I’ve seen them numerous times. But the first time was for Ladies and Gentleman We Are Floating in Space in a fairly small club. With those lights people were dropping all over the place. It’s one of two concerts I’ve seen where songs would end and I would remember I was in a club.

Great live track! Indie rock was what I was listening to in the nineties (with a good dose of Texas roadhouse country rock...I am from Austin after all). I still listen to those acts I saw live those many years ago...John Hiatt, James McMurtry, Indigo Girls, Black Crowes.

Lazer Guided Melodies was pretty special but have to say the other half of the Spacemen 3 particle decay from 1992, Spectrum's Soul Kiss (Glide Divine), was/is even better.

They’re an amazing band and Jason Pierce is a brilliant songwriter.
To me “Ladies and Gentlemen we are Floating in Space” is easily a top 5 album from the 90’s. Its followup “Let it Come Down” is probably even better and something of an overlooked masterpiece. Not sure I would call them Indie tough, I would even go as far as saying there’s a certain proggy element to them…
Keep it up Jim, great to see the evolution of your channel!

Thanks for giving the video a shot! I’m certain this won’t get many views but for those willing to venture in, it’s worth it! Indie as a genre is very broad and quite diverse…. Spiritualized got played on the radio and were on Jules Holland’s TV show, so get lumped in with Embrace, Death Cab For Cutie and Modest Mouse…. None of them sound alike but are all in that subset! Thanks for watching 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I didn't even know Spiritualized are considered indie. I just think of them as space/neo-psych rock with wild mild prog leanings. Anyhow, this video (within a video) is a great surprise!

@@JimNewstead Yeah, I think you're right. I can definitely see how they would fit into indie from what I know of it, but I don't know much which is why it's not immediately obvious to me.

Seems to me that Indie has been about the only thing worth listening to since the mid-70s. The charts seem to bear that out. My idea of indie stems from the exports from other countries, in different wrappings, from VDGG to Faust to Henry Cow to Elliott Carter to George Crumb to Chemical Brothers, Tame Impala, Paramore, Fitz & the Tantrums, The Arcs, Temples, MGMT, Portugal: The Man, Elbow, Of Monsters & Men, Syd Arthur, The National, Maximo Park, Richard Hawley, Robyn Hitchcock, Strumbellas, Arctic Monkeys, Jose Gonzales, Splashh, Lord Huron, Ray LaMontagne, White Denim, Boxed In, Doves, The Sundays, War On Drugs, Keane, Borns, Bright Eyes, Moth & Flame, Dum Dum Girls, Deerhoof, Halsey, Houndmouth, Sleater-Kenney, Yo La Tengo, Metric, The Rebel Light, Coves, Aborted Mozarts, Alex Clare, Bleached, Radiohead, Portishead, Animal Kingdom, Bastille, Jungle, Yukon Blonde, Concrete Blonde, Lemon Drops, La Luz, and/or Donnie Osmond. Not sure where most of them fit in the scheme of things, but each seem to have a certain uniquenessness that is rare among the concentric hordes.

I appreciate your enchantment with this music (it ain't bad) but I don't understand how repeating the same riff over & over, ad nauseum, can be considered brilliant. But thanks for the look into your musical roots Jim.

I don't actually know them myself, but Scot's about info on the bird app says:
"Scot Lade is the Prog Rock critic for The Fire Note and lead singer of the once great wedgepiece."
So, I figured I would mention them. I guess I should see if there is anything uploaded for them.
