As a kid in the 1960's, I got to see the Vulcan fly every year at the annual Glenview Naval Air Air Station show in Glenview, IL, USA. My family never missed it - the Vulcan was a beautiful thing on the ground, and especially in the air, its natural environment - so graceful, especially for its size. Now they're not flying, and Glenview NAS is gone, as are so many air shows. A sad thing.

Nothing even comes close to seeing her ,the ground literally shakes due to the sheer power. The most frightening yet most graceful old girl. She is sorely missed by everyone and the skies are a sader place without her. ❤

@@bagelking6364 Well, that made me do some rapid research! So, not exactly the same, but developed from…thus “The engine chosen was the twin spool Rolls-Royce Olympus 593, a version of this Olympus engine had originally been developed for the Vulcan bomber, and then developed into an afterburning supersonic engine for the BAC TSR-2 strike bomber and then in association with the French company Snecma Moteurs , this had been adapted for Concorde, with the final version fitted to the production aircraft known as the 593 mk610.” For Concorde’s supersonic flight, the air entering intakes had to be slowed down by clever venting, to 350mph, which is the cleverest and ultimate refinement of the Olympus engine.

I was at the Milendhall airshow in the mid eighties when I first experienced the Vulcan. I was inside a hanger looking at the static dispaly of the GAU 8 avenger cannon from the A10, when I heard what I first thought was an imminent crash of something big. I ran outsude to see a Vulcan almost inverted in a climbing banked turn above the airfield. The sound was the loudest thing I'd ever heard and seeing the Vulcan thrown around like a fighter jet just transfixed me to the spot for the entire demo.

There are a number of airframes extant still with their engines. eg XM602 & XH558
You have a couple in your country. If anyone could take it on it would be Kermit Weeks!
There have been the odd one come up for sale, but due to size and moving issues had to be scrapped on the spot. eg XL391 Blackpool airport.
Small in comparison to a B52, but it is 112 ' wingspan!

When I was in the Air Training Corps in the sixties I guess, we had a trip to RAF Finningly. As well as a flight in an Avro Anson we got to go inside the Vulcan! We stood in that cavernous bomb bay, and struggled to get into the pilot’s seat.
My brother and I used to go the Finningly air display and see the Vulcan scramble. The sound of that scream as it did a tight turn with the air brakes deployed!

A heavy bomber which handled like a heavy fighter. Absolutely wonderful sight & sound!
I was at an airshow years ago & the Vulcan was due to give a display. My cousin & his mum (my aunt, hard of hearing) were there & aunt was warned that although she was hard of hearing "You'll hear THIS".
Vulcan drifted in down the flight line & at the far end of the runway, stood on its tail on FULL power & climbed away. You didn't hear it, you FELT it! The pilot then went into the display, doing manoeuvres which shouldn't be possible in such a large aircraft. What an extraordinary example of British engineering.
On another YT channel (Dr Mark Felton) you'll find the story of "When Britain"nuked" America - TWICE". OK we didn't drop a nuke on our close friend but....well see it for yourself 🤭.

I got to visit Waddington in 1975, when my uncle was a WO2 stationed there. I had a guided tour of those parts of the base that I was allowed to see. My Australian security clearance didn't count, even though I was still a UK citizen. That was when the Vulcan was the UK's primary nuclear deterrent. As I recall, there were three at the end of each runway, armed and fuelled ready to deliver a massive retaliatory strike to the USSR.

When was the footage for this Shot please? I’m Australian born to British parents (my parents were from Sheffield but emigrated to Australia in 1964 and I was born in Victoria Australia in 1966), but I lived in Gainsborough UK from 1996-2004. I have always had a huge love for aviation growing up in Australia thanks to my dad who was an aircraft technician at Avalon Aircraft Factory (GAF Avalon) on outskirts of Geelong Victoria Australia where he worked on the Canberra bomber, F111, Mirage, and the F/A-18 Hornet before my dad and mum went back to the UK (Gainsborough) after his retirement. Myself and my wife (who is from Lincoln) often visit the Newark Air Museum whenever we venture back to the UK to see the mother in-law in North Hykeham. I’ve got pics of myself in 1997 sitting in the navigation bay of XM594 that is displayed at Newark. My wife is from Lincoln and she often regales many a story about watching various aircraft including the Vulcan howling overhead as a kid growing up in North Hykeham which is close to Waddington RAF base. Such a beautiful aircraft which along with the FA/18 Hornet has to be my all time favourites.

I saw the last Vulcan fly over. It was a Crime grounding it. It is impossible to know what the sound was like by watching through a screen, The Howl as it flew towards you and the thunderous Crackle as it climbed away, you literally felt it as much as you heard it.

The RAF toured the V Bombers to Australia and I was privileged to see them in Melbourne. I think I was 7years old so that would be 1966. Can anybody remember when the visited Australia? RAAF Laverton air show Melbourne. Thanks.

Watching and thinking 'Jeez they toss it around the sky',.. then think, 'hang on, they were looking after a pretty old airframe and making sure it wasn't overstressed'.
At which point one has to ask, just how tight could that thing really turn when new? I'm betting 'inside a Phantom' would be a fair assumtion.

An early stealth bomber. With that shape, there can't have been much in the way of radar returns, and visually, it would be difficult to see until it's almost upon you!

A bit dated, but still impressive.
I vividly remember that at one of the airshows I visited a Vulcan changed it's direction from a slow, low flyby into a vertical assent, right in front of the public.
