    You've probably already looked up the mystery tag but B.I.C.C. Ld were racing pigeon related! Maybe off a crate that was used to transport them.

    Chalmers Hospital in Edinburgh which still exists today was opened in 1864 following a bequest from George Chalmers (1773-1836) a prominent local plumber & lead merchant!

      @@thescottishdetectorist Easy way to remember - it goes way back because of convenience of division into integers.
      240 pence in a pound as 240 is has a lot of factors that divide without remainder: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 48, 60, 80, 120. They used that fact for the major coinage of a silver and gold metals standard.
      1 = penny
      2 = half groat/tuppence
      3 = threepence
      4 = groat
      6 = sixpence
      12 = shilling
      15 = dump (Australian colony 1813: middle of a New South Wales Holey Dollar)
      24 = florin
      30 = half crown
      48 = double florin (1887 to 1890)
      60 = crown
      120 = half sovereign
      240 = sovereign
      There were others struck including 5d, 10d and 30d as Irish bank tokens and some trial pieces like 8d as an octorino.

      The British half crown was a denomination of sterling coinage worth 1⁄8 of one pound, or two shillings and six pence (abbreviated "2/6", familiarly "two and six"), or 30 (old) pence.

    - I incorrectly edited my comment about the duct tape over the “Carrot” speaker.
    I meant to say that I did not like how loud mine is and found that the duct tape quieted it down to a much more tolerable level.
    (I noticed my mistake when you kindly responded and I felt quite bad because it made me feel like I came across as being a bit rude. Sorry, John.)
    Ps- Using duct tape vs. the other type makes a huge difference.
    Initially, I had tried the same thing, but found the piece of duct tape to work much better.
    Cheers, Dennis

      No rudeness was inferred or felt on my part so worry not! It was good feedback and I’ll get into my shed tomorrow to try and find some duct tape because it’s definitely too loud! I could go with vibrate only mode but I’m not a fan of it!

      Wales unfortunately for Wales is a principality or vassal state of England since Henry VIII in the 1500’s hence they don’t get a mention on the cost of arms. Ireland however and also Scotland were considered kingdoms so appear on the coat of arms, well until Ireland got its freedom in 1922

    I'm an old fart, I was 11 when we went decimal. Half a Crown was 2 shillings and sixpence, which equates nowadays to 12.5p, a Crown was 5/- (5 shillings), and there were 20 shillings in a pound, in practice we never saw Crowns in common circulation. One pound was 144 pennies (20 shillings x 12 pennies), a crown was a quarter of a pound, and a half crown an eighth of a pound.

      @@thescottishdetectorist My age is an advantage in this, the first ten years of school were pre-decimalisation and I felt most cheated when instead of having 240 pennies in my piggy bank for £1 I only had 100p. Also, I missed the half-crowns as gifts and got a severe reduction in spending power when given 1Op which was only a florin ( 2 shillings) instead :) And a 50P piece was no substitute for a ten bob note!

    42:22 That's probably an old lead top instead of a wheel. Likely to predate toy cars, but a kid's toy nonetheless. Could be enlightenment period thru to recent.

    So what do you do with all the little clumps of miscellaneous metals like aluminum, lead, copper or bronze, do you leave them as is or smelt them into ingots?

    I don't believe it was a wheel....Rather a top...spin between fingers and drop on a flat floor and watch it spin.

    sorry your maths are wrong old son a crown is a ¼ of a pound that makes half crown 2 shillings and sixpence or 30 penny,s and a florin or 2 shillings is 24 pence

    I think this is your Scottish Chalmers -
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chalmers_Hospital,_Edinburgh
    He was an Edinburgh lead merchant, 1773-1836. Now has a sexual health hospital named after him after leaving some money. Token could have been from him, or something from the hospital after his death.
