- D-Day is one of the most heroic and yet horrific war operations in human history. Many games has reffer to it in different ways. Let's compare their approach to that event across gaming history.
Medal of Honor Frontline, MoH Allied Assault, Call of Duty 2 and latest CoD WWII.

Personally, no game has come close to matching the scale of battles like CoD 2 did. The game still holds up 12 years later.

COD 3, actually. it did them even better.
AdayDr1en ghe only huge battle i can think of from cod 3 was at the start and even then the soldiers just disappear. In CoD 2 you have the Soviet charge to the Nazi building which you then blow up, you have to hold off a nazi attack against a railway station and against stalingrad city hall you have operation supercharge in the British campaign and you have Pointe Du Hoc and Hill 400 in the american campaign

Dunno why but the cod 2 landing scene hit me in the feels more than the others. Something about that shellshock noise is so eerie to me. And the way that guy carrying the injured soldier gets gunned down is pretty horrific. Fucking loved that game.

Well....I'm gonna go ahead and crown COD2 as the winner here, in over all presentation, with the runner-up being Frontline. The OG Infinity Ward (responsible for COD1/COD2/COD4/Modern Warfare 2) team were really some talented guys. As for COD WWII....although the graphics team did a good job....The sound team should probably be fired! They clearly don't know what they're doing. Also, the men look a bit overly confident, and not scared enough....Guys getting ready for their wedding day look more nervous than these guys, about to land on a NAZI machine-gun infested beach.
i totally agree with u but MOH allied assault and cod2 dud great jobs here too, just that codww2 did much btter on the presentation job ,but the sound was just computerised bad shit quality here. :( including some dday facts they got wrong like the guns and the dday level of the german fortifications,including the tank hedgehogs placements on the beach, which was stupid cuz no taks or vehicles came up on the beach including the hedgehogs being placed way close to each other.)
Actually I saw a photo that showed some tanks on either Utah Beach or Omaha Beach on D-Day.

That allied assault landing was just amazing back then, i remember replaying the D-day landing mission over and over as a kid because it made me feel like i was in saving private Ryan.

All of them had their strong points, and weak points. Imagine a way to combine them, and then you can get the big picture from a gaming perspective of the D-Day landings. But still Cod 2 and WW2 have a good place here!

Best Sound: Frontline. Best Graphics: CODWWII. Best Beach section Gameplay: Allied Assault. Best Bunker/Land section Gameplay: CODWWII. Best Dialog: COD 2. My personal favorite of these D Day stages is Frontline.
i wonder what if all these main character meet each other when they're attacking omaha and 1 of them said "hey! im from MOH Allied Assault. Which game are you from?"

MOH Frontline was the best. When it came out in 2002 it blew me away.

Chat Keeper was great for it's time and even though it was empty atleast it sounded like a bigger battle than cod ww2.

Its still a classic, Fatboy1303. The graphics hold up well, the level design, missions, the atmosphere was very authentic compared to most WW2 games, and the soundtrack was brilliant.
Makes no difference if the beach was a bit empty. Incredible experience. Probably the best WW2 game there is.
COD WWII lacks any real substance to its D-day mission. The audio is incredibly lacking, the beach is over with in a flash with no real suspense or dread that you'd naturally get from crossing a body filled beach with constant machine gun fire pouring down on you, it's just boring.
The other three games excelled at making you feel scared for your life. There were bullets constantly wizing by your head with so many close calls, the loud and overbearing, powerful audio of solders frantically screaming and explosions all around you. The look of terror on most solders faces and some even throwing up from all the dread and anxiety they're feeling. It's so well done in the previous games.
For me Medal of Honor Allied Assault DDay is a 999 deaths by explosions, machine guns and more explosions. Real hell.
i'd just like to point out that in moh frontline this is the first mission. to even get the tutorial you have to die. and die you shall i died plenty of times trying to take that bunker. getting to the barbed wire, a kinda safe spot, and then being told that i had to go back down the beach to get some explosives filled me with dread. i had worked so hard just to get this far. but i did then i had to cross a mine field that i had no way of knowing where the mines are and that my only way through was to run through and pray. i played this when i was very young but i still vividly remember all of that. what a game.
Cod WW2 really needed a sound buff if it had that it would have the best d day landing by far .It had visually but I wasnt hearing the shells from the atilery or the engine boats and the Lt Turner was just talking normaly not talking loud enough.In general games missions are very well made

Actually try playing the game your self with a good pair of head phones. The game is loud enough. I don't know why but videos make it look as the game isn't loud

WW2's D'Day was visually accurate, the sound is not unfortunately
Allied Assault is the best by far. If you haven't played, I highly recommend picking it up and getting the high-resolution fix working. The beach is the best designed of all the games on this list...it's HUGE and shrouded with fog and smoke and death.

This game's sound design is simply amazing too. You're constantly under fire, and it's loud and mind-wracking. The battle is incredible immersive, you genuinely fear for your life and are completely pulled into the experience. Yes, the texture quality isn't the best. The way the graphics are presented though, the pacing of the battle, and the sound design more than make up for that.
The rest of the game is unbelievably good too. Every mission is great, and the music is the best there is.
Frontline looks fantastic for a PS2 game.

PUTIN'S NEIGHBOR that’s alright, Activision has far more money to make a engine equally good as frost bite,they choose not to, you stick with your glitchy gameplay but fancy graphic engine and call of duty will stay with there far less glitchy gameplay but non fancy graphics engine

Guys theres a simple solution to solve the sound problem for cod WW2 turn it all the the way up btw when I played it wasn't as quiet as in this video
I gotta say the sound design in COD WW2 as a whole (not just the D-Day sequence) is pretty sub-par. I played the mission on my sound system at home and the sequence overall doesn't sound chaotic enough compared to the other interpretations of the event , even on higher volumes. Such a shame considering that Sledgehammer's first game had really good sound design.
COD2 Was the only one to get the Landing craft driver right. They were all British.

MoH frontlines did the beach right, call of duty WWII got the graphics right, Allied Assault did the landing right (mix it with WWII but you run out the front) if they just did all three together the D-Day in (COD) WWII wouldn't of been such a disappointment to me

The first Shooter game i got was COD 2 about 8 years ago when I was 10. I didn't have xbox live or anything, all i played was campaigns and offline games. Now I was pretty young but I can say without a doubt that the COD Pointe Du Hoc landing scene had a very big effect on me and how I would interpret life.

Notice that the stage in COD2 is Pointe du Hoc, where the size of the battle was quite small (100+ U.S. casualties) in comparison with the Omaha Beach (over 2000 U.S. casualties). Still, it was a big enough for one soldier.

Call of Duty 2 was an launch game for the xbox 360 and PC back in 2005. This is what I call an superb launch title, I was blown away with the graphics and sound. COD2 is still awesome 15 year's later.
I like to think that all of the cod ww2 games are the same time line instead of alternate times and they are all connected and each person that the player is has its own perspective

I felt 45% like an actual American soldier and that’s only because d-day is a horror no one but veterans could know what it was like.

I didn't know ww2 had stealth boats. Must have missed that part in history, and I guess Saving Private Ryan got that part wrong.
Anyone that says COD WW2 is too quiet needs to understand dynamic range. Those early games are very compressed which gives the sense of volume without having to turn up the volume. Once turned up those games sound very compressed. COD had a lot of dynamic range. meant to be turned up not compared against a game where the audio is smushed. Think black eyed peas vs. the Beatles. Play the two back to back and the Beatles will sound super quiet. Don't judge sound by volume. You have a knob for it. It's an unfair video comparison.

While I know it is not a first person shooter, I would have loved to see Company of Heroes here. They did a pretty good job about D Day as well.

Call of Duty 2 was the first to get it right with the fact that none of the landing crafts were driven by americans. They were pretty much all British.
I guess we can all gather don't be on the landing craft to the left of the one with a camera guy on board.

Does anyone know where to find ab emulator for Medal of Honor: Frontline or Rising Sun? I loved those games back in the day, but I don't have the budget or time to find a PS2/Original Xbox on disc copies, they aren't on Steam, and they aren't backwards compatible with the last two console generations.
