getting dumped on by pouring rain, every second counts.
      And not everyone hangs their ridge line from trees. Some people string them between two vehicles, or rocks, or fence posts. And all of those methods, plus many more, don't necessarily include trees.
      Thanks for watching.

  • @TangoCowabunga
    @TangoCowabunga ปีที่แล้ว

    Does the length of the toggle matter?

    • @DavidPyro
      @DavidPyro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn’t go too much shorter than your thumb. Too short, and it may come out unintentionally. I wouldn’t go too much longer than a tent stake. Too long, and you sacrifice packability.

    • @peter-robinson
      @peter-robinson ปีที่แล้ว +2

      putting a small notch in the toggle helps keep it from falling out too. The paracord sits in the notch and stays in place
