Excellent advice. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but the need to be aware of the consequences is a lifetime study which is well covered here. I just sent this to one of my students. Many thanks.

That bonus tip is fantastic! It reminds me of a similar suggestion from the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards.

Thanks Darlene, very helpful points. I've heard mention that you should crop before editing as cropping changes the histogram, do you have a preferred work flow?

Yes I would agree with that. Crop first.

What do you suggest for keeping straight lines symmetrical? Whenever I photograph signs or a building wall, there are lines that I cannot make straight by cropping. Sometimes there are multiple lines going at different angles.

Use the distortion correction tool for that. Is also in the crop tool

I wanted to know if the cropping on a Panasonic camera is the same method as on the Olympus cameras that give you certain sizes of rectangle frames to be placed for your cropped image. I don’t care for the Olympus method which isn’t flexible although I like their colours.

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. Can you explain? This is cropping done later using the computer.
