"Hot fun in the Summertime" is still a great song after so many years. Audio is a bite rough though.

I love this song! It's such a happy, laid back groove that just swings along. And in my opinion, it's the drummer with the beat he lays down that drives the song and makes the whole thing work. And with Sly's sister Rose (or Rosie) singing the first line "I Cloud 9 when I want to!" What a cool lyric! It says so much...😁
In my opinion the live version here is a little disappointing for several reasons. Below I have included a link to a much better live video performance by Sly on a TV show, with that as the first of 3 songs that they do, and they segue from one to the next so it's non-stop. This is when they were on top of their game, and if you watch it, you'll see and hear what I'm talking about.
This band was revolutionary and far ahead of its time. Back then the music was very segregated as was society. Rock music was done by four skinny white guys, Black music was done by black guys who danced in vocal groups like the Temptations. There were single white female performers as opposed to black female Motown groups. Races really didn't mix and sexes didn't mix in contemporary music. And then along came a band that turned all of that in its head. 😄 Plus, it was a horn band and even that was new at the time --- horns in rock music?! Blasphemy!😉 Horns like that played in the Big Bands of the 40's, not in Rock-'n'-Roll for cryin' out loud. 😄
But here you had a black male playing keyboards and leading the band, a black female keyboard player, a white male sax player, a black female trumpet player, a white male drummer, and two black males on guitar and bass. It's hard to categorize their music even now because it had such a range you could say it was funk music or rock music.
This is a live performance and they are actually playing their instruments. It's impressive to me that they get such a tight sound balance and excellent vocal harmonies in a live performance like this on TV, because that didn't always happen.
One place where it looks as if it might be lip-syncing is when the line "County fair in the country sun" is sung the second time. I point this out because the camera was on Sly at that particular instant but that line was sung by the bass player Larry Graham who had a beautiful rich baritone voice.
There are so many cool aspects to this performance!! I love Rose Stone's spirit all the way through 😁; the way they all are able to dance while playing, especially on the last song; and the way the drummer cranks all the way through, ESPECIALLY on the last song!
You may be shocked when you hear the second song. Try playing that song in concert TODAY, or even listening to it in public. 😱 But that's a real song off their "Stand!" album. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing with that song -- pointing out the endless cycle of futility which comes with racial hatred and ultimately how idiotic and childish it is -- back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...gee, wonder where it's going next? Answer: Nowhere Good. THAT'S what the second song was about.
But the best part of this video is the third song -- "(I want to take you) Higher". Look how they get ROCKIN' even though they're in a TV studio! Man, that's a tight jam! "Boom buh buh Boom buh Boom Boom Boom!!"😄😃😆

Forgot his name, but we saw this band perform last year at the Long Beach Funk Festival and they are very good. The lead singer subs well for Sly and is very versatile and I believe there are three original members from the original band. See them if you get a chance. They won't disappoint.

Great song. Is the lead female singer the daughter of Sly and the trumpet player? I know the sax and trumpet players are from the original band. Great rendition of a classic tune.

"I was in the airport when they approached and they told me to get ... out of the way," Martini says. "Sly always, always stood up for me, and in many instances, he saved my butt. When I got hit a couple times ... he just stood there ready to fight."
I think a lot of Sly for that.
