I watched this last night. Women that are easy on the eyes and have a non-threatening tone in their voice will always easily make it in a Man’s World. Most end up getting Married.
I knew a lot of lady truckers over the years. I learned on a 67 Mack and a 75 Brockway. I started in 77 at the ripe old age of 21. Drove for my neighbor. In a 75 352 Pete with a 1693 TA Cat and 13 over. In the truck stops guys would bust my balls.. " hey kid... your daddy know you got his big truck?" Those were good days
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Those 1693 Cats were GREAT! We had one in a 76 Marmon cabover & what a sweet truck! It was my brother’s truck & was my 1st semi to drive. I was 1p years old at the time. Thanks bro! What a blast to drive that thing. I miss that truck! The good days of trucking! Blessings my friend! 🥰🤩✌️
Great content Mike. Back in those days, Macks belonged in the dirt, not doing long hauls.😅 This girl gets it done. God bless you darling. I miss those days. I miss grabbing gears, and looking at white stripes👍
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Now this was quite a joy to see! Not too many lady truckers back in the day from what I remember. I knew several & most of them teamed with their hubby. She seemed to be quite friendly, care free & even determined. I wonder what she’s doing now, if she’s still alive. Running to California is never something I would do today. Thanks for sharing this one! Blessings my friend. 😎🥰✌️
Good video and that’s a cool young lady. Thanks for sharing it. Back in the late 80’s and 90’s those feather dusters were a fashion statement. Most trucks had them stuck at the end of the dash up against the windshield 😎
We rented a cruise liner several times ...one thing I remember was having to raise the cab up to lube the shift tower on those trucks. They were really stiff and hard to shift until I did my lube trick! Fun nice driving trucks tho!
First time I saw a lady driver was at Sheriffs truck in New Mexico. It was 1972 I was hauling doubles and she was a cowgirl hauling cattle. She was dressed as such and wearing her hat. Good lookin to. The memories.
From 2022 ""One Small Step partners Johanna Wilson (73) and Tammey Shimon (64) share a conversation about their families and their life stories. Tammey talks about her career as an educator and her children and grandchildren. Johanna talks about working as a long-haul truck driver, as a survival skills teacher, and working in a children’s home in Mexico.""
Nice video of a confident driver who is humble about her beginnings and enjoyed it. Wonder what she's doing these days? Happy Fourth of July to you and your family
Mike, I appreciate you videos and I've been a longtime subscriber and former Massachusetts resident. How come it's always:"girl truck drivers" and never" boy truck drivers?" I know you might see me as nothing but a "politically correct" subscriber but just wondering about the two tier syndrome with your heading of this video. Keep up the great content.
Thank you for your support! You might be over thinking this one. I get excited to find old trucking videos that most have never seen before like this one and I love to share them. The title is a play of words, if you watch the video, the song playing is the "The girl in the little pink Mack", hence I just tweaked my title to fit the song playing in the background.
@@TheBostonTruckerAfter 45 years coaching female athletes I get a little "amped" over the systemic discrimination in male dominated professions. One of the reason that Women are not taken seriously in male dominated professions is because each generation makes sure the glass ceiling is in place to keep women seen as an "oddity." If you had a daughter who wanted to be a truck driver, would you wish her to be seen as an "oddity" rather than as a "well trained professional;" who her Dad trained? Maybe it's the fact that you are secure enough in your masculinity to have your daughter seen as a "professional" rather than just "one of the guys." I know I would not want my daughter to be seen as "less than equal." I apologize if you think I over thought this issue. Be safe Mike.

You can never go wrong in a "Big Dog" Cruiseliner "cabin-over". "Hammer down", young lady...

Once you get a taste of that big road the regular old Monday through Friday job just don't cut it anymore. No adventure.
Its the diesel. It gets into your blood. And once you get infected. There's no turning back.

Wonder if she was driving a little window Pete.
This is a real trucking lady and I used to see them back in the hay-days of trucking. Notice she is dressed nicely and conservatively.

@@martymorse2 I think you will need to go back to 1978 and complain to the people back then.

No but they do look alike.
Drive three months and then bum around the world? Try working for 45 years straight and raise a family...
I wonder what Joanna is doing these days?
I recently found her on a podcast, I think she lives in Texas, she traveled the world like a gypsy.
