No pretenders here, you cant make that look so simple without huge talent. absolutely incredible, and they did all that just sitting down on the sofa like it was nothing. Brilliant and only true masters could carry that off.
I love watching Sammy Davis Jr and Anthony Newley singing this beautiful song together. Both can be very funny together and play off each other, BRILLIANT 👏.
I never saw this before I just found it tonight and I laughed and I laughed you could see the man who wrote the song and you can see the man who made it famous thank you both for such a beautiful song
Oh my “Lawd.” Three of my all-time FAVORITE entertainers - Ben Vereen, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Anthony Newley on one talk show set. BRILLIANT in The Arts 🎭 and humanitarians. Sammy Davis, Jr. was the GOAT - greatest all-around entertainer this country has produced.
We were lucky to have such wholesome entertainment back then. My mom once saw Sammy Davis Jr. Walking out of the Prospect Theater with his band. We used to laugh a lot watching these talented men. Anthony Newly , Dean Martin and the rest.
There will never be any others like this generation of triple threat entertainers. They could do it all & laugh and joke at the same time. Who else could perform a song written by Anthony Newley & Leslie Bricusse, then sung by Anthony Newley & Sammy imitating each other!! They were amazing, that whole group of post war entertainers. xxx
Could this actually *be* more delightful? - or more impressive... Two great vocalists, two great multi gifted entertainers in full bloom. An absolute joy!
Yes. Stars that could sing!!!! The look Ben Vereen had as he sat there in awe and in anticipation, just knowing something extraordinary was about to happen, thas how I am every time I play this clip.
This is utterly amazing! Anthony Newley immediately embodies all of the history of the English stage for me, or at least what I imagine it to be. Sammy is so underrated! He probably outranks Deano for second most talented Rat Pack member, in my opinion. Sinatra is first and Joey Bishop is in last place. (Peter Lawford beats Bishop by his eyebrows, that umbrella song with Judy, and being married to a Kennedy). Is this the Dinah Shore Show? Apparently, my late grandmother went to “Vandy” with Ms. Shore and had lots of fond memories of her.
I actually remember watching this. I would come home from school and watch the Dinah Shore show. Although Sammy and Anthony sounded great, I thought they were both drunk. Seriously, though, they really seemed to love each other. It was so nice to see them perform together.
Mia7189 They may have been drunk (it may not have been filmed in the afternoon - just shown then). But they had a very long history because Anthony wrote many of the songs Sammy made famous -- Candy Man, this one, Just Once in a Lifetime and Who Can I Turn To.
Dinah Shore (afternoon) Talk Show Daytime in the 1970s and all the guys are wearing suits/jackets. I was casual back then but now people dress so sloppily I actually miss the suits.
Anthony Newley wrote some more great songs (especially "Sweet Love Child") for his very misguided movie, "Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find Happiness?" The soundtrack album is on TH-cam, as is a very poor print of the movie itself.
Anthony Newley was such a great actor, and the music he composed with Leslie Bricusse was so brilliant. I don't think Anthony could sing, and when he does sing next to the brilliant singer, Sammy Davis Jr, good Lord, he skewered that beautiful song, and tried to make it camp and funny, but ya, no. Did not work. Poor Sammy Davis Jr. - he looked completely embarrassed for being a part of that horrible rendition of the song. Just awful, and in such a sad way. I dare say, Sammy never let that happen ever again. 👨🎤 👩🎤
Del cee, are you kidding, anthony newley was one of the greatest entertainers who ever lived.sammy davis had a marvelous time doing the song with newley.its called having spontaneous fun together.watch the video again and again.oh by thw way, sammy davis jr.was the greatest entertainer that ever lived.no one can come close to his talent.and thats a fact.from robert, the s.f.giant fan.
@@MarkL3365 ,yes I did.this was a memorable moment.sammy and Anthony improvised this rendition.the point is,they were having loads of fun singing together.just watching these 2 performers together was enjoyable enough.the song they sang was absolutely entertaining.i guess the audience agreed, they gave them a standing ovstion.
They adored each other. Anthony Newley remains underappreciated for writing some of the most wonderful ballards of the past half century.
YES SO RIGHT
I've loved him since I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1965.
Two musical maestros of the entertainment world sadly no longer with us R.I.P to them❤️❤️❤️

I agree
@@urringo Agree, such power, and very high note ending, while being casually setting on the couch.

I forgot those two sang together. Killer voices. They sound amazing.

LOVE it when Anthony and Sammy harmonize!
Omg that impression of Newley though!!! Spot on.
Just sitting on a sofa they can put together a performance like this, THAT is what makes them superstars
Lot of talent on that stage.
Amazing ❤❤❤
Genius. To sing so well while being amazingly funny.
Stupendous!
Two great performer's here , Sammy your voice gives me goose pimples.
they truly loved each other.
What a gem! Thank you!
Most wonderful talent!

This is talent, entertainment and a cast back to when we had stars and celebrities.

Pissed or not two of the best Male Vocalists ever.
BRAVO!
The 70s…….the good ole days.
These two should have done far more collaborations than what they did.
The good days are over. What have we got now no more great artists.
Folks- that's REAL entertainment.
Love that
Wonderful!
I loved this

Two of the greatest entertainers that ever lived.from robert, the s.f.giant fan
outstanding
So nice
2 Legends
Fabulous
LOVE ♥️♥️♥️♥️🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Is that Ben Verden on the left high as a kite?
For a few seconds Sammy's impersonation of Tony is uncanny.
Fantastic! Thank you so much for posting. It would be great to see more of this- did Sammy and Newley have an interview segment as well?
+calcecini Sorry, this is all I've got of the show.
Chills. All this talent is gone.
Dinah Shore (afternoon) Talk Show Daytime in the 1970s and all the guys are wearing suits/jackets. I was casual back then but now people dress so sloppily I actually miss the suits.

I recognize Ben Vereen. He was Sammy's understudy in "Golden Boy ". I don't know who the other two men are?
Second to the last guy is the comedian Tom Dreesen (he use to open for Frank Sinatra). Last guy, I think, is country music singer Larry Gatlin.
Davis' understudy in GOLDEN BOY was an actor named Lamont Washington.
@@Mia7189 actually I think that's singer Bobby Vinton - not Larry Gatlin although they look just alike
It's good to have big mouths that can sing....
Do you have more excerpts of this Show with Sammy or Newley by chance? Thank you so much for uploading 🙏
!!!!!!!
I recognize Ben Vereen, Dinah Shore, Anthony Newley and Sammy. But WHO are the two guys on the far left?
Tom Dreesen and Bobby Vinton
the others there look like comedian Tom Dreesen and singer Bobby Vinton and singer Ben Vereen
and the show credits say 1978 - not 1976
who else was on the sofa??

@@robertrothberg8678 I agree wholeheartedly
Actually, Davis was acting like an asshole to Newly, as far as I see. He dies little but try to hostage and make Anthony look, ironically, foolish.
