  • Shopping For A Farm In Rural Colombia
    #colombia#finca#ruralcolombia
    I started the search for land here in Colombia. Not certain yet whether I will purchase, but just wanted to show what a working finca looks like here in rural Colombia.
    The video is a bit rough as we were walking up and down hills the entire time, and I was sweating like crazy!
    Enjoy.

    We bought near Monteria. A hour from the coast. Its perfectly flat and square. You can see every inch of it from your house. I looked at over 50 properties all over Colombia most the land is hilly and not usable. So you have to buy twice the property

      Oh nice! Yea I am still looking.. i might head to look near san Augustine I think it's a bit flatter there too . But Yea here in Antioquia it's so mountainous.. which I love but difficult. Congrats on your property!!

      @@SaraBurdick I should add if anyone is looking for a farm that you need to see the property deep in the rainy season to see if it's under water. Or deep into the dry season to see if it's still green and can sustain cattle and animals. It's hit and miss in most cases. Where I am near Cenagad de Oro there's lots of good land but 30 minutes away in any direction it's not always the case especially as you get closer to Monteria or the coast.

    I would honestly suggest that you look for something way higher; I mean in the mountain high Colombia (Boyaca or Cundinamarca); where you will find a farm that does not look so tropical, but you would get ammenities, a much better weather, no mosquitoes, and I can assure you would get like a 2 centuries old adobe house with red shingles in there. It's obviously more expenssive, but definetly much more worthy to you, safer and I would say prettier.

    • @SaraBurdick
      @SaraBurdick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I have actually been looking in cundinamarca, boyacá and Santander area.. I think it is a better area to buy as well..and yes more $$ but worth it.

    Sara, did you purchase that (or another finca) and if so, where? I'm trying to find a finca for sale with at least 200 hectares, but not having much success finding a broker or website that lists such property. I'd like to be in the general area from Pereira or Risaralda. I'd appreciate any suggestions or recommendations. Thanks.

      no i didnt end up buying that one.. it was a bit too remote for me. there is not much online, i recommend local facebook groups.. and the best way is to visit the town you want to live in and ask around.. its a very word of mouth country!

    So pretty! Where is it? Can you get financials for the coffee and plantain side of the finca? We visited a not too small farm near Armenia owned by an expat. He said even with record high coffee prices this year, he has negative cash flow.

      The coffee growers always have negative cash flow, they are one of the most nefarious guilds in the country, without the authorization of the Colombian Federation of Coffee Growers you cannot move a single sack for distribution, they are good at exposing losses but always keep their profits hidden, when there is a crisis...which is almost always when they protest and form a union to ask for subsidies, they are a bottomless barrel.

      Rural Colombia is more than dangerous, if you want to live here stick to gated communities with 24 hour security. As for the cost, it might be your life.
